I was checking out a bunch of things online and ran across a program called "blow up" from adobe's website.... it claimed to be able to take wallet size pictures capable of being blown up to literally poster size with no NOTICEABLE difference....(they show a small pic, blown up to billboard size on the site but I dont know if I'd believe THAT lol...anyways heres an example of a stage someone made (I edited the sky though)
so I decided to test it out ...(you can download a full trial thats good for 30 days).

I tested this on a 63 pixel pic of reptiles face.... was very impressed, but I figured it would be best to show an actual stage instead though...in a bit I will also take a small character or maybe a KOF character, and see if I can blow it up to art of fighting size, and see if it looks a lot better, and post the pic :)

hopefully enough people will find this helpfull to start using this to make stuff so that everything comes out a lot clearer, and makes the mugen community better as a whole.

original sized pic----------------------(666x343 size)

my resized pic-------------------------(pic shown as 1024x527, but was cropped so the actual resolution was 1491x768...also keep in mind to post the pic this big, the small pic jpg quality is 12...but the big one was at 6 to fit it so.... the quality looks way better)

.....what a bunch of crap -_- .....the forum resizes the bigger pic so heres a direct link to the image full sized...but on the bright side if you looks at the resized pic that got shrunk....it looks identical to the pic above  and the pic is over twice its size :)

original pic ...yes this is how small the original one was that I made the other 2 from lol...im still amazed LOL

enlarged using photoshop without the blow up plugin------

enlarged WITH the blow up plugin-----

keep in mind you can make these look WAY better...the program has sliders that let you adjust sharpness, and about 6 more things..I just used the default setting so Im sure this could look WAY better if I wanted.

well.....I dont know exactly what the shortcomings are of each format, but to be fair, I should probably mention they are all JPG format, but the small pic was originally PCX (taken from a iori mugen character), and I didnt see any difference in quality between the 2 small pics..

Im assuming you meant standing sprite?.......I can do that. Give me a few minutes, its just hard to find a standing sprite thats really small....since I cant post HUGE pics on this site I have to find a tiny pic as a reference otherwise its lame to only enlarge it by say 100 pixels lol...well...although...hmm...I have an idea...I'll take a pic of Ryo from KOF XI (the mugen character) ...and I will up his sprites to art of fighters size (since we all know enlarging them in mugen only super pixelates them) ...and photoshop by itself isnt much better lol. Give me a few minutes to pull a sprite from the character.

here they are

original---

enlarged without plugin--

enlarged using plugin, somehow the nose got messed up)

spent a minute and touched up the nose)

it might not be comletely without flaws, but the flaws are very easy to fix

I think it's safe to assume using this for effects + objects = yes and using this for flesh = no as far as sprites are concerned.  At least, for now.

Too bad the plugin only relies on Photoshop filters (so you can achieve the same effect without the plugin, but you have to use Photoshop and nothing else).

I don't think is really effective for resizing sprites though, as it seems to be meant for high quality images. I mean, they turn out great, but there are some issues when bringing them into MUGEN. I was using it to see if I could resize a SNES sprite to be the size of the standard fighting characters, and it isn't working out too well. I'm gonna keep trying, and see if I can get some better results. Maybe it'll work out, we'll see.

EDIT: The main problem is that once you resize an image, I've often found you need to do a lot of cleaning on the outside edges of it, otherwise you'll have issues with color 0, and other things. Besides that though, this seems to be a pretty good for sprites. I'm currently working on X-Men Mutant Apocalypse Wolverine, and it's a hassle, but he'll look great once it's done.

I used to have that problem when i remade stuff all the time... blackjack told me how to fix that, and so far I went from taking 30 mins cleaning up and making all the blotches look good, to about 5 minutes :) ...heres what he said....(sorry I didnt reply sooner, I just replaced my main hard drive with a 320GB HDD, and wonderfull HP didnt give me any XP disks -_-....had to get everything set up and find a way to MAKE a boot disk lol ...but all is good now :) ...got my original internal of 80 GB...my external of 160GB...and now my 320GB main HDD :) ....now I can have LOTS of pictures and projects to mess with!

    * Pay attention that the background color should be located at index 0 in the palette for it to be transparent under Mugen.
    * Here's a quick method if you want to change a color from a slot to another, in the palette, without screwing the pic :

0. Load your sprite in your paint program.
1. Note down the color that should be the one with index 0.
2. Note down the color that is currently in Index 0.
3. Edit color in slot 0: give it the colors of the other slot.
4. And vice versa.
5. Save the palette but NOT the picture.
6. Close the picture. Do NOT save.
7. Open the picture.
8. Load the new palette on the picture using "match nearest color".
9. Save the picture.

It isn't working when you insert it in the characters for one reason: the palette of the pic isn't the same as the palette of the character.

There are several ways to make it display correctly; here's one:

1. Open the sprite you want to insert in the SFF (once it's been saved to 256 colors and with magenta in slot 0) -- we'll call this sprite "NEWsprite".
2. Open a sprite from the character; we'll call this sprite "CHARACTERsprite".
3. Save the palette for "NEWsprite".
4. Save the palette for "CHARACTERsprite".
5. Edit the palette of "NEWsprite" to put the colors of "CHARACTERsprite".
6. Load this new palette on "NEWsprite" using "maintain indexes".
7. Load the palette of "CHARACTERsprite" on "NEWsprite" using "match neareast colors".
8. Done: you have your "NEWsprite" using the correct palette and the same as "CHARACTERsprite". Put it in the SFF, and pray for it to work. Wink

Wow, I'm glad I stumbled in here  :D
Even if this doesn't work out flawless in Mugen, I'm sure it's a worthwhile plugin to have for future stuff, especially as I work a lot on graphics.

Something I think I will use this for (a little trick I learnt when animating):
When you want a simple precise animation for say... an arm or leg to swing out... resize the pic to 400%, then use the selection tools to rotate the part you want to look different (such as when doing walking animation) then resize back to 25% and save as your next frame. It usually requires a little cleaning, but with this plug-in I'm going to see if it's easier  :)

Thanks for the links  ;)
There is no such thing as random. Everything can be pre-determined. So what I will do, I have essentially already done. So I might as well go back to bed   :)
