Wasn't a character. DBZME2 was the game. So a bunch of el cheapo dbz shit. Followed by a dbz pack with a gundam in which made me start messing with the engine.

In M.U.G.E.N there is no magic button

When I first tried mugen around 2008 or 9' I remember a website I believe it was called Mugenation or something, where I could navigate through the site to find characters, and I remember vage that a Juggernaut, John Talbein and Kamek were amongst the first that I downloaded.

I specifically remember being age like 11, going onto the computers at the lab near my mother's workplace and installing MUGEN with I think katana7900's Blossom, 007's Bubbles, and DoomGuy's Buttercup. I remember not knowing what the heck motion inputs were and being astounded whenever I got anything to come out with Buttercup, especially since I think the other two had single button move inputs. Fun times.

Mega Man X by N64Mario, alongside his Guile.
I remember not knowing anything about mugen, it was difficult to even add characters, there was little to no information back then, Mega Man X was the first character I successfully added and I was so happy when I saw him in the select screen lol

For me, I'm pretty sure it was N64Mario's characters, specifically Pocket Mario being the very first. I think it was because it was one of the first things the popped up when I searched "mugen characters" as a wee lad, and the "Mario" caught my eye.

Some other people here are listing his creations as well; again, probably because it was one of the first search results, lmao.

I don't remember well, but I think it was NeoGouki's Rock Howard. After so many years, it's still my favorite version of Rock, no matter out there are better or more accurate versions

Probably some random DBZ character. The first proper character was probably Gouken by Slayer & Khadgar i think? It was SFA3 style. (wish I still had that one).

Hard to say. I remember trying to download Bane84 and N64Mario's characters when I first discovered MUGEN almost 15 years ago, but at the time I had no clue how to install them. I want to say the first character I ever downloaded was N64Mario's Cursor but I'm not completely sure. As for the first character I actually installed, Zeeky H Bomb

I know the exact batch of mugen characters that paved the way for me to realize anyone could make content if they just got to it:

...D4 Reimu? Think that's the first individual character I downloaded and wanted her to fight against others, so I downloaded a character pack and have her fight with her AI, seeing who she can beat.

It was a collection I bought at a mall I think around year 2000 or 2001. A highschool friend of mine had dumb fun with it. I think he enjoyed playing that Bubble Bobble character spamming those bubbles against the hentai KOF characters.

Got me into the world of Mugen and made me think of what characters I want for my very own personal Mugen game.

I think it was a MVC Version of Jon Talbain, I downloaded Mugen last year just to make a MVC game and I wanted him in the roster

R.I.P Mugen 1999-202X

While I can't remember the exact first character I downloaded, some of the earliest downloads I got were Mike's Missingno, Claymizer's Sonic, Warner's Peter Griffin, and ShinRyoga's Mario.

Hopefully someday I'll be able to make the little puffball on my profile pic.

I do remember back in 08 that most of my roster consisted on Marvel, Capcom, and SNK characters. If by memory, POTS Shin Gouki was probably the first character I added to the roster.

For me it was probably MASA's SF2 Ryu or Inverse's Roomi, altough in the Mugen 1.1 build i downloaded instead of Kung Fu Man, the starting character was Garlic Jr. by Chrono_Strife.

Way back when chickens still had teeth, I'd gotten me some of N64Mario's works to fiddle around with; his SFA Ryu was the absolute first.

Also some MK3 Sub-Zero with Aggressor, who knows who that one was by.
