"Z" Standard Punch Leading To Multiple Hits

I am inquiring on how to make a character change from a single weak/med punch (z/x) to a rapid hit (similar to JoJo rushes).
Basically I want a character to be able to use his punches but if the command is hit multiple times it will change into a rapid hit animation and state. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

I understand that it may be only accomplished through a variable setting, I also have a character to reference but would like to hear more info.

You can set up a mash command and have that trigger to break out of the light punch. Allowing it to happen within its own state as well allows you to keep it going.

Command = a,a,a,a
Time = 5
For example should net mashing the button. Use that in your changestates and you ought to get something. If you do use a variable its to limit the number of times you can use the attack in a row.
