Allo all!? I thought I'd start a section to find out which characters truly shine in the Mugen world. List characters that you find absolutely flawless in design and are completely balanced. (And when I say "flawless in design" I mean, having characters that actually follow through with a concept, not necessarily their original concept, but at least a solid one. Some characters I have played will have a set of moves that fit the character from their series, then randomly possess a set of moves along with them that make ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE. Honestly though, that is the point of mugen... to make characters however we see fit, but that is not the point of this discussion.)And by balanced I mean; *The characters should have correctly aligned hit boxes. The tighter these boxes are around the sprites, the more fair a character becomes. Simply put, your character gets no bonus range to attacks in any direction. *The character statistics should be reasonable as in Health shouldn't be like 10,000 without reason, all skills and normal attacks have appropriately set damage (personally I believe that the more risk there is in using a move, the more damage or more effect it should have... jabs shouldn't take 1/3 of your health)Movement should be reasonable (a few characters have insane traveling ability without much penalty) For example, a SF3 Yang has a balanced traveling ability dubbed Kaihou. The one where he fades and appears to dash at lightning fast speeds at a set distance in the direction he is facing. The balance is that he has a small "lag", if you will, before he can recover and take a new action. Thus, you are required to carefully plan when to use it. Characters that contradict this rule have an insane advantage against everything they fight.*If the character can chain a string of combos together it shouldn't be able to kill you (I personally loved MvC2 but couldn't stand the whole "I jab... ok now you are in my infinite hit combo till I mess up garbage... and that's game! YAY! fun time... Fighting games are about exchanging various strikes and blows with each other while defending yourself from opposing attacks all at the same time. If one cannot retaliate through clever angles or positioning, IT IS NOT A FIGHTING GAME. It is a memory game where the person whom practices their chain the best wins). *The last thing I will throw in is not essential, but does tend to show if a creator knows fighting games and believes in good sport. I like characters that have strikes that are so pinpoint accurate that if they attack high with a roundhouse for example, if the foe ducks, it will pass over their heads and other elements such as that. Adding small elements like that can really bring out flavor and depth in a fighting game, because it will delve into deeper fighting scenarios where the players can slip and dodge rather than doing the roll or side step that I see a lot of characters use. Most of the street fighter 3 characters, when combining their middle punch and kick, can perform a short hop attack specifically designed to counter sweep attempts or really low attacks. Stuff like that, like I said earlier, fleshes their design out. *Defense should be just as important as your attacks (but maybe that's just my opinion ). Parries and counters are great features to any fighter, but can become exceptionally cheap when they have few conditions to meet when used. There are COUNTLESS characters in mugen. We are here to judge the best! I await your input!
All *good* KoF characters.Spoiler, click to toggle visibiltya big "fuck you" to the first guy who posts "KFM" because that's a really boring character that came with MUGEN and is meant to be more like a tutorial

"Almost all" being 1/3rd of them. Seriously the old ones are really messy, but thanks anyway. At topic starter: you should've used more line breaks there.
Dragon Claw! He was pretty I like pretty things. And yeh, more line breaks. I only read the first line and thought ... I'll post. There's really too much creations around to list but I'll perk up with more the moment I can think of any.
Best favorite character thread ever. No, really. But I can't say much for the most balanced of *mugen* characters. Some of these "balanced" characters are just game accurate.
When I was first reading the first post I was thinking that those were some kinda low standards to measure characters to, since probably all the characters worth getting respect them, but then you get to the part about the details like the crafted Clsn and yeah, then it's harder to pick characters that do it (except those from games where people can just get them from debugs).
AH! sorry ya'll . My first day posting here. I'll space my long topics out more. Shoot, P.O.T.S is one of my favorite creators, and I remember when he first started coming around. I'll definitely say more than 1/3 of your characters on your behalf; Guy, Cammy, Morrigan, Nakoruru, Nash (Charlie), Sakura, Ryu, Dan (OMG I love your Dan. He is priceless), and even Geese (whom I claim to be balanced, however his AI is BRUTAL), are TOP NOTCH characters that fit my description to the last word. Phantom, keep it up sir, you are an inspiration for many creators and I hope you have many creations to come.
Hmm, to me, there is no such thing as a perfect character, because perfection means accuracy in the MUGEN world (You dumbass! His hard punch should push pack 11.2349871962361623181 pixels, not just 11!), and accuracy most definitely doesn't mean perfect.
My answers will probably sound very generic, but I enjoy several different character aspects.I like to see characters that are somewhat true to source. I don't expect perfection, but I like it when someone codes it to feel like the original.I also like to see unexpected characters, be they obscure, or original. It's a breath of fresh air to see something that's not a shoto.I also like a good joke.So if someone can actually pull off an acceptable joke character, they get my support.

We are merely accumulating a vast amount of research into one discussion on whom so far has created phenomenal characters within a set amount of guidelines. ANYONE can make or take a character and break it. Here, we are taking the standards of what they should be (or mostly what I think defines a complete and fair character) and comparing what most characters are and how close they come to our guidelines.Rock on my masters of sprites, my lords of mugen!

I would love to know of the creators that created solid mirror versions of their console counter-parts.

I SO agree with you there. I am growing ever so tired of how many Ryus, Kens, Goukis, and Ryos have been made. But I suppose that is because they are the most well known within their series, and for beginners, probably the easiest form of character to tackle in creation.
Kenji by Cray (a.k.a. Sabaki) is one I'm throwing out there. You can weave through half of the attacks he possesses. Even though his gun can be pointed in practically any angle you'd need to hit your opponent, it lags at the beginning and end of the move providing ample time, if you are prepared for it, to avoid and counter attack. The moves are all solid and creative (They have MvC elements to it though he isn't from that game) and provide an extreme amount of angles to attack from which makes you fight more with your intelligence and preparation rather than trying to smother your opponent with attacks. I love that! I like knowing that my opponent will try and counter attack at the end of some of my combos when they die off, and it has me thinking how I will counter his counter attack! MIND GAMES FTW! I recommend this guy to any ninja lovers! He needs a bit of cleaning up on some hit boxes and some cleaning up on special moves, but other than that, I rank this character very high up on the chart of an ideal character creation that is both dynamic and balanced.
Oh my freaking god you triple posted. Now you have really fucked us all. Val said that if anyone ever triple posted again that he would turn off the guild forever. Thanks a lot man as soon as he logs on and sees this we are all going to have to go to RS. Can't believe you would do something so selfish.
