Next-gen Mugen?

Of course we now know about EF-12. As of now, EF-12's biggest limitation is that the program is very geared towards 3D fighters, so trying to replicate a full 2D fighter environment is rather unlikely. This engine (called Universal Fighting Engine) is made for 2D fighting game nuances, so attempting to replicate the likes of Street Fighter 4, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and Mortal Kombat 9 is possible (and more likely) in this engine. They also plan to add 3D fighter functions in the future.

However, unlike EF-12 it's not free; in fact, the starter program is $69. So it's not just some thing you can jump into. Beta release is planned to be less than 2 weeks.

Here's a playlist:
Demo 1
Demo 2
Demo 3
Combo
Parrying

$69... that's a lot for an unproven engine. :-\

Finally, the dream of Marvel v.s. Capcom with JUST the right amount of Street Fighter can be achieved.

A bit expensive, but still, pretty cool.

God that knockdown looks wonky.
$69? Wouldn't it be better to make something from scratch (for free, nonetheless) in order to learn how to avoid the things this engine does wrong? :U

  • Kiss me, I'm famous!!
So...

...if we PAY for the engine MEANS that we can make our own games AND selling them?

(using our ORIGINAL characters, not those from capcom, snk, etc)

Spend 70 bucks on an engine, 2 months later find out it's a piece of shit. Rather wait for some reviews.

You could say that about every single videogame engine... or rather engine or program for anything.
pls

Finally got some clarification. The Unity engine is free; Universal Fighting Engine isn't (I know a few other things, but it's only speculation and isn't definitive). Considering the rather unfriendly price point, it's definitely a wait and see.

Yeah; in fact they're encouraging it... EF-12 is doing the same.

Let me remind folks that there is currently no mechanism in Unity3d to enforce stable game update speeds...

all of us, just contact him and say "it is too expensive, since  engine is not worth getting if you dont get the open source version anyways if your going to sell your game. The other versions are limited.

Nevertheless, Finally a toolkit for unity3d so we can sell games on ps4 and xboxone!

Smart move.

But maybe make it 20-40 copies because the guys here will work better than a 2k Ad campaign for you if they like the engine and start making awesome stuff with it.

Well instead of offering random numbers of free copies, I'd rather do a "work-for-work" kinda deal =)
I need more models and animations. You guys need a tool to play with.
To make this tool more popular I need better looking assets. So if you guys want to, provide me with some demos of your work or anything you can potentially do and if you are ok with me using your creation as part of UFE (or at least show off in a video), I can give you a copy for free.

Now of course, I can't just handle the tool to just about anyone. U gotta show me what you got!

I know words don't mean much, but I'm making nice progress on a model now... I'm pretty much doing refinements. I have to work soon, so I'll PM a image later.

Hopefully the engine is easily compatible to models made in Blender.
