Why are my sprites black?

I have a problem, I have a sprite I ripped from an old game, but when I try to use it for a pallette swap in fighter factory, the image is all black, it's the shape of the image but it's entirely black like a shadow form, what am I doing wrong? and how can I fix this? pls help, ty
