I am not sure if anyone cares but:iplaywinner said:Andria Sang posted up some information on a new 2D fighter coming to the XBOX360 called Phantom Breaker, developed by 5pb. Though not many details are known at this time, it's said the game is to have "simple controls" with the gameplay system including both a "Burst and Tension Gauge". Sounds like they could be taking a page out of BlazBlue gameplay system, but we'll have to wait and see! There is a Famitsu scan which you can check out below that apparently contains more information about the game. Once more details surface we will be sure to post them up!Thanks to Nite for sending in this tip!Phantom Breaker Official WebsiteOriginal Phantom Breaker Reveal from July
As I said on MI, looks like another cookie cutter animu inspired fighting game attempted to ride the Arcsys bandwagon.Nothing to see here, move along.

Can't really say much because there are no gameplay videos, so thus, I do not have an opinion yet.The character designs are not original at all, but there's a small chance it could be good as a fighting game. I just want to see some gameplay videos to get a better idea of what this game will play like. Thats all.

If there is even a story, I am going to assume that girl in goth lolita clothing is the Phantom Breaker, or the sword is the Phantom Breaker. We have...Gothic Loli with SwordBarehanded Bishounen with some sort of glove or brace on his hand or somethingMaidFrom what I can make out in the famitsu scans, there is a girl in brown holding a gun.Pink lolita styled loli with magic staffAnother gothic loli, only with blonde hair and a club made of gems or somethingA girl in a tuxA mikoDon't forget that Blazblue's character design wasn't all too original either, but it was a good fighting game with an even better story.
What are you talking about? BB's character designs were awesome and had tons of personality. All of these guys look like generic NPCs from some JRPG.

The sad thing is that no matter how mediocre, unoriginal or bland this game is it is going to be mildly succesful.

This is going to be as popular as Arcana Heart.Once it comes out someone crack it and get me the effects.
Just from the screens I can tell how this is gonna play. Hur hur air dash, burst, air combos, typical of this type of game, cramming a bunch of other mechanics in. God what happened to the days where you just had a handful of dudes from all over the world pummeling each other in a tournament?

Those people added a combo counter and everyone else said, "How can we make that number thing on the screen go higher?" And they did. Its all Capcom's fault for making every combo based and stupid little mechanics game come to life.

The only characters that seem intriguing is Mikoto and Yuzuha. If you don't know who they are I suggest you look at the screenies for romanized names.

You can have the fanciest costume in the world, your design still sucks if your movelist consists of Hurricane Kick Fireball and Dragon Punch.
Yay, another shitty animu lolicon game with a wimpy looking girly bishounen protagonist, crappy art, and screen filling effects, that will probably be tacked along with your typical shitty doujin gameplay mechanics.Just like every other 2D sprite based fighting game to come out of Japan in the last 5 years that wasn't made by SNK, with the exception of the last few Power Instinct installments.

I wouldn't consider Ragna to be girly or bishie... the only one who fits that profile is Jin and he's an insane jerkass.

Some more news for the up-and-coming Phantom Breaker has surfaced.http://iplaywinner.com/news/2011/4/21/new-phantom-breaker-trailer-video-release-date.html
Game feels really boring. I mean, their moves don't really atract me, they feel really weak and slow. And they're not that amazing, feels like some normal moves stuck together to form a super in the majority of characters. I don't think it will be successful after seeing that video. Too bad, I really like characters that use pile bunkers, and one of them had that.
This really reminds me of the 90s. SF2 showed up, then a gazillion uglier, dumber clones obviously made after it.
It might end up with these undiscovered, but very good ones. Are they all SFII clones? You decide:http://www.racketboy.com/retro/fighting/2010/04/the-best-undiscovered-2d-fighters.html

You decide:http://www.racketboy.com/retro/fighting/2010/04/the-best-undiscovered-2d-fighters.htmlQuite a great article there! I certainly didn't mean to say all fighting games in the 90s were ugly SF2 clones. Just that I remember going to the arcade and seeing a ton of those; there was a huge amount of crappy SF2 wannabees, which didn't actually add a lot to the gameplay but were just part of the era. Maybe the same thing is happening here.

Maybe the same thing is happening here. They are more than just imitators, they're innovators. The Street Fighter series are, too. They feature some ideas that are unique and some ideas that have been done before in Konami's Yie Ar Kung-Fu and these other pre-SFII fighting games. When Video System created Tao Taido, they focused on unique ideas more than good gameplay, but it didn't become successful enough.Fighter's History is the opposite of Tao Taido. While it doesn't feature many unique ideas other than the "weak point system", its gameplay made it become successful enough to not only be sued by Capcom, but to also have some sequels.
I dunno, this game has always looked pretty meh to me and I haven't changed that opinion.I probably will try it if I get the chance anyway.
Doubt anyone cares.http://www.capsulecomputers.asia/2012/09/phantom-breaker-cancelled-according-to-gamestop/
I even forgot about this game. But wow, wasn't this game pretty far in development? Sucks for everyone that was waiting on it.
Kind of odd how right under this article, there was one saying the exact opposite. Maybe it's something different, I dunno.
That one is from a earlier date before Gamestop started to call people with preorders and say the game got cancelled and since 7sixty seems to have dropped off the face of the earth no one knows if it really is or not.
Maybe this should of got a new thread since this seems to be a sequel but i don't know doesn't seem like anyone cares enough for it to.http://www.siliconera.com/2013/08/26/phantom-breaker-extra-trailer-debuts-the-games-new-characters-in-action/QuotePhantom Breaker: Extra is an updated version of Phantom Breaker, featuring enhanced graphical effects, new characters and stages. Mages shared a new trailer for the fighting game today, and you can check it out below: Phantom Breaker: Extra will feature newcomers like Sophia, Shizuka, and Gaito & Rin, as well as Kurisu Makise from Steins;Gate and Rimi Sakihata from Chaos;Head, two of Mages’ popular visual novels. Phantom Breaker: Extra is slated for release on September 19 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
I think talk of Phantom Breaker Extra can stay here given that Phantom Breaker was never released IIRC. Granted if it was I may redact this statement but....
Did the original even got released outside of Japan?I know US was meant to get it on 360, but I don't think we ever actually got it.
My sentiments exactly. Seems like an update to an unreleased game so until further confirmation I'll leave this thread as is.
In case you're one of the few people like me who care about the spin off.http://www.siliconera.com/2014/01/27/phantom-breaker-battle-grounds-getting-characters-new-mode-dlc/Not much new info with the main game however.
I do because I bought it last week or so for 5$. the DLC is way over priced though and I'm sure this will be no different.
I wish they released the actual fighter outside of Japan.I would like to get another chance at playing it and figuring out how the fuck the clashing system works.
vgma2 said, July 06, 2014, 11:30:18 PMAlso, a chance that Extra might be localized. They haven't announced that they're localizing Extra yet. They're still gauging interest.
S.D. you're hilarious. Tell me more, won't you? Anyways, some folks have been streaming online play from the Japanese PS3 version to show interest for 5pb's facebook page letting them know people are interested in having Phantom Breaker: Extra come to America. The game is fun and doesn't require the normal button inputs similar to your Capcom and SNK fighters. Even beginners who are new to the series won't have much difficulty getting into it.
I can tell you that if you think that Phantom Breaker is a good game then your quality standards have to be extremely low
Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds Overdrive for PS4 is coming to NA this summer.QuoteThis is an enhanced version of their beat ‘em up with more enemies on the screen, new skills, and new items made exclusively for PlayStation 4.Maybe the steam version will get these upgrades as well?No word on Frau or the two Schrödinger girls yet.EDIT: A more detailed article.
For Steam owners of Battlegrounds, online mode beta has launched. Also, be on the look out for the Kemonomimi Costume DLC that will be free for it's first month of release.
This series is still alive.Phantom Breaker Omnia will be released in 2021. This is the first time the mainline fighting game is coming to the west for real this time. Extra style has been replaced by Omnia style. Two new (currently unrevealed) characters will be added to the game. We're also getting an English dub, with some big names in the cast. It will be releasing on PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and Steam. Limited physical editions will also be released for PS4 and Switch.Another article link that shows gameplay and a trailer. Steam pageI'm honestly astonished this is happening.
Well, it's always good to see new fighting games coming out. Looks pretty cool, though a bit generic.
