Greetings

http://alum.mit.edu/www/emie

In the games section of my website you will find three games I created using MUGEN.  These all started as animation projects for art school, and they sorta took off from there:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RyF_0meaBCc&fmt=18

"teaparty" - a fighting game made up of my characters from the animated music videos I've made

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07Ml13OCJ4s&fmt=18

"mother" - 2 characters, 2 buttons...punch and kick.  Lots of pro wrestling references and Bruce Lee references...
Has the fewest characters, but the best, most intricate animation of the 3 games.

"KOTM" - The oldest of the 3 games, but served as the building block for the others.  2 buttons...attack and counter.  Gained some inspiration from classic beat 'em ups like Final Fight, SOR, and even Double Dragon.

Feel free to try them out at http://alum.mit.edu/www/emie
They're works in progress, and I hope to update/fix as time permits in the future.

Let me know how it goes...

  • does this look like the face of mercy?
Tested mother, your style is interesting and you did quite a few things very interesting with the throws, I will be sure to check on the others later on.
At any rate, congratulations for the release!

Thanks and thanks!

I hope people enjoy it...I know they aren't edits of the usual classic characters from the fighting games we all know and love.
But, who knows they might grow on ya given time...

I tried to vary the fighting styles, so that each character feels different.  I also tried to keep the characters balanced, but I think Ayane Shiun (chubby girl in a towel) from Teaparty is dangerously close to being broken with her Leaf super move...I'll work on her.

Come to think of it, she's pretty good in KOTM, too...Mina Kim might be better, though...

The most unique character is Ninja Gal Mai from both KOTM and Teaparty.  Interestingly (and sorta unintentionally), she shares a lot of comparisons to her namesake, Mai Shiranui:
-My Mai and Shiranui Mai are both kunoichi
-both use fire to fight (sorta)
-both seem to have endless supplies of weaponry hidden in "interesting" places
-both rank on the extreme ends of the "endowment" scale (Shiranui is on the high end...my Mai is on the looooow end and proud of it!).

In KOTM, Mai can throw or drop bombs like Faust from GG, and she can actually set up chain reactions using multiple bombs.  In Teaparty, she can perfom bomb assisted izuna drops and headbutts.

Anyways, let me know what you think...

And, Enjoy!

The characters look similar to something you see on "Kewlopolis".
My Mugen Wish List would include protagonists, mascots and other iconic characters with everything they have brought straight from their source with little or no editing.

1 good game out of 3 and all are homemade fighting games. Thats pretty good numbers.

First I tried out Teaparty. Controls and the music are not that good, and audio for male character has female voice. Sprites were good and the stage designs are pretty good.

Second I tried Mother, and I'll be honest I don't get it. seemed to have suffered from bad controls and bad choices in music for stages.

Third game KOTM however was very good. Controls work much better and the characters are much more balenced. Some funny monments like the "Wimp" and the crotch wack are great. Music was a bit better here.

Basic suggestions, The music needs more of a beat and less jamacan sounding stuff. I'd say get your other characters updated and put in KOTM, and then add endings to each.
Fun game.

Well, you can put characters from other mugen games in (or vise versa), and they'll "work"...but some of the throw animations or special hit stuns might not work properly on characters who weren't designed with those animations.  For example, KFM generally works pretty well...but when he gets thrown by my character with a special throw, his sprite might disappear now and then.

On the other hand, KFM's moves all work fine on my characters, because he doesn't have any throws with special animations.

Try it...see what happens...

Some characters would probably work better than others (i.e. characters who don't have a lot of special throws or stuns).

Actually, there are no male characters in Teaparty.  But, that's good that you thought there were, because I was trying to create a diverse looking cast...some characters were meant to be less stereotypically "feminine" than others.  Tall, short, skinny, chubby, cute, scary, bouncy, unbouncy...and of different ethnicities and colors...we usually don't see such variety in fighting game females, so I figured I'd do my part!

Hmm...bad controls?  Any specifics?  It's definitely the most complicated of the three, relying on QCF, QCB, and DP motions more than Tea or KOTM.  I personally, don't have trouble doing the moves...but, I made the thing.  So, let me know...

Thanks for the feedback...I appreciate it, positive or negative!  I welcome more.

Maybe I'll make combo videos or something to show the game in action...
I do have a Teaparty trailer, though...made it for school...

I think the girl I thought was a guy was named :Ninja Gal Mai.

Ok on second long atempt I got a the controls down for mother after reading what you said. Still its only 2 characters which makes it a short game.

Anyways best of luck on updating.

Strawberry Shortcake?  Care Bears?  Liberty Kids?  I'll take that as a compliment!

Well, all I saw on "Kewlopolis" during my previous post in this thread was Dino Squad and my favorite, Sushi Pack.  Those two are what I was thinking of.  Then later before you posted, I saw some short clips of the two American Greetings cartoon shows, but I didn't know Liberty Kids moved away from PBS or some other program to "Kewlopolis" on CBS.
My Mugen Wish List would include protagonists, mascots and other iconic characters with everything they have brought straight from their source with little or no editing.
