A topic about a mod within an 8 year old game that plagued the game listings crowding out all the good ones and having mediocre at best gameplay?

I could make a longer run on sentence ranting about it but meh.

Well there are many other ways to play. You just need to find a new play style or play an old version.

And as far as the DotA haters go there are many reasons why its successful as it is. One of the biggest being that they spent real money advertising it. I got stuff in the mail about it and I never registered for anything with it.

You're right. Sometimes when I go to cyber cafes instead of at my house 70% of the people there play 1.DOTA or 2.FOC ior 3.TDs if they are opening Frozen Throne.

Shame it became popular by playing off the map that was popular in Classic. I mean, in the early versions it still had all Eul's stuff, and a godawful edit of the original map, which actually made the original DotA what it is.

Now it's crammed full of stuff that differentiates it from the original, but if it had all this shit when it was first created, it wouldn't be popular.

You're wrong KFD its not just for man, even women play DOTA in my country, though in my country the addiction is baby compared to Korea. Everything Starcraft, they have Starcraft in their everyday lifes. In their dictionaries they have words like Zerglings, Protoss, Ultralisk, Yamato, Dark Templar, really, its ask any Korean and they'll tell you.

Perma-bash is a pretty lame Beyond Godlike anyway. I prefer a good Spectre or Techies Beyond Godlike, alternatively Spiritbreaker is funny ;P.

What do you mean? i never said DotA is for men only. hell I teach 5 chicks how to play DotA

Depends on your definition of "alive." If you mean still having a relatively large playerbase, then yes, you're quite correct. As many if not more people load up wc3 to play dota than to play regular warcraft matches.

For what I cared about wc3 for (the mapping community), it's quite dead. There are small, glimmering rays of potential growing out of it's corpse, but I haven't seen a new idea for 3-4 years. I log in to bnet about once a month, and I have found some new decent maps (gem td, fortress survival, for example) in the past year or two, but they're all old ideas made better (poker td and kodo tag, respectively).


Can't wait for starcraft 2. I have no doubt a new "dota" will suffocate the game listings, but I also think some refreshing new game ideas will emerge.

Guys/Gals, have you all played Fight of Characters before? It's close to DOTA except you don't have to worry about your base. To win you either kill 100 times or kill Super Buu. It's quite good, especially the  sprites. It's not putting a Kael' naming it as Aizen saying "That was too easy". It's really heavy sprite edits.

I actually saw good attempts on putting Starcraft units into Warcraft FT.

The recent gfx changes are cool, although they made my aiming of Chronosphere slightly worse. :P
