You botched the  beginning of that sentence.

Basically Schaffer needed some support to release his future game, for the first time in forever he went to ask funds from fans. He set his targets at 400 000 , in less than eight hours he had double that ammount.

He deserves it too.

Whoops, but you see where I'm going with it.

Extra funds will currently go towards better VA, multiplat release and so much more. If this succeeds the avenue for other great game developers to take this and make a truly great game, without the publishers and other legalities when dealing with funding will be gone, an allow the dev to take it places without anything holding them back. Imagine what some even bigger names could get, if the "lowly" Tim Schafer could get this amount of support in mere hours. I cannot express how excited I am and happy that its working.

EDIT: Lol, between me first creating the thread and this post its nearly jumped by by 10 grand. Fucking. Awesome.

its now a full mill, it jumped about 50 thousand dollars since the start of this thread.

And wtf, lowly? Schafer is the closest to a western myamoto. I bet he just never figured out how much pull he has.

I say "lowly" in the sense compared to the gaming mass of today, who overlook great games like Stacking, Once Upon a Monster, etc. We know better, but the newer gamers of today don't.

And capcom doesnt do this...why? Tim just asks for a small donation, capcom asks for millions of signatures and asks us to buy a psone classic game that is the worst possible port it could be (god we'll never see darkstalkers 4)

1)  The type of game a company like Capcom makes would require upwards of tens of millions of dollars.  Fanbase or not, you'd be pretty damn hard-pressed to crowd source that much funding.

2)  Capcom doesn't have to rely on external publishers to fund their games, so there's no reason at all for them to ask the fans to fund a game in full like this.

3)  Capcom doesn't have as much pent-up good will and enthusiasm from its fans as Double Fine, and Tim Schafer in particular, does.

4)  This the first time anything like this has ever happened, let alone succeeded so completely, so there's no way of knowing if it would work for Capcom, or anybody else.

tl;dr  It's really fucking stupid to start asking why everybody else isn't doing this already.  Take that 'herp derp Capcom Co., Ltd.' shit elsewhere, please.

This was great and im glad it happened. It couldnt have happened to better persons. The comparisons with capcom are stupid, they are an editor house by themselves, they can fund whatever the fuck they want.

Schafer details how the unexpected funding will be used to make the game bigger and better.  Now they have the budget for full English voice acting, translations for French, Italian, German, and Spanish language versions, plus they're going to be able to develop it for PC, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android.
