Kohga is the same but there is another Yiga commander and a new character with the Gerudo emblem on his robes

And the video clip spawned a meme:

"He's gonna kill you all to death!"

vs

"People die when they are killed!"

Part 3, quick weapon demo and Champions using runes. And a flying formation. Plus Hestu.
edit - what I thought was a one-handed axe is a boomerang that circles around and back to his hand. He'll have a whole style based on the boomerang... ? Or will it be the one-handed sword moveset and that specific weapon has a unique move ?

Only Nintendo could ruin a long awaited English release of an older game
by doing yet another of their blatantly anti-consumer limited time "only available until March 2021" shticks.

Oh, and the physical release is just a box with a one time use download code & some other collectables in it.

Granted, it's $6, so I'll probably get it anyway in order to have an optimized & translated port on my Switch,
but this is yet another reason why i still wish Nintendo was still in it's phase where the Wii U was doing so poorly in sales,
that Ubisoft would rather delay Rayman Legends for several months in order to go multi-platform,
rather than have it be stuck on a system most consumers didn't care about.
And that one was one of the few 3rd party games that didn't just skip it entirely.

If this is how low Nintendo will sink to manipulate consumers for the sake of a pathetic & desperate cash-grab,
I don't want to buy any 1st party games from Nintendo for the Switch anymore.

And this is coming from someone who's not even that much of a Fire Emblem fan.

I mean I don't like Nintendo's recent (what appears to be a) trend of timed releases either but whatever, you basically contradict yourself.

Though this one seems a bit crappier, since it's a digital release no matter what version you get, so unlike Mario All-Stars there won't be physical releases floating around later that are still playable.

...Oh wow, i actually did contradict myself, did i? =/

Well, what i meant by getting it anyway was that i could at least get the game so that way i could keep it on me,
& maybe find a way to save the translation or something like that for archival purposes.

...Although then again, i'd imagine someone else is probably going to do that anyway,
so i guess maybe i shouldn't bother.

I don't know... i don't want to cut Nintendo out of my life for good,
as there are a lot of games they make that i'd love to get for my 3DS, Wii U, etc.

But they just seem so blatantly anti-consumer most of the time to me.
& to me, they also seem proud of it.
So much so that it honestly makes it hard for me to look forward to any games they have.

It's just really frustrating for me,
& it just makes me kind of want to try & stop supporting them anyway,
even though i doubt i could really stick to that for a significant period of time.

I've just been really burnt out & agitated at everything recently,
so i just decided to vent in the hopes that blowing off some steam would make me feel better.

Wait, I don't get it. You can only buy the game up to March 31, sure. But if you buy it, you keep it even beyond that date, right ? I don't understand some of the comments that seem to imply you lose the game.

I'm pretty sure you get to keep it after the cutoff date.
Same with the other games (except Super Mario 35 Battle Royale, i believe).
The problem isn't that buyers don't keep the games.
It's that that they are on a set time limit in order to buy it.

I guess the idea behind it could be "We need cashflow right now, keep the sale at full price and it will never devalue for due to later date Seasonal Sales"

It's frustrating on a consumer end, sure.  But at the same time given Nintendo's history of constantly re-releasing as many of its games as it can as many times as they can get away with, I don't feel like there's any reason to doubt that these games will be made available again eventually.

And to be perfectly honest when you look at all the scummy shit that comes out of every other major developer these days, with predatory gambling mechanics, lootboxes and microtransactions, "live service" rip-offs, and abusive crunch being forced on developers, then Nintendo trying to push a handful of inexpensive titles by appealing to FOMO is probably the least offensive thing happening in the industry right now.

Hey, it's as simple as "If you really like it, you can buy it now". They're risking a long term income, but betting everything on immediate cashflow.

Anybody is welcome to partake, or not. If I was told SNK is releasing "Metal Slug 2" for a limited time only, I'd probably go for it, but not for MS3

In most cases, that's true,
but they made Zelda Four Swords Anniversary Edition a limited time only game,
and it hasn't been available on the 3DS eShop since 2014.
So there's no guarantee it'll come back when it gets removed in March 2021
(assuming they actually stick with that cut off date).

I guess so, & it's not as bad as the other stuff Person Man mentioned,
but it's still not good, ether.

Hm...so, I have a habit of absolutely loathing approaching a series out of intended order, so if I'm to play a series I have to start at release number 1 (Reason why Final Fantasy was hell for a while and why I'm likely never gonna play those Persona games).  I am absolutely drained on these Fire Emblem pretty boys showing up in Smash, but in fairness I'd be inclined to see what the big deal is trying Marth's game out.  I've always heard that there's a fanbase split starting with the game that saved the franchise by intrinsically altering it, and Awakening onward is essentially a dating sim to softcore pornography game with a strategy game stapled to the side (Also something about Corrin's game having gay conversion therapy or whatever was in the news a while back).  Three Houses appears to be its own beast but I already browsed the spoilers and it does not sound particularly interesting either so I'd probably be more interested in these older titles, if anything wins me over at all.  But I'm also aware the Smash and fanbase interpretation of Marth and co. doesn't line up with the actual Fire Emblem character much and I'd likely hate everything everywhere like a discount Yahtzee, so there's that.

