Also, just to be clear, and yes I realize no one was really asking, but SHADEs 2 is not cancelled.
laxxe tends to overreact to these things so i didnt really take his word for it ;D but it's still great to know you're not cancelling it
yes i tend to overreact as i did, but i never expected illu to post my overreaction

Because I won't play the "bad guy" role.

I wonder how many of the guys complaining for the molebox incident and emailing the autors actually paid for it.

Bingo!

Ahahahaha, great! Good job man! ;D

To everyone whining about "onoes you're a dick for posting it why not leave it obscure", it's the same logic as making security vulnerabilities public sometimes even with proof of concept code. Baw more.

this poster thinks it's idiotic to pack a mugen game in the first place, but hey opinions.

now make a tutorial about a safer alternative than moleboxing
Go crawl back under your hole.  Seriously, Mugen was made with open formats that weren't compiled down for a reason.  You don't want your stuff getting out, just don't release it--protected or unprotected.  Or make your own version of XNAMugen (since it's open source (or so I thought)) that only reads encrypted files that removes all the readable stuff in your code or sff.

Valodim, why is it "idiotic" to pack a Mugen game? I think it makes a full game feel more complete and less like Mugen, plus it ideally would keep full-game characters who appear broken when used in any other Mugen from being distributed.

Messatsu, what's with the "crawl back under your hole" comment? Wasn't that a little harsh? I think if OP is going to claim his intentions were to reveal security flaws in the Molebox program, than why not post an alternative? No need to be such a jerk about it.
Son, the last thing you'll realize you need is what you've already got.

Don't get me wrong buddy, but if the chars will work just with your screepack, its useless to pack it, they won't be able to use it. you can use moleox for just gather everything toghter, for sure. Take as an example my PDC project: the chars just works with the screenpacks (and even the stages will be valid with the screenpack and the char toghter), so there is no worry about protecting it.

Its ILU :)

I wasn't a jerk, I was showing a weak point of something. Every people that works searching weak points on a software are paid to DISCOVER the errors, not to fix them. Them, another team comes and fix it. And the game starts over.

Like someone said, that method doesn't works on the most recent version AFAIK. But its just a matter of to connect the points to get the same result.

And even more: Molebox interecepts the comunication to the processor...but stores a lot of info in *somewhere* (I won't talk so no more drama). Its just to watch that *place* and you will see ....that there IS a spoon :)

And please, just is already over.

I honestly dont think you even thought about being the "hero that shows people the dangers of molebox" for split second, and you apparently werent thinking about the harm it would cause either, you just simple saw it as another tool.  Correct?

no, I was thiking in that. Not the Hero stuff, but I would like to contribute to the community showing that Moleox isn't secure.

No harm was intended. As I told: people can make a good use, or a bad use,as for anything. Its up to them.

you don't need to jump at my neck because that.

since you got a new comp recently, that means that you were using a hacked version.

Do you not see the irony in this?

Thanks for posting this , "el ilusionista", ha. I always suspected there were ways to crack open moleboxed things, but never really cared enough as to actually get informed. Molebox, however, is still useful at some degree, since at least guarantees you that whoever wants to unlock "whatever thing you've compressed" will have to take  some time to do it ;D

Anyway, since I don't give a fuck about code and stuff, is any alternative way to compress a game that makes you unable to get the sprites easily (animget is not a worry)?

OP => original poster. :innocent:

Crawling under the hole refers to the only safe way to do Mugen if you don't want things to get out.  The only thing you can ever really protect is the source code (which is easily reproducible anyhow).  What you really want to protect in many cases is the sprite work or sounds... There is no way to protect those and the whole moleboxing business is a waste.

This is "the" way to do it. Maybe molebox has been updated, i don't know. This is how it's done. You can't do it another way so i suggest you keep trying.

I'm surprised there's anyone still bothering with molebox.
