Why do so many users get pissed at compilation games?

Ever since I came on to mugen guild there have been topic's about someone claiming they made a game and in the end, the game that the person claimed they "made" turns out to be a compilation, and then there's like twelve pages of people throwing a fit. If you don't like compilations why not just not reply to the topic?

Because everyone has a right to voice their opinion. One of the many main (unofficial :P ) points of this forum in general is that for everything that is released or discussed, people can express what they like or dislike about it. They can give constructive criticism.

And when it comes to compilations..the only real advice one can give is "Stop making them". Although everyone has their own way of saying that. ;)

compilations are cool for someone that just started out in mugen, but for anyone that has been messing with mugen for a longer time they have no appeal because they're a set of characters they could have put together themselves.

and when a game turns out to be a compilation it turns out to be disappointing because it really is just a bunch of characters put together without having balance, matching gameplay or graphical details

Not only that, they spend their time downloading the thing just to find out that its useless to them. So basically they feel like someone fooled them when they could have just admitted it wasnt work done by them and they wouldnt even have downloaded it.

Well I mean, most of us that play Mugen have compilations that we put together over time on our computers. The very idea of releasing a compilation though is a totally different story. Especially when done horribly..like some sort of DBZ Vs Marvel VS King of Fighters type deal.

1. Because Mugen compilation cheapens the entire point of Mugen. The point of Mugen is to make your own game or games. If that isn't your reasons then you should just buy the real games.

2. They are full of characters that are coding and sprite challenged, every time too.

3. Because people need something complain about, otherwise they would see that they are an adult or approaching adulthood and still masturbating to video game sprites.

To add to the why


People who create compilation games are often seen in creator's eyes as a lack of real effort towards working on something made of quality and serious time. In compilations you sometimes may only end up with unbalanced fighters, mismatched artwork, missing frames for special attacks, over powered characters that make a fighter pointless to even try, and numerous bugs from alpha releases or wips not yet complete that can make a mugen crash right in the middle of play.

On the side of the fans who game but can't create they often feel cheated from being promised something fun and only ending up with something that was really made on something unoriginal or something they all ready have and played 100X over. Basically they get let down so much they feel a need to complain about it.



Typically anyone on a forum towards a subject, in this case mugen, will most certainly want to post something about it and if people want to waste their time posting this sucks then they'll do it regardless if it's tasteless because mugen means a lot to these people who come here expecting more.



Although the irony of it all is that nearly everyone on a mugen forum is a compilationist, yes it's true they will do the same thing but never post it unless it's youtube showing it off and sharing. The few that aren't are likely the ones posting the you suck comments for the reasons all ready mentioned.

But you really shouldn't care because the 95% of users who don't post only care about the downloads, the percent that makes up the real mugen community is silent and they'll like your work regardless as they'll just add it to their collection of 1000 or more.

The active community is just the 5% that are actually creators or do everything and anything to create or their fans who like to interact with them and speak out with thorough opinions.

I don't think theres annything wrong with talking about what you've added in the old mugen version or new mugen version. And discussing opinions. But if your going to go and release it as YOUR game, then you have to think. Imagine you create something. Then some one goes put it on there mugen version, then, releases it as THERE game. You can give credit i suppose but it still looks bad. I think just talking about, like, what did you put in your character roster? What life bars? What screen pack? Just, like, talking about that insted seems better to me.*edit For exemple: Create a ( My mugen character roster ) topic.

I just am tired to see thousand of them with cheap characters. Because a lot of people who posts compilations are in favour of flashiness, rather than balance --;

That's one of the main problems there. They didn't make the game or anything in it.
It's basically equivalent of me DLing some Half Life 2 model packs that change the appearance of guns, and all the civilians to hot women in bikinis. Then releasing it as "my all new exciting game!"

They are releasing something everyone who uses Mugen can do, has done, and is playing on their computer already. Except now someone is trying to receive e-creds for their lack of work.

That and 99% of the time they are filled with horrid suck and awful characters to fill all the empty slots on their screenpack, which was also made by someone else.

 I don't mind good compilation games, with soundtrack, good stages and good matching screenpack.

the problem arises when the uploader acts like it is all my mighty effort to collect this ultra rare chars and put them together, and how it takes much energy doing that, then please praise me more

I don't think anyone genuinely gets pissed. There's a just a bashing factor that arises when such compilations are released.

My W.I.P. full game, "LucasX3 vs LucasX3:The Nightmare Begins" is a compilation game with three original characters I'm making.

After seeing this thread, I've decided to make the roster smaller and with characters, worry about balence and if they will somehow fit with the story..

I was going to have four of the Black Heart characters in the game(with Borghi's permission), but I decided to ditch them, because they can kick your ass easily.(Hashi might return, but as a unlockable and he will be "nerfed" a bit)

However games like that Super Marvel vs Capcom game, they seem like they will be very unbalanced.

Would choosing me for the question thread be a
unique experience?  I can't really say.

Well, everyone's Mugen roster is pretty much a compilation, so there's really no need to just release that, you might as well just post your select.def instead so people can download everything themselves.

Well according to the comments on ristar87's youtube profile, some people are cool with downloading a gaint rar full of pretty crappy characters with everything setup for them, and they love it. Lazyness kills people.

My only beef, and it's probably been said I'm just not gonna look for it...on the same page, is when they put up this shitty set and make it seem like they put all of their heart and soul into creating these characters and this game and everybody play shit different haha. It's annoying as fuck.
i cant count the reasons i should stay

one by one they all just fade away...

It's still kinda messed up when they've spent 3 days uploaded a 10 gigabyte file just to post on a specific forum, and then the forum deletes the topic. Not counting the time they spent packing the archive. That's usually the work they're talking about when they say, I"I put in work." Hahaha! :smartass:
