Crosses fingers SNK wants this collaboration and make a new game other than KOF and Samurai Showdown.

Earlier today, Streets of Rage 4 developer Lizardcube shared a gorgeous mock-up for its concept of a Garou: Mark of the Wolves sequel. I want it to be real so bad.

Garou: Mark of the Wolves was first released to arcades in 1999 as the final game in SNK’s Fatal Fury franchise before King of Fighters absorbed it entirely. An official sequel was planned at one point but never came to fruition. In fact, the “Boss Fur” seen in Lizardcube’s reimagining is taken from old concept art released by SNK in 2016.

There’s no indication that anyone is actually working on Garou: Mark of the Wolves 2, but King of Fighters XIV director Yasuyuku Oda did offer a joking reply to Lizardcube’s tweet, so I guess anything is possible. All I know is that a Garou revival inspired by the aesthetics of Streets of Rage 4 would be incredibly cool.

I don't think it will happen.
The graphics process is too long.
Either the game will be limited or it will take years to make it.

They already took the number "4" of SOR series and make a beautiful but limited game.
I would not want them to "kill" the "2" number for MOTW

How was SOR4 limited?

  • SNK is life
I'm curious about this too^

Apparently earlier SOR games had interesting additional mechanics like running or rolling and such, but having SOR4 being mostly of traditional gameplay held it back in no way shape or form.

I personally feel it's an instant classic, and I love it.

Basically.
This is just my point of view with my average english :

SOR 4 is a great game, but just a nice/decent SOR one.
The studio planed a lot of content, I even talked with them in some french streams.
But it was impossible to add all the content because of the complexity of graphics.
Crazy juggles with wall bounces etc was a way to give the gameplay some diversity, because the lack of animations was a problem.
They also removed many enemies and abused of silly palette swaps. like the one to make cops looking like ninja (etc)

They said they want it "classic. à la SOR2", but I'm pretty sure it's a "technical" choice, because they are not a big company.
So, they did'nt included runs, rolls, police support, weapon special moves, evolutive variation of special moves with stars collecting system etc...

Some people may not like the new graphic style, I think it's gorgeous, modern, with some touch of Franco-Belgian comics inside.
(Really visible in Cherry and some enemies's design...)

I would have enjoyed this game so much if the name was not SOR"4", and if it was more like an homage or special episode "SOR 2020" I don't know...

If they ever want to try making a fighting game, I think they will have to employ many artists for making the sprites, when their initial "team" make the key frames and important animations.

The good thing is SNK, noticing this art, they might try to do something by themselves instead.
What Sega did not with Sor sequel.

There's also a small portion of the Streets Of Rage community who believe it or not prefer it with 3D graphics.

the cut content/technical limitations is a fair critique i think. really my problem with sor4 was that it eschewed some QOL features that would've pushed it from really great to near perfect, in the name of maintaining the old school style. but i don't feel like it fell short of being a true sequel, i feel like it'd have to have way more glaring flaws than just some limitations to warrant that criticism.

the arts really great, cant find any issues with it.

I would love to see a MOTW 2 in the making.

This art style is quite unorthodox from SNK's POV, but it looks way better than their out-of-date 3D modelling they use.