Now add on top of that this arbitrary limited time exclusivity for no apparent reason, I'm just feeling like skipping out on the whole mess.

FE1 is an insanely dated game, it's painful to play it in the 21st century.

If you care to know more about the franchise and don't want to start with Awakening I'd recommend the GBA games since they were the international debut of the franchise.

I mean, how insanely dated?  I still enjoy a go at Contra every now and then.  I'm about as nonplused as you can get at the permanent character losses; unless losing them soft locks the game then I think I'm not gonna care that much.  I'd imagine a character being killed off opens equally new branches of dialogue for the remaining cast as letting them live and interact amongst themselves, or whatever happens in FE games between fights before Awakening.

....Or is that it, is it a continuous string of fight scenarios with story crammed in at the start and end?  That would be annoying, yeah.

Thats what they call fomo (fear of missing out). I was like that too, I had a huge backlog of oldass games that forced upon myself for some reason. I played like 3 or 4 of those.
I realized that im gonna burn myself out playing archaic and rudimentary games and will never get to the good ones. Storywise, you lose nothing. all of those games are standalone entries. I wouldn't have found some of my favorite games if i hadn't gotten rid of my fomo mentality.
I'm going to let god handle you people ✞

That's fine and all in a general sense, I do skip titles that have absolutely zero appeal to me like the MMO Final Fantasies, but this one also has connecting history to another topic of interest to me; why Sakurai finds these things so intrinsically important to Nintendo's history to be disappointed in Smash 64 at their lack of Marth in it and his demand of it in Melee.  This particular game is what he was fixated on, and I'm curious as an outsider what the hell he sees in it.  I can emphasize, being a Metroid fan and that game being hard to suggest the original at the curious, but I don't see the appeal without first-hand experience with the story played as intended.

But I'm also not a fan of this limited time digital nonsense Nintendo's pulling, so I'm just as likely going to skip out on it.  Won't die of ignorance in this case, just grumble at the next Smash FE DLC and wave my cane in the air.

Also wait, how are they all standalone entries when I've been listening for the past six-ish years since Smash Wii U/3DS about how Lucina is directly related to Marth and she has his sword and how that's a Big Damn Deal paying off whatever was set up before about it or whatever?  Surely Awakening is a distant sequel to the first game, in similar vein as to how Nier Automata is to the original Nier?

It's not just the raw difficulty, FE1 is a caveman game without the most basic QoL features. You can't see the range of units. You don't have any preview window before each fight, you have to calculate the hit rate and damage yourself. There's a lot of wonky shit that later games improved on.

And also the story is fairly basic, and the supporting characters barely get the chance to speak. Later games fixed this by giving them their own interactions and more background story.

- 1 is the first game in the chronology.
- 2 is a sidestory to 1, you don't need to play either to understand the other.
- 3 is a both a remake and a direct sequel to 1 and supercedes it.
- 4 was basically unrelated to the original trilogy, but the lore of dragons binds them together.
- 5 is a sidestory to 4, you need to play 4 to understand it but 5 has no real impact on 4.
- 6 is in a completely different timeline/universe.
- 7 is a direct prequel to 6.
- 8 is in a completely different timeline/universe, not related to 6 either.
- 9 is in a completely different timeline/universe, not related to 6 or 8, either.
- 10 is a direct sequel to 9.
- 11 is a remake and supercedes 1, but not 3.
- 12 is a remake and supercedes 3.
- 13 (Awakening) is a distant sequel to the original trilogy and also introduced the concept of a multiverse and sidestories of dubious canonicity that imply a larger cohesive universe through multiple eras, but it's all fanservice.

TL;DR: It's a game from a time when players were expected to draw their own maps and find out how the game's mechanics work by themselves.

So....it's asking of you to have the attention span longer than that of a knat.  Do a few shake-down combat runs, learn the numbers, get it memorized.  Nothing diabolical.  It's Mega Man.  Like I said before, Metroid, that thing freaking needed you to draw a map out in your notepad to reflect on every now and then.  Pokemon has a plethora of unknown numbers to make calculations in the background that you need to keep ticked off in the back of your head, not that I bother much with competitive.

Like I said, interested as a history lesson/cultural understanding reach-out, not too bothered by ancient gameplay practices, more-so held off by this recent garbage marketing tactic Nintendo's got going on.  Interested, but got plenty of other more interesting things to bother with.

Edit: That.  Exactly, that.  Used to do that, not a bother to me, intriguing if anything.  Excessive hand-holding is more detrimental than anything the challenge would bring to the table, personally.

Also good to know the timeline/interconnectivity, thanks.  3 and 11/12 sounds odd when there's also that DS version of FE 1 out there as well.  Is that a Metroid II/AM2R/Samus Returns sort of deal in the FE community?
