I'm confused, first you say it doesn't fit but it woks then you say it doesn't work.
If it doesn't fit crop the pic or scale it down. If it doesn't work at all i dunno, did you index it?

Steps:
Replace/copy paste the layer/pic (Ctrl+L) where the portrait is with your pic
Merge the layers (right click any layer>Merge Visible Layers)
Index the whole thing (Image>Mode>Indexed) and export it to png or pcx then add it to the sff.
Now if you can't add the pic to the psd just drag and drop your pic.png (or whatever extension it has) to the template and remove the other portrait (if there's any).
i don't have that template and i can't have it right now because of my already reached limit internet

ok this is his read me file:

1.Character select small portraits should be 39x94
   a. when placing small portrait in FF, make sure it is 1 on the x axis and -2 on the y axis

2. 2 pictures are used in the big portraits, 1 for the select and VS screen, and the second for the win screen
a.the big portrait by itself is 530x198
b.the big portrait and the win portrait need to be around 524 pixels apart

3.CHECK THE TEMPLATES I PROVIDED in the TEMPLATES FOLDER
a.Or check KFM as an example of big and small portaits as well

4.Character portraits for lifebars have been changed to sprite 9000,19 as the new portraits dont fit.

5.The win quote is still messed up a little, i cant figure out whats wrong so i just gave up........

now the part i dont get in is on part 2,where it says the win portrait need to be around 524 pixels apart

Me neither :P. Maybe it's the minimum pixel requirement or need to have a difference (in size or the x and y axis i guess) of around 524 pixels between the big and win portraits. Anyway you should try and test this so you can see the mistakes and correct them.

If I'm right. The fonts that come with the screen pack don't have punctuation. You can either A) edit them yourself and add punctuation or B) get other fonts.

From what I remember all of the fonts on the screen pack don't ave punctuation. As for which ones to put on you would have to look around or take fonts from other screen packs.
