  • I swear I've been working on Geese all this time.
  • Kind of POTS style editor, except not really.
So, before i say anything else, i would just like to say that i'm not a very good coder, nor am i a hardcore fighting game player.
These edits are basically stuff i've been working on in my spare time (with a lot of help, of course),
So i ask that you please understand when i say that i honestly can't promise that any of my characters will be high quality & incredibly accurate to the source material, & that i cannot promise a super consistent update/bugfix schedule.

With that being said, i hope you enjoy what i do manage to put together out of these edits, & i appreciate/welcome any feedback.

Anyways:

Another update for Geese is coming fairly soon.
In the meantime, i have a question:
Which would be a better animaion to use for Raigou Reppuken
(the projectile super from XIV?)
The small RB1/KOFXIV style Reppukens, or the big RBS/Nightmare style Reppukens?

Ah, alright. I probably should try a poll & see what everybody thinks.

In that case, maybe i'll try & see if i can replace the Normal Reppuken sprites with the smaller Reppuken sprites, like the ones Rugal or Rock Howard have.

Alright, putting on the finishing touches for Geese's next update.

In the meantime, a question for the community:

Does anybody have any suggestions on what character i could try & edit next?

I was thinking about editing Jmorph's Kim Kaphwan, now that you mention Kim.

Although, and correct me if i'm wrong, but aren't most of ShinRei's characters private?

I suppose i could, but truth be told, i consider that to be very low priority compared to everything else.

So, an update: I finally figured out how to get Max Mode working for Geese.
Now i just need to change every single one of his attack states to get rid of the Custom Combo properties.
Which is probably going to take a while.

While i'm working on that in the meantime, i'll probably mess around with some other stuff, like changing Geese's character select/victory screen portraits.

Quick update:
It's looking likely that i'm probably going to disable/remove the 98UM style animation from the Level 1 Raging Storm,
because i'm having issues trying to get it to only do one hit.

It will be replaced by ether the CVS one, or a downgraded RBS one.

This sounds pretty good I'll definitely be giving him a shot, if you are looking for suggestions since I saw you were a while back above, I'd like to see your edits on Koldskools characters, he's got some characters that I do think have some potential like Zabel, Ironman, Spiderman or Angel. Anyhow I'll be trying out this Geese, looking forward to playing the finished version, good luck on this project!

Hm... I don't really play a whole lot of those characters, but i could probably see what i can do.
Thanks for the suggestion.

By the way, everyone, i am still chipping away at Geese, i've just sort been going at my own pace with it.
I've been using DivineWolf's Kung Fu Man as a template for system changes & other stuff i'd like to do.
I might end up releasing another beta soon. I do need to replace the one that's in my OneDrive,
since it's pretty outdated. I'll probably share some of my proposed system changes fairly soon-ish.

In all seriousness, i'm not really too fond of Custom Combo as a mechanic.
It just doesn't really appeal to me, as it seems a bit too spammy for my tastes.
I always liked stuff like Max Mode a lot more, so that's what i think i'll stick with for right now.

I really need to start updating more consisting/better.

In any case, i have been working on the Geese edit.
A lot. Probably for far too long.
It’s just that i’ve had other stuff to do whilst i’ve been updating.
But an updated beta’s coming soon,
& i'll try to make sure it's as worthwhile as i possibly can.

And I finally updated the OneDrive Beta link!
...Though there's still a ton of work i still need to do on him.
I just decided to release the beta early since i felt i've kept everyone waiting for an update long enough.
More updates to come, enjoy the updated beta, please send feedback, & Happy Holidays. =)

...Oh wow, it's really been 2 months since i updated this, haven't i? =/
I really need to update on a more consistent schedule...

Anyways, update:
Geese is still being worked on.
...But i'm probably going to have to kind of slow development on the edit for a while,
since i've been really busy with other stuff lately.

I've also been thinking about redoing the fighting system i had in mind for him,
though it won't be too much different from the style i posted in my mugen concept thread.
I'll post a revised version when i remember/get the chance.

In particular, i was thinking about having the Blowback Attack/Guard Cancel Counter cause a wall splat,
like the Blowback Attacks in KOF XIV.
And i was also kind of thinking about adding V-Shift & it's follow up attacks
from the recent update of Street Fighter V as a Guard Cancel Dodge.

I haven't really finalized anything, though.

Oh hey, i'm finally updating this thread again.
Long story short, i've been really busy with other stuff,
so i haven't really been able to consistently work on Mugen stuff.
But i've started this sound patch for OSHMBY's Kirby
that adds more sounds from his respective series
& i wanted to release it.

There's not really a whole lot of sounds to it (namely just KO sounds so far),
and i know i should probably wait until OSHMBY updates all their characters
with the new mechanics & stuff to release it- & i will update the patch to accommodate it, i swear-
...but i felt that i've kept everyone waiting long enough, so here it is. Enjoy:

https://1drv.ms/u/s!AlqQxXVgSY0UkTlhOe3v4mBZBoOM

(Also, the Kirby 64 one is sped up like that since i didn't want to drag out the KO animation,
so i just sped up the jingle instead.)

Still working on him.
He's coming along okay,
i just need to add 2002 UM/SVC Chaos Shippuken,
XIV Raging Storm,
& double check balancing & stuff.

Not sure when i'll be able to have an update ready.

"Oh, baloney. It is such hard work being a horrible Goose." - Caddicarus

Alright, so here's where things currently stand:

I have been still working on Geese a lot,
it's just that i haven't really been posting progress specifically on the forums.

My current plan for him is to have 3 modes: KOF Geese (96/98UM/XI), Fatal Fury (Real Bout/Wild Ambition), & EX Geese (both of 98UM & 2002 UM's EX/Nightmare modes, though the 2002 UM stuff will be heavily toned down because i am a big supporter of not overpowered boss forms).

