I don't know how many of you noticed or realized the thing I call fake wide screen. (have less things to see compare to 4:3)

Just made a video to show you what did I mean
and how you can make it true wide screen.

I hope this can get stage maker's attention, so I don't have to modify them everytime.

I made a part 2
since I found expand localcoord x is not good, it will distort stage vs character ratio make stage looks too small.

the correct way is make localcoord y smaller but there is a price to pay

it also contain how to loop BG Music

totally agree with you
i don't like the fake ws stage because of that
that's why i use your modified stages which keep the ratio and extend the itself

  • Participate, be a part.
very nice but damn thats a lot of work and patience. what we need is a stage converter to automatically do some of the work the creators can fine tune it.

It is necessary that Mugen handles 16:9 this way.  There is no standard width for a stage.  If a stage is less than 426 pixels wide, then there is nothing to show on the sides.  Most bonus stages are 320 pixels wide because they have no horizontal scrolling in 4:3.

Really, a lot of things do 16:9 this way.  16:9 isn't a very good ratio.  16:9 resolutions do not use the same vertical resolution as 4:3 resolutions, but the vertical scaling is the most important!  16:10 is better because of that.  (It would still have this problem in Mugen, though)

There is no good or bad ratio.

the key point is
is this character or stage made first in 4:3 or 16:9

imagine you drew a picture in 4:3 1st
what is the easiest way to make it 16:9?
you cut up and down parts is the easiest way
the hard way is to draw new things beside to expend it and give it new information.

same for 16:9
you drew a picture in 16:9 now you need to convert to 4:3
what is the easiest way to make it 4:3?
cut left and right sides
or the harder way? draw new things up and down.

because most characters and stages were made for 4:3 1st, that's why 16:9 looks no good.
if things are made in 16:9 first then 4:3 will looks no good.

now it's 2020
most monitor is 16:9
I wish people notice this and start to make stuff in 16:9 1st. if you still make 4:3 1st, 16:9 will never looks good.

by the way
I made another convertion
