Some CDs come with bonus content like pictures, movies, artwork, pamphlets etc.
But the vast majority of them do not.

And if there wasn't so much downloading of this sort of stuff I might have even been able to buy it from a source that would make its publisher profit too.

agreed. However, I consider buying cds a kind of appreciation for artists I like - I wouldn't buy an album just like that before knowing I will actually hear and like the music.
