Do they? I'm not a fan of plain white backgrounds, and that's all I seem to find when it comes to usable images. And by "big ports", I assume you mean the 9000,1 file?
I personally prefer having the transparent background over a white background, I feel it clashes more, if it has a good background already then I leave it alone for the most part.
Oh yeah...I could go and make/find my own backgrounds for them. How positively stupid of me And that's both the monitor portrait and the vs portrait I take it, or just the vs portrait (sorry, just making sure I've got this 100%).
It's not a legitimate error, it's mostly just preference. But yeah, for both I'd say. I usually don't use renders unless I'm making the 9000,0/9000,35 ports.
Eh, all I could find were official artworks/renders with white/transparent backgrounds or horrible fan-art. Trust me, Falcon was a pain to do.What I'll do is make additional ones with backgrounds for those who want them (they'll be labelled with _B)
Color loss is a jerk sometimes. Did a port set for Neocides Gohan: Spoiler, click to toggle visibiltySpoiler, click to toggle visibiltySpoiler, click to toggle visibiltyDownload.I'll be willing to do some requests, just list out a bunch of characters you'd like to see and I'll put them on my to-do-list.
And with that, I add my previous portraits, but now with backgrounds if they didn't already have them (the transparent ones are still available BTW).PikachuSpoiler: 9000,1 (click to see content)Spoiler: Super-cutesy-cuddly-version (click to see content)BowserSpoiler: 9000,1 (click to see content)HYESZ ManSpoiler: 9000,1 (click to see content)The links are all the exact same because MediaFire finally fixed that replacing issue, but for the sake of convenience:PikachuBowserKnee of JusticeI'm sure you already know this, but if you draw a selection box around a specific area of an image and then index the image, that area loses less colour, though other areas lose more.

You can set your colors in gimp before indexing/converting to avoid this issue.
They don't even have to be .pcx. They can be indexed .pngs.I get the feeling you're not indexing them. If an image in non-indexed, then the transparency colour is pure black by default when inserted into Fighter Factory.
I followed your tutorial but when i indexe the pics they end up looking orible!Spoiler, click to toggle visibiltyi don't know what im doing wrong
Pachi said, September 08, 2013, 07:41:16 pmWhen you Index an image, all of the colors get reduced to 256.When Indexing, colors get massively reduced. (Depends on the art)You're doing it right. Don't worry about it, the quality won't be that noticeable mainly because there is a glow flashing overlay on the VS screen. It'll be barely noticeable. Also, don't forget to crop your sprites!
Okay i followed the tutorial and did some portsIoriSpoiler, click to toggle visibilty1.1K'Spoiler, click to toggle visibilty1.1KimSpoiler, click to toggle visibilty1.1KenSpoiler, click to toggle visibilty1.1https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=206E0A5A5A47289D&id=206E0A5A5A47289D%21133
Good job, man! There's some white around your renders still, they could be cleaned up a bit. After a few more times it'll be easy as pie.
