character portrait problem

I recently downloaded a lifebar that displays the small portrait from the character select screen. Now I'm having problems because it displays it all smudged and blurred. I asked in the past how you can change the small character portrait without problems and I got a satisfying answer but now the problem resurfaces because of the lifebar. So here I am again asking, how do you change the character portrait without any problems. Plus, my way of changing the character portrait kind of reduces the quality of the picture(some of my characters have great quality portraits). So how can you change the character portrait, both small and big without having any problems.
