Chun-L: she's the first lady of fighting games, c'mon. She looks cool and she hits hard.
Vice really neat design and gameplay; she'll casually tosses you into the air with one arm and slam you into the ground while laughing maniacally, that's cool as heck. And also her arm does this crazy stretch thing! And sometimes she eats people?!
B.B. Hood "homicidal Little Red Riding Hood" could've very easily been executed poorly; a half-baked, one-joke twisted fairy tale concept that was just tossed off (a comparison as to how this could've turned out poorly would be literally any of the fairy tale parodies in Shrek, I guess). But Capcom pulled it off, and they pulled it off beautifully. And goddamn her animations are simply gorgeous.
Blue Mary she just goes to town on people and fucks their shit up, snapping bones like nobody's business. She's so cool! I just wish she'd wear her jacket more often, she looks better in it!
Karin manages to put a fun spin on the spoiled rich kid archetype. Also really fun gameplay and owns A SPACE LASER

honorable mentions go to King, Leona, Tessa, Hibiki, and Sakura. They didn't make it because I don't particularly enjoy playing as the first three (but think they're really cool characters) and the latter two I enjoy playing as but I don't like 'em as much as the top 5.

I haven't seen too much fanart of Janne but I remember a japanese fanart website where Janne was drawn bald in almost all of her pictures.

I can't read japanese perfectly but I could understand that they drew her bald because seeing Janne without hair was a very shocking/funny moment of their childhoods. She even was jokingly nicknamed as "ハゲ女" that means "bald woman".

So, my top 5 are;

Chun Li: The First playable female character in a standar 1v1 fighting game (to stop complais about the girls of YieAirKungFu and other stuff) and the greatest one. Ever.

Rainbow Mika: Obviously. It's kinda sad the grappler bunny fan of the red cyclone appear only in 1 game as a playable character (and as a guest in another japan-only game for PS) But with many ports of SFA3 around that's not an excuse to not enjoy to play with she :)

Cammy: Dat ass, cat lover, leotard and great moves. :3

Kasumi: Beyond the fanservice is a very intrincated character. Also, is pretty cool to play with. From DOA1 is one of my fav chars to play, also with;

Tina Armstrong: Sexy, cocky and strong, this dreamseeker is the american dream under the japanese's view.

_mature: good balance of rushdown and zoning
_alisa bosconovitch: flashy as fuck solid moveset and her combos own
_janis luciani: yet another extra stance moveset, quirky movement and normals come with that. again great combos
_leona: pokes, mobility and traps
