M.U.taG.E.N [download](Warning: requires .NET Framework to launch)Current version: 2.2Official trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVXt4I4nR40DescriptionMUtaGEN lets you create insane glitchy mutants in your MUGEN roster, creating them from your fighters (take a look at trailer for example).Actually, it works very simple. It replaces character's *.sff and *.air files (sprites and animation) with corresponding files of other character. Also it can automatically include resulting fighter in your roster, and also scale and name it!All this causes these "mutated" fighters to perform the other fighters' moves in the way you've never seen. If you find madness & glitches fun - try MUtaGEN!I appreciate any comments and especially improvement advices - what you will see in newer versions, depends on your opinion.Sort of FAQ.Current plans:Make an option for keeping the original pallette.Implement new fighter's display name changing(Done in Version 2)Do either conversion of "non-mutable" fighters to "mutable" or support of filenames differing from folder name(Done in Version 2)Version historyVersion 1IT HAS BEGUN!Version 2Compatibility with all charactersScaling is now available"Name" option now actually changes the display nameVersion 2.1Bugfix: No more crash when no *.cns file is specified.Buxfix: No more crash if "displayname" in *.def file is written in different letter caseVersion 2.2Version 2.1 was crashing into .NET Framework exception for ANY possible reason. This was because v2 and v2.1 were not checking for all files on start.[/list]
Mr. Scruffy Detective said, January 15, 2009, 04:55:03 PMSo basically it completely destroys a character. Huh....sounds fun
Well, I'd not say "destroy". Destroyed character can't do funny things. For example, destroyed May won't transform into an anchor in attempt to do a fatality

Cadia said, January 15, 2009, 09:31:03 PMNo, he means that it screws up the charactersI understood. But "screw up" describes it much more correct than "destroy". So I showed an example for people to understand how fun can the "screwed up" chars can be.necro_rk said, January 15, 2009, 08:42:29 PM Interesting....Thanks!Thanks for attention! Oh yay, something for spriteswappers to abuse, amirite?Still, this does look, how should I say, entertaining? Probably a good way to kill time when we all get bored of the usual.
vgmaster2.0 said, January 16, 2009, 12:25:00 AMlol, does it do any pernement damege though?if you make a copy of the file then no
RicePigeon said, January 15, 2009, 11:10:15 PMOh yay, something for spriteswappers to abuse, am I right?Fixed. If I were a mod you'd be warned for that.
Ability to use built-in one color palettes which have all 256 colors to be the same color would be handy too OR to use the palettes that go with the SFF if it isn't already included. It's like Mugen: Rainbow Edition.Being able to set the X-scale and Y-scale would be interesting.
Important answers from authorLuigi Master said, January 15, 2009, 10:47:50 PMLOL. Does it mean we can use this characters for regular MUGEN as well?Yes, because it is just a tool for regular MUGEN.vgmaster2.0 said, January 16, 2009, 12:25:00 AMlol, does it do any pernement damege though? No. MUtaGEN automatically creates a copy of fighter's folder and all files in it. Its name can be chosen by filling the "New MUGEtaNt name" field. But anyway, if you accidentally chose original fighter's folder as destination folder, old sprite files will have backup - they are named *.sff.bak and *.air.bak.MirageAtoli said, January 16, 2009, 03:55:45 AMAbility to use built-in one color palettes which have all 256 colors to be the same color would be handy too OR to use the palettes that go with the SFF if it isn't already included.I think I have to decline this idea or make this an optional feature. It depends on how many people will want it.I'll explain why. The fighters with original palletes won't look glitchy, so it's less fun.MirageAtoli said, January 16, 2009, 03:55:45 AMBeing able to set the X-scale and Y-scale would be interesting.Yeah, that idea is... oh, actually it's half-good. Because when you do a new MUGEtaNt for a first time, you can't know how his/her size will change For those who doesn't know how to change fighter's size manually:Open fighter's .cns file (the main one) with text editor and change the "xscale" and "yscale" values. Have fun! Thanks for all replies!
Actually since all it does is swap the SFF files, we could always correct that manually couldn't we? Yeah I know the point is moot since it does back backup copies, but whatever. Also someone didn't detect my little sarcasm in my last post it seems.
I did this with pots chars oncei remember rare dan MirageAtoli said, January 16, 2009, 03:55:45 AMIt's like Mugen: Rainbow Edition.

Yeah I know the point is moot since it does back backup copies, but whatever.Backups are really not the main feature. Application is focused on idea and automation of the process. If you would like to swap files manually and include new char in roster manually rather than doing it automatically in a few clicks, become an hero go ahead. No one forces you to use this app if you consider it pointless. Just don't start flame, OK?
I really enjoy this, even though not all the characters I have are compatible with it.Side-Note: Gardavior + Lelouch (from Code Geass)= giant black & white Gardevior with Lelouch's moves, lol.

Sorry for that I haven't done it yet.But at any moment, you can make your chars MUtaGEN-compatible manually:Go to your char's directoryRename the *.sff and *.air files so they coincide with the directory nameChange the "sprite" and "anim" values to new filenames in charactrer's *.def fileOnce again, please forgive my laziness. It is still version 1.
Actually, instead of copying the files to a new folder, you could create a new .def file that points to correct states, files, palettes etc.Silhouette fighters are kinda cool, at least Basara seems to think so, and I kinda agree. Having original palettes be optional would be kinda cool.

Sorry for looooooong delay, but anyway...Version 2 is released!New features:ALL characters are now compatible with M.U.taG.E.NScaling option addedYou can now set display name for your MUGEtaNtI updated the first post, and the download link is still the same.Well, now it's your turn - tell me your suggestions, questions, bug reports, anything funny you created with my tool and anything you wanna say about M.U.taG.E.N!MirageAtoli suggested an option for using original palletes. I think I can include this in version 3. But ver.3 will only appear if you're interested in it. So, I'm waiting for feedback! Thanks!
Green Lantern Yuki said, September 28, 2009, 10:11:56 PMExcellent you update this program Downloading now Thank you. Thanks. Yeah, I have to agree, but there is still a percent of mixes that turn out hilarious :3
I'm getting throw state and hadoken errors from my Don Drago Ken/Ryu mash-ups. Shame, because the switch is funny as hell.I'm confused why those simple changes screws it all up, though. I didn't realise coding was responsible for so much.
Pretty cool program However, I found some characters just can't be mixed up, I get some Netframework error of some sort.
Axel Gear said, September 28, 2009, 11:22:04 PMPretty cool program However, I found some characters just can't be mixed up, I get some Netframework error of some sort. Thanks Try mixing those after restarting the program...Geez, shame on me I'm feeling like I rushed this release a bit... Though it's still not too late to make version 2.2... Gotta put real effort in fixing the bugs... Exceptions are no good... Well, version 2.1 is pretty usable anyway, isn't it?
Version 2.2 released! No exceptions and errors now, try it! Same download link is also in first post, alongside with updated version history.By the way, I very recommend to use GCNMario's Master Hand to use as a moves' source character, the results seem to be both hilarious and usable
This would be more fun if the abortions I made were funnier. Best I got are Hadoukens that hit the opponent, made them stand in the air, and then fall down.
i always tried to make the copies of my mugen rooster insanely hard or just fighting different in fighter factory, so for people like me this is a godsend for enjoyment! i love you

I was wondering if you could add a switch around feature. That way if your creating a character with one's moves and second's sprites and animations, you could simply switch them around with a button instead of using the drop down list.Sorry that might sound a bit confusing.

OK, I'll possibly include this in version 3.
I combined Judgespear's Homer Simpson with Peter Griffin and came up with a future actarus character!
