Wait, this threads been read HOW MANY TIMES???????
I have been meaning to do this for ages now, but be it life, other interests, or plainly me procrastinating like a twat, i haven't. Well, i've been redoing Bardock, as i've learnt a LOT since i began this post,, released a character, working on another one, etc
But without further ado, here are his reduxed sprites, including some new stuff that i haven't posted here, as well as some Placeholder anims since it's been a while. Without further ado, here ya go

I am very steadfast on drawing my own stuff as much as possible. I started Bardock as a sort of learning experience after all. But i thank you for the suggestion nonetheless

Idles finished. I made an edit or two since this but this is the general idea. It isn't perfect, but i think it'll do

Dash collision sprite done. Also tweaked some system stuff related to the Focus Attack, namely that dash cancelling from it now uses the EXPLOD buffering method instead of Mugens default command parsing
EDIT: I updated it (drew his other arm, forgot to do so before) And i know the dash collision is a bit buggy, i assume its an EXPLO issue, alng with the fact he can't win as he freezes. This is due to him not possessing a grab yet

Haven't done any sort of palette making in what seems to be over 2 years now, I decided to throw these two together cause I was bored and had some spare time on my hands. Based off that Bardock Movie Special a few years back.

Standing turn anim WIP
Been working on Snake Way a lot more recently, so progress has slowed. Make no mistake though, progress is indeed being made :)
PS: @Realra, could you possibly name those palletes? It'd help a lot since i'll be honest, i put them in the place i put submitted palletes, and got confused which were yours XD

Your progress looks amazing and I hope for the best with your project
Do you have a plan with what his moveset or his general playstyle will be? (Like going super saiyan or if he's more projectile or combo focused)

If you enjoy characters like Ryo from KOF, Butt from Garou and Ryu from SF3, then you'll like Bardock as i have him planned. Can't reveal too much yet though, wheres the fun in that ;)

Some small updates, first off his Dash Collision sprite is actually finished


Second, since i started doing this


I can not only get some much needed coding practice, but i can iron out HDBZ System stuff to be just how i want, and basically import then straight in to Bardock when complete, like for instance, Bardock has most of the required HDBZ Chaining and normals, including crouching and air normals, as well as stuff like Z Counters (bit buggy atm). I chose Goku Black because i shouldn't need to worry about sprites too much, plus some people may like it. In regards to Realras palletes, i'll just label them as "Custom" until told otherwise XD

Ahem... Sorry for being that one annoying guy, but the pixel behind him isn't supposed to be there is it? :)

Looks good, but the face looks a bit doopy.
The mouth looks a little to big and the eyes looks smeared for some reason.

I'll keep an eye on any further updates.  Good luck ;)

Don't apologise! Thank you for the criticism, i wasn't entirely confident in the face either but i can see what you mean. Hopefully this fixes it

Looks a way better, but the mouth is still a bit too big. Try making him look a bit more like he's growling, instead of this big ol' smile. ;)

Been a while, but i promise progress is being made! Turning Anim is mostly complete, an his big portrait has been adjusted a bit, same as Dash Collision. On top of that, Goku Black has some coding stuff done, so Bardock is slowly but surely receiving a good jumping off point in regards to coding. Also made some concept art for various anims. I apologise for the lack of updates, things in life have gotten a bit hectic, but i really do hope to make some progress. Bardock isn't dead, nor will die! (ignore that he is canonically dead)

Also feel it only right to show the stuff. Admittedly at the time i held back due to wanting to get back to them + laziness, but i realised that my access to internet being so inconsistent that i straight up can't do that. I apologise and will update whenever i can now





Also, coding Black is going nice, with most of the HDBZ system stuff completed, just need to do throw techs.

Plus i think some hit states were updated in 4.2b iirc, i will adjust accordingly

IMPORTANT!!!

I finished implementing Z Counters in to Black, and imported the code in to Bardock. He seems to sort of pause the screen momentarily, allowing you to counter with normals. This is a glitch, but the more i look at it the more i like it. I kinda want to keep this, but i understand that this could be REALLY strong. I'd sincerely like to hear input on this, how should it be tweaked? Should it stay at all? While this is my character, ultimately its ya'll who'll play him XD

A small update. First off

This is his ACTUAL finalised pallete template. The eyes were separated from the teeth, and additional shades were added for the inside of his mouth. But don't fret! I went ahead and applied this change to every pallete submitted thus far as well as ones i made (theres 41 palletes if you include his template sweet buttery jesus thanks)
On top of that, power charge is coming along nicely but is still pretty early, working on get hits, and sketched a new animation (hint, people on Discord suggested it to me ages ago, and i liked it so much i decided to straight up do it)

Ok, first off
Its been 6 weeks. I am very sorry, i just sorta lost track of time, had a lot on my plate
Second, that doesn't mean Bardock is dead, or that i haven't been working on him at all! In fact, theres a lot of unfinished stuff done for him, and after Black is out and my drawing tablet arrives, progress will get ludicrously faster. That being said, what i've done

Practised coding with Black, but after doing so, realised coding and spriting Bardock simultaneously would take way too long, i will hopefully have found someone by the time he has more stuff. Beta is here

Second, revamping a lot

Was given a lot of feedback for the idle, including some tips, and i've taken them to heart. This thing won't be animated for ages yet,  want to do that last (as suggested by HDBZ Discord members)
Also redoing his old sprites to fit the new one, Stand Turning has been redone, and Dash collision is nearly there

Thirdly, have a lot of WIP stuff. Too early to show, but these include
-All standing normals
-Neutral jump
-Stand to Crouching
-Stand blocking
-Stand get hits
among others

Lastly, another thank you to everyone who submitted palletes, its once again appreciated. Bardock probably won't get a barrage of updates for a little bit yet, but make no mistake He is nowhere near dead, and i intend to get a lot of work done in the coming months. Have a good one

MS Paint. I still use that but animating and such using a Tablet and Photoshop is personally proving to be DRASTICALLY easier. I mainly use MS Paint for sprite cleanup now since its simple and does what i need it to do quickly and easily

Shameless plug aside, i have been meaning to return to this in a big way for a while now, and now feel completely confident in saying this project isn't dead!!! Annnd we back. Fairly chunky update actually
His air gethits are now completed, along with Twist KO,  adjusted the proportions of some frames to be more consistent and completed shocked+shocked FX
He's also fairly functional as a punching bag (see link below :p)

On top of that, became a patreon of Balthazer a while back, and the reward was this keyframe from DBFZ for him (definitely being CR.HP)

Counting this, that's 68 frames so far. Might be able to start talking about actual attacks soon! Next up on the chopping block is up type knockup, then getting up. Ragby suggested i make his cursed form one of these dudes from the Episode of Bardock, so that'll be fun

Stopped putting this off an finished his Standing L;ight Punch. Like it well enough but may tweak it later. What's important is it's practically finished

A flip anim is in a couple Z2 characters, ans seems pretty useful/easy to add. So, SPEEN

Been a while but back to some stuff
Flipping was done a while back, and just finished Neutral jump. Not sure what i'll do now but hey, chipping away


Will definitely touch these up later but for now they get the job done

So hey, this guy is not dead!
Been working on him on and off (a lot of off if i'm honest) for a while now, so there's much more done for him now than what's in the thread. He's a fully hittable dummy, he has block sprites, Standing Punches are done and he has a CR_LP and CR_LK. Just today his forward dash was completed! Think i finally have a process i'm comfortable with so can much more confidently say he'll be updated more frequently now in between Broly stuff
