Pocket Dimensional Clash (general discussion)
« on: January 05, 2009, 01:45:55 PM »
Hello dudes.

First of all, I want to avoid a rain of people that "wants to help" and won't help at all.

HISTORY

A loooong time ago (2001, If I remember well), I had joined an old Pocket SNK vs CAPCOM project, with just those NeoGeo Pocket characters. At that time, we had some characters done (like my Pocket Ilusionista), they was using a more complex scheme of colors and many people just had disappeared.

Then, in 2006, I reorganize this idea again, but on a bigger project called Pocket Dimension Clash, where characters from different universes battled togheter. So, we had, on the same project, M.Bison (SF), Haggar(FF), Kakashi (Naruto), plus original characters. We had an original story, an original last boss but, saddly, my previous forum was HACKED...and we've lost a lot of information. Just to help, when MGBR had exchanged server...they had recover and old version of the project...so a lot of thigs was lost...

But this idea never leaves my mind...and talking with a big friend, Gates, I've decided to bring this project back.

THE PROJECT

The project consists in a slugfest of diferent chars, from diferent ages, diferent dimensions...all battling against a Evil force called Khaos, who had unbalanced the universe forces by taking the Medalion of Existence, and ancient artifact that helps to estabilish all the universes harmony.

Thanx to that, characters from diferent universes can fight togheter (or against), even if they are dead in some time. They battle for unique objectives, beeing good or not.

GRAPHICS

All characters must have SvsC pocket design from NeoGeo Color's game, but recolored on this style:

1- The shading style had CHANGED. To speed up the process, I'll stick with a black border and plain colors, like on this image:

2 - There WONT BE ANY MAGUS (Pocket World) character on the game. He made a FREAK SHOW at Scruffy forum (via PM) saying that I'm "copying his shade style". Oh, come on! This project, originally, is from 2001! There are some chars released to prove it, like Pocket Terry (by Diego Sanches) and Ryuzito (pocket ryu, by DeSouza).

That is what keep separating mugen comunities...

Its kinda easy: there are 3 colors, 1 for stroke, 1 for inner shadow and 1 for the fill, for each part. Pretty easey, huh?
Its a black border with flat colors now.

The FX will follow a CVS/MVS like fashion (blurred sprites), and they will be included on the screenpack .sff

STAGES

Stages will follow a 8bit stricly fashion, so any bg from a NES or NeoGeo Pocket game (could be MasterSystem too, if its fits) can be used, but some animation must be done. Take a look at two finished stages:

CHARACTERS ROOST

Its not defined yet. If you wanna help, you can do anyone you want. I do prefer, horever, not to have too many oeverused chars, like Ryu (besides it will be done), Ken, Dan, etc...But, if you wanna do some character, go ahead. My goal, horever, is to make some unconverted or not present in crossovers chars, like J. Maxium (WH), joker, etc.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

You can help in the followings ways:

1 - Ripping the sprites from the NeoGeo games, besides a lot of sprites where beeing ripped http://sdb.drshnaps.com/SpritesNeoGeoPocket.htm

2 - Editing new characters. It can be ANYONE that you like and don't need to be shaded.

3 - Paiting the avaliable sprite sheets, to the project standarts

4 - Programing some chars. Like I've said, It can be ANYONE...you just need to inform who you will program, because there will be ONLY one version of each char.

5 - Anything that will help, like stages.

BUT I WANT PEOPLE THAT REALLY WANTS TO HELP AND WILL HELP ALL THE WAY. If you think that you can't help in all the project, please don't join.

GAME STYLE

Not totally defined yet. It will have a VS flavor for sure, but with some new things like KOF2000-like strikers, wall jumps, Combo Breakers, etc. Suggestions are aceppted.

WHAT IS ALREAD DONE?

Like I've said, I lost my things....but Somethings was backuped

CHARS
M.Bison - 50%
Pocket Leona - 40%
Captain Cold - Released by Gate

Screenpack
its a closed game, runs only with this SP: for now, just the lifebars.

