So yeah, I felt a desire to make some color separation patches for characters, including ones that possibly won't get any use. But! I think all characters deserve CS justice, so I'm gonna start trying to make a few in my spare time.

I figured I'd start out with a character on the simpler side, sprite wise. So I've had a go at International Karateka by The_None. I've edited all his sprites, but I'm not sure what I should do with him now. Do I post the sff file here for feedback? Apologies, I barely know what I'm doing at the moment.

Also, was wondering if hands separated would be a good idea. It would require a lot more improvising regarding the sprites, but it might be worth while.

Maybe I should revive the CS thread for these queries tho. Hmm.

I say go for it if it's not much of a hassle
Did you make a palette template? I haven't played the character in a long time  but wasn't there a referee and balls he threw?

Thanks for the feedback, I think I'll go for it. There's not too many sprites and it should be relatively easy to do.

I haven't made a template yet, no, If I'm honest I'm not entirely sure how to. Is there a standard way to make them? And he does have the referee and balls, I wasn't sure if they should be CS'd too. Shouldn't be too difficult to edit them though, so I'll give it a go.

Here's an example

Make it in paint or other sprite program you currently using
Post a couple sprites that show all the colors
When you complete it make sure it indexed and have  the same palette  as the one in the cs sff
And then it could be released
Or you could post the sff and someone would make one for you
Sorry if it's sound complicated I not good explaining stuff

tried the sff
the eyes share colors with his mouth and some of pants/arms  if you change the eye color(top 2nd color) of the default palette to something bright(i chose yellow) you can see where the shared colors are.
other then that looks good :)

Do you think it would be better, in the case of the sprite in the first post, to leave the eyebrows as a black line, and separate the eyes underneath to a different color? Just wondering if, for instance, I gave him blue eyes, the blue eyebrows might look a bit weird. I could change the eyebrows to the hair color actually, that would make sense.

Hmm, I had tended to leave those as black, as they were randomly placed over the character, and it could be too fiddley to have them CS'd seperately... Not sure now though.

While I wait on some things and try and work out some things regarding Karateka, I wanted to post a preview of another CS patch I've been working on:

Looks good though I think you want to look at the white eye color because it looks like it might share colors with the White spot on the shirt/shoes/gloves

What character is this btw?

Ah yeah, I do plan on separating the eyes and shoes, along with finishing the wrists. Also trying to work out how much of the torso I should recolor for the arms, or if I should separate them at all.

The character is Ryoga Hibiki from Ranma 1/2, as made by the great AnkokuNaitou. http://ankokunaitou.blog.fc2.com/blog-entry-5.html A personal fav of mine.

Hit a bit of an issue. Most of this character's sprites use the same palette, including for his SFX. Is there a way to seperate the SFX into it's own palette or something, so I don't have to recolour every single one?

Is that a hitspark or projectile effect
I haven't messed with projectiles/effects for a long time. Maybe try opening the effects in another sprite program and then index it  with a new palette and readd them back to the sff with a new palette then the cs'd palette