I have been working sporadically on his moves, most recently making his Rashomon more like how it is in SVC Match of the Millennium,
such as adding a kick to the start of the normal version, & making the throw part of both versions do an extra hit for better damage dampening.

I also have a tentative gameplay system in mind that i'll probably implement a little bit of in the next update.
My plan is to give Max Mode enhanced system related stuff, such as a Knockdown attack that wall splats like in KOF XIV
& a Guard Cancel variant of the spot dodge, though most of this is subject to change.
Despite this, it'll probably be a bit more restricted compared to regular POTS style.
Like you won't be able to have as much resources at your disposal & be able to save as much meter at one time, i mean.

Also, the Kirby sound patch is still a thing, & I have what i need to finish it,
i just haven't really been able to get around to it yet, though i will eventually.

And as for the Kim Bros. as posted above...
I actually don't think i've tried them out yet,
I do kind of want to try doing them, but considering ShinRei doesn't really have the greatest track record,
I might use some other version of them or Kim as the base instead.

i'll be more then happy to see a full release. i love playing Geese because Raging Storm is for me thr hardest super to execute.

i played beta version and i'm very considered with seeing all modes in this Geese. Take your time making your Geese. Mayby next little update to hear or to see would be nice but i'm patient guy nowadays.

I'm planning on releasing a better beta soon. The hold up's namely me trying to fix as many little issues with Geese right now as possible.
I think you'll be able to expect it before too long, though.

Oh hey, I forgot to post in this forum for like 3 months.
...I really need to do a better job at that. =/
So... Anyways, I have been working sporadically on Geese, it's just that I have been really super busy that you would not believe.

That, and I also started like 10 other edits without finishing this one yet first, which isn't really something I should probably be doing.
Basically, I've been trying to rethink & finalize movesets for each of Geese's 3 normal modes, as well as figuring out what I'd want to do for a Nightmare/Boss mode.
I thought about giving Nightmare mode its own mechanics separate from the regular modes, but that'll depend on how well I can implement them without overcomplicating things.

I've already had to scrap/rework a couple of mechanics already, such as my previously planned Max Excel mechanic.
That said, I have been making lots of progress on him, and I hope to share an updated version soon.

Oh look, I forgot to update the thread in like months again. =x

But I swear, Geese is coming along well (I think), it's just that again, I've been busy with work.

In any case, I made a poll about what 3 main attack buttons I should use. Be sure to vote if you can.

Also about the poll that was here earlier about which Reppukens I should use for the Normal & Raigou versions:
I'm going to use the small ones for both the Normal & Raigou versions for Real Bout mode, since that's how's it done in the source.
(Granted the source is KOF XIV/XV, but you get what I mean)

I know some might not be super enthusiastic about me changing the button layout & how moves work & what not, but at the same time, and I believe I mentioned this before, I want to try & do things differently than most creators, as to make myself stand apart a bit more with my edits & not just seem like I'm just changing a few things around & calling it a day.

I'm also going to change the FX around on Geese, such as the hitsparks & energy ball during the superpause (& possibly the FX to some of the moves, too), namely because I think the sparks are becoming sort of overused, and the energy ball makes it hard to tell what's going on during the super.

Do you mean to Geese?
Hm... Maybe I removed it from my OneDrive by accident. My bad.
Still, that was a pretty outdated edit that was going to be replaced anyway.
I'll probably post a replacement later tonight or tomorrow.

Also I need to update the images, and get one of Geese's stages to make them look more high quality.

STATUS REPORT: 2023 EDITION

…Yep.

So long story short, I’m still chipping away at my edit of POTS Geese, I’ve just been juggling a ton of other stuff over the past-

*checks notes*

…3 years.

How the fu-

Anyway, I know all things considered, I should have released 2 or 3 updated betas by now, but I didn’t really want to do that since I didn’t really want to release something I knew was incredibly unfinished because I’ve always felt that’d make me look like a tool if people found stuff that would seem like obvious fixes & I also need to remember to keep updating the beta to fix stuff, but then I’d forget about it after a while because I’m working on other stuff, etc.

I think since I’ve been working on him for so long, I might just share an unfinished beta on OneDrive anyway, but for right now, I want to do some more work on him first.

“But what are you even adding/changing to him?”

In a word, EVERYTHING.
…Ok, not everything, but a lot:

-Trying to make moves function more like KOF (Rashomon being a true command grab, for example)
-Redoing the button arrangement, changing  system mechanics, & new input motions
-EX Mode (& maybe a Nightmare Mode, but I’m not sure what to do with that conceptually yet)
-Making ES Moves & Supers cost more & have stricter requirements
-More voiceclips & intros/outros (in hindsight I probably should have saved this for last, but too late now)
-Learning how to do frankenspritng for some missing animations (though this’ll probably actually be for last)
-Changing sounds & FX to be less POTS/Infinite/CVS3/whatever & more (kind of) “my own thing” (quotation marks since they’d still be lifted/rearranged from other creators)

Essentially, making it more than just me changing a few things & calling it an edit.
Namely because I feel like if I’m going to edit something, I’d want to make it more unique & stand out from the original as much as possible, when feasible, rather than just giving Geese like multi colored hitsparks or cranking up his starts to try & make him seem more like an “epic boss” or whatever.

I do think I’ll eventually try & figure out how to get the multi colored sparks working, but that’s very low priority to everything else right now.

Anyways, just wanted to give an update on where things stand right now.
I’ll do my best to make him worth the wait. Have a great night, everybody. ^~^

TL;DR: Geese is taking way too long because I’m changing way too much, & also because real life comes first.
