Byakko is just a cross person, but he does help. He could be nicer.

personally i think his reputation precedes him and even if he's nice people assume he's being jerk :P

and i defend creations that get bashed alot on principle. my feedback points out anything obvious that i notice or gameplay notes, because i don't have the experience to give comprehensive feedback.

I haven't seen you post but maybe twice in any of the MUGEN sections, and not once do I recall it being a release thread unless some shit was going down.

@ Shamrock, The only people giving feedback that you see yelling or being "rude" is when there has been several occasions of the author completely ignoring the feedback given to them. This makes the person who gives feedback annoyed, think of it as if you were a very proper character coder and you gave feedback to newbie character creators and they constantly ignored it, wouldn't that make you annoyed? So, most people that gave or still currently give feedback aren't very nice about it considering the person they keep trying to help, isn't trying to get better. Honestly, I agree with most of the people no longer giving feedback, except for the ones who don't know what they are talking about coding wise and they are just trolling, then they should take advice from your first post.

I stopped giving feedback because I don't care if any given creator gets better at creating or not.

Sugarcoating won't help anyone get better.

If something's terrible, they need to be told it's terrible. They also need to be told why it's terrible, and that does happen in the vast majority of threads.

Bash the creation, not the creator, imo. Unless the creator's a dick in which case, bash away. :)

I don't understand the need to bash at all. If it sucks and the creator isn't going to take feedback, why even bother posting?

You guys do not have to post in these threads. I don't think anyone is going to die if you don't bash something.

G.I.F.T.

Seriously, though, I'll post feedback if I catch something critical and I like the character enough to try and help get the author to improve it. Otherwise, I don't bother.

I do think it's sad that we get a lot of "LOL -1 UR CHAR IS BALLZ", but like I said...G.I.F.T.

The best way to bash a bad creation is to utterly ignore the thread. Don't bump it, don't give it the time of day. If the author has released it as if it's good, and it isn't. Ignore it. Forever.

Same technique that should be used on trolls.

They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it's not one half so bad as a lot of ignorance.

You have a point if the creator isn't going to take feedback. But if they are...

...If they're not informed how vastly (or slightly) terrible their creation is, they might think the problems aren't as big as they actually are (or worse, not know they exist).

Also there might be a bit of confusion as to what "bashing" is. IMO it is calling out problems for what they are, not petty insults. A useless comment would be insulting the creator's mother or whatever, while saying a character is shit can be 100% accurate and needed to be said.

it does help.

there is a thing called pride, when you hurt it in the first phrase of your comment, the rest of your comment loses its meaning.

an effective way of contructive criticism should be written in balanced sense, and using words that states your point without hurting the feeling,
for example

"his jump is too low, he can't jump over a fireball"
"he is jumping like his cock tied to the ground, WTF everytime he tries to jump over a fireball he got his balls roasted"

both are objective, explain the same thing, commenting the character and not the creator, arent' they?

Your example's a bit nonsensical and focused on male genitalia. If the "insult" was a bit more realistic, then no, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

I learned long ago that tiptoeing around hypersensitive people's feelings is far more trouble than it's worth. If people are going to take offense at criticism to their character ("insulting" criticism or no), then they're not worth your time.
Emphasis on "criticism to their character." I don't think anyone would disagree that insulting the creator directly is not good.

The best way to bash a bad creation is to utterly ignore the thread. Don't bump it, don't give it the time of day.

The problem is some people act like they can't miss an opportunity to show how creative they are with insults, or how disproportionally dismissive they can be with a one-liner.

They way I see it, if you care enough to download and test, you might as well extend that caring to at least pointing out how to fix something, or mention what seems to be off if you lack the techniical knowledge to point to a possible fix.

For stuff that's so blantantly incomplete that it becomes flame bait (like required sprites missing and stuff like that), perhaps it might be viable to send thread about such creations to the Projects section to get the point across, although I doubt the staff would bother.

That is pretty funny stuff.

I go with Cy's thinking on this. I mean, i've seen suck stay on the board for months just so people can complain about how it sucks. Kong comes to mind.

While good creations stay up there a week at the most.

when I'm working on a project that spent 6 months or more, and somebody come around "bashing" my creation, I will get angry since I would be too attached to that subject.

especially if the reason is saying it in more proper way doesn't worth his few minutes of his time.

commenting and bashing is not the same at all.

"movement sucks, animation sucks, gameplay sucks, this character belongs to the recycle bin"

that's bashing and not constructive, because there are no reason as why it is suck, actually if the word suck replaced with reason, it can turn into a good criticism

"movement feels floaty, animation is choppy need more frame, gameplay is too gimmicky and doesn't feel like fighting game"

if I walked into a thread of a character that I really can't say anything good, or I think that there is no beginning to say anything, I just walked away.

Empty generic criticism could always be split off by mods and katamaried into a "Bad feedback" thread here in Mugen Discussion as an example of what not to do - mindless bashers would get their visibility, but not at the expense of the thread or by extending its lifespan.
