Although Street Fighter 6 occurs after the Street Fighter III series, Ryu still feels that he's "not there yet" - though he seems to have gained some dignity. The way he wears the kasaya (Buddhist robe) is reminiscent of his master, Gouken

Timeline confirmed after SF3.

Someone tell Luke that "hates horror games" is something that's gonna get you fired if you work for Cap "We make Resident Evil" Com.

Ironically, that was true for both of the directors of the first two games (Mikami for 1 and Kamiya for 2). Mikami was even specifically chosen because he was a scaredy cat!

And neither of them work for Capcom any more.

Flawless logic!

First glimpse of the new versus screen and they went all out on its presentation.

You can also give your chosen fighter different facial expressions before the match starts akin to Soul Calibur 2.
I love this. It's like a wrestling game. One aspect of "Street Fighter" I always felt was lacking most of the time is them looking like actual "street fights". Having these intros is a step in the right direction (of course not every stage will have people cheering).

Also I don't think I've seen this comment yet, but I think the graphics are also aiming to win over some Namco fans.

I really dislike the art direction the game went with, it looks more like a Western made spin-off like FF Streetwise instead of a proper SF.

Looks proper SF to me, but the UI and HUD look really rough. Hopefully it improves. SFV's launch UI was bad too.

How does it not look like a "proper SF"? What is a "proper SF"?

The "look of a proper SF" is obviously the look that it has used in all previous games, like 2, Alpha, 3, 4, and 5. It has always had a cartoonish / anime look, whether it uses drawn sprites or 3D models. Bamco is the one using Unreal Engine for hyper realistic models, even SF4/5 that use a previous Unreal Engine still made the faces very cartoonishly deformable, with definitely cartoonish proportion and hands / feet upscale on attacks for dramatic effect (think Pocket Fighters, SF4 and 5 still do it). It's a Street Fighter staple.
The outfits also have a lot more "loose hanging cloth / straps" that is very Soul Calibur-ish in design, compared to the stereotypical uniform that everyone has in previous titles - gym uniforms, school uniforms, martial arts uniforms or whatever, it's always clean and stereotypical straight-off-the-shelf without much tear and loose hanging threads. Beside alt / special outfits anyway, for most of the characters.

So, its a bunch of unnecessary nitpicking for no reason, then?

Yeah, being unhappy with the visual identity of the game is just nitpicking, god forbid people having different opinions.

Yeah that departure will definitely turn some people off. I'm surprised I like it as much as I do, to be honest. It probably helps that they nailed Ryu's model.

Really ? When it's the up close view it's okay, but I keep thinking the regular side view he looks very unfinished, like his cheeks are flat and sharp like some random Souls-like western RPG. Basically like it's the first time they're using realistic setting on an advanced Unreal Engine and there's no volume inside the models. I'm hoping we see progress just like when we had a first draft for MvCI and SF5 that were visibly improved soon enough.
It seems also very clear that they've put a lot more work into Luke and Jamie than they did Ryu and Chun-Li, because the new guys don't have that at all.

Now that you mention it, they do look more finished. But in terms of bone structure and such, that's definitely Ryu. Chun-Li on the other hand feels a bit different. Given her history since the early versions of SF4 that must be the hardest model to nail...

The model I liked the most till now is Ken even if I don't like the gym dad costume. Chun-li model though, they kept the thighs proportion from SFV but not the rest of the musculature so she looks like a turkey.
