  • Attempting to develop drawing skills to the best
Making a thread just to show progress and receive criticism.
I've been itching to make an AVGN character that's not a Shiki edit since 2017, only to fall short due to insufficient skill.

The Nerd is going to have a custom gameplay style based on mostly Melty Blood, CvS2 and MvC3, with POTS aesthetics/effects because of how neat it looks. Most of the moves he'd use will be from the series and some games, as well as custom moves based from various fighters.

Screenshots (Palette shown is the (unfinished) smart palette):

Actual Sprites (In-game speed is different):

Criticism, suggestions/ideas, etc;  highly welcome.

Dude, that spritework is fucking clean.

I don't have any criticism since I'm not an expert in the field of pixel art -- all I can say is, it looks real good, and even if there ARE any issues, you're off to a fantastic start regardless.

Insufficient skill? This work is phenomenal. I could not fathom what trials you had to undergo to make it to this point, but I wish the best of luck for this project. Haven't even watched any of his videos in years but hoping this can come to fruition.

thanks. just hopefully i'll be devoted enough to make more animations even if i were sidetracked by anything else.

by insufficient skills, i meant really old versions that never went past a single (unfinished) sprite, which predate the sprites on the first post.
hoping this will come to fruition too. thank you and stay tuned.
