The Mugen Fighters Guild - Making a mugen character i'm a beginner

So to start I have been playing mugen for some years now off and on and I'm always amazed at the content that people put out. But there are times when I find my self asking why don't certain characters that play in a certain style (pots) exist that have solid core gameplay. Basically if you want something do it your self so I'm doing just that since I'm a beginner I have been trying to find some decent up to current mugen standards tutorial's and I found this on youtube " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYjBxcLLE-g ". Now I have fighter factory 3 and gimp that was recommended in the tutorial and I'm using the "divinewolf" KFM as I want to make a pots styled character so I'm using that as a template ( I'm open to suggestions if there are better templates out there ). So I'm at the part where I'm trying to use gimp for the indexing process and it's not working at all I get some other off color than the color that I want. So I skip that part because gimp is being finicky and skip to adding sprites in fighter factory under the context that maybe the sprites are already indexed and I just have to add them to fighter factory and continue the lesson only to be meet by a warning from 0-8 saying that the sprites weren't indexed properly for the current sff. The sprite loads in but it is covered in magenta still were as his sprites doesn't have that when loaded into fighter factory so I basically hit a road block and I want advice on how to get from point a to point b cause I really want this to move like I'm making progress. I know it's not something that will get done over night but I really want to get this going and I don't know what the issue is whether it's gimp or the sprites them self. I included the links with examples with my issues and link to sprite set.