STAGES
3 stages: Slums (Might Final Fight), Arabia (KOF) and Tower (Astyanax)

the original topic could be seen here http://forum.mgbr.net/index.php?showtopic=41873&hl=pocket&st=0 but all the external links are dead.

I will talk with Magus if he lets we used his Pocket World chars on this project, but that is not oficial

WHO IS IN THE PROJECT?

Until now:

O Ilusionista
Gate
Akito-Sama
Eclipse
.batzarro.
Mega-Force-Power
GOLD_TSG
Slowcar48

WHICH CHARS ARE BEEING DONE?

O Ilusionista: M.Bison(Vega), Leona, D. Dark, Hwa Jai
Gate: Captain Cold, Akira (RivalSchools), Access(DC&Marvel)
Eclipse: Emma Frost/White Queen
.batzarro.: Harley, Rhino

and more.

BETA DOWNLOAD - ITS A CLOSED MUGEN GAME, SO THE CHARS WILL WORK ONLY ON THIS SCREENPACK

Download: http://bmt.mgbr.net/pdc/!PDC_BETA.EXE or http://bmt.mgbr.net/pdc/!PDC_BETA.rar
If you encounter problems with the "system.snd" on the exe file, use http://bmt.mgbr.net/pdc/sound.rar

this is an old sprite and i don't know if it helps at all

i can't say i really like the recoloring method you're using, it's far too simplistic and doesn't improve the sprite much, but that's your decision in the end. proper shading makes ngpc sprites look a lot better and it isn't all that hard to do. i definitely look forward to this project

hahahahah. very nice! This is the char that I most like from WH series

I`ve choose the pillow shading because its easy to anyone do, so we can have more people working togheter and could have some different chars. On that way, they are quicker to do. Sure, I would love to have all chars on the same style of Pocket Terry Bogard by my friend DiegoSanches, but that style is hard to do.

Here are some other characters edits done by Gate:

The main goal here is not to have the "ALL OLD KNOW" chars, like Ryu, Ken, etc, etc etc...I think that Ryu its okay, but we won't need to do Ken, Dan and every other Shoto (besides, I won't opposit). I think that we could do some other shotos, for example, like Kairi, Retsu, etc.

The other idea is to have some unabaliable chars in VS crossovers or even unconverted chars, like Toe&Jam, Max (shingin force), etc.

Hum, I think he isnt of the same size of the other pockets. This are the right size games:

KOF R1 and R2
SvsC
Real Bout Fatal Fury

The others (Samurai Shodown, Last Blade, Megaman, etc) must be RESIZED first

Take a look (besides this crashman looks the same size):

Some edits that can be used to see the style

Hwa Jai (will be in the game)

Lao (secret FF char) by GOLD_TSG. It has a brighter shadow style

Amazing how you can win an award and not even realize it.

I proudly helped speed Card Sagas Wars in its development.

Hmmmm....Sounds like a great project.

If you ever need Ken...I'm almost done with his recolors. This is just a piece of the whole sheet:

PM me sometime if you're interested, and Good luck on your project.

Sprite in my Avi is open source. :D

edit: someone that I will add on the project for sure:

Its a bit smaller than the other chars, but since its a robot, its ok.

I will try to mimic it...but I'm afraid that I can't do  --; Maybe a more basic shading (like the one I've used on Bison) its quicker?

JYD: That guy I would like to do: http://sdb.drshnaps.com/sheets/SNK/Other/RickStrowd.gif

MaxBeta: Could you shade one frame of M.Bison(vega) so I can try to mimic your style?

I won't use pillow shading anymore. Just a simply black border with flat colors.

It doesnt really look bad. It's like youre saying that all Nes games do look bad. Almost all of them are shaded like that. A clssic feel is always a good twist.

I do respect your decision man. It's ok. I will do one aswell. Will post it once i finish it.  :)

still think its ridiculous that any one person can claim pillow shading as being their copyright
