looks like somebody has never heard of InfCat or Shugen-Do.

mugen already is technically open source, so the point your trying to make is confuseing. as far as hacking mugens core code, i'm pretty sure thats kinda pushing legality.

so ya, just go talk to the infcat and shugen-do guys.

edit: oops, sorry, looks like you already know about shugen-do

edit after fully reading the link: hey, makeing a mugen replacement is hard, shugen-do and infcat will be fully open source once they are released, but not right now because niether are done. and i they arn't planning to charge either, go read their section, please.
holy crap, i'm back and stuff... if anyone cares.

MUGEN is not open-source by any means. The source code was never released.

Interesting idea.

We could donate and then someone will make us an engine.

I didn't see how much the program would cost.

You guys might have better luck with a final number that you were looking to get.

You like get a quote from some programmers and then see if you can match that number.

Then your site could have a one of those bars that show how close we are getting to the price.

Reason 2) Mugen is getting old and its not fun anymore for the hardcore Mugen fans

OBJECTION!

I still have fun and i'm sure plenty of other guys as well, after all the new characters are a results of having fun with mugen, i don't recall hearing about creators who were forced to do new characters by a bunch of guys claiming to whip thier asses if they dont... :S

Besides, this is AGAIN one of this we have an idea you do it requests. Sure we all love mugen and all but it's really better to wait for ShugenDo to be finished, or at least donate this money for the author of this project or whatever since starting from scratch is simply pointless.

Yeah if P.O.T.S wanted to do a fund raiser for some programers to make mugen open source then I would be in.

I mean who are these guys?

why would you need money? does Shugendo or infiniityCat need money for their development?

everything you said about Shugendo can be said about you, in the same manner.

-Do we want to wait for some random guy we never heard of make an engine?
-etc..etc...

face it you're no different, its not like as soon as you get coders your engine will be done it takes time. stop thinking on one side, you'll need to change your argument if you expect even one other person to want to help you.

There is only one problem with our idea ... we are NOT programmers and we do NOT have the skills to develop it.

What the heck?

Seriously.....well actually I can't take it seriously. Nevermind.

Assuming you will hire someone, professional programmer. Than what? In order to produce something that will emulate all the things mugen offers and possibly add more this hired person will have to know how currend build of mugen works, possibly understand the coding language etc. I seriously doubt that it is a job for an avarage office type of software developer...

No offense, but your whole site and story sounds like a scam. I doubt you'll get any donation at all, as you're not giving any credentials or evidence you're serious.

take the hint, we arn't buying into this, and we probably never will, at least not anytime soon.

we are all content to play our mugen the way it is, and we are all also content to wait for shugendo and infcat to finish their stuff.

thats as nice as i'm going to put it, your project may see light yet, just not here.
holy crap, i'm back and stuff... if anyone cares.

Proof is good.

A beta or alpha of some kind of engine would help.

Now your going to say "But I need money for that"

No contact a programmer show them that mugen has thousands of people still fucking with it. Tell them that if we can show them something then they would donate. So the deal is they make a demo and then we would donate and trust me that would work.

On the other hand your idea is something that the guild way want to look at doing it's self. I mean donations to the end of making a new engine and with our creditability it would have a better chance.

I think the idea is solid I just don't have any reason to trust you.

I would donate to this project, but it is much more cost effective to donate coding time, since $100 usd is about as much money as I make for 48 hours of coding (damn third world country slaries).

@masterunix:

I know that anyone can do a whois on your domain and find out you're a folk named M.D living in Holland, that's not the point here. By evidence I meant a solid proof that you're serious on developing a new engine. Do some work before and release it, and THEN ask for donations to complete it. In your case, you're asking money first, with no promises that you'll find a developer and even if that developer will be able to do the commissioned job: certainly not a good prospective on where to invest my lunch money.

On top of that, you're always mentioning that no one will work for free and therefore need some funds to hire a developer. I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but people do things for free. Elecbyte did the engine for free, Infcat and Sakirsoft and other developers have coded their engines for free. All the people that create characters and stuff for mugen do it for free. If you can't find or recruit someone that will do the initial work for free (or at least, put some money of your own to pay that developer), then you're not looking at the right place. Better invest the money collected on someone who has already done the work for free such as the above mentioned folks.

The bottom line is that you first GIVE, before you GET. That's how everything works
