Title: Unnamed Web ARG-based Fighting Game
Post by: Dawn de Era on October 03, 2020, 05:10:13 pm
So I've been wanting to talk about this for a while now. I watched a lot of Nexpo, Night Mind, and the like at one point, and it got me thinking of a web ARG-based fighting game with characters based off of notable ARGs. This thread will document my ideas for such a game. Please feel free to contribute, I seriously want to know what people have to say about this. I'm not too well-versed in fighting game building, so any type of feedback or any suggestions are appreciated immensely. I'm also more than happy to elaborate on anything I put in here.

ROSTER:
Fighters - Stephanie Lawson Stevens (same name), Cadavre (Local58)
Bonus Games - Assimilate the Subject (NOC+10)
Stages - TBD

Gameplay Type - I'm aiming for a mix of CvS and MvC in terms of flowiness and how much things chain into each other. It'll be six button with a taunt. I have more to figure out with this, so I'll probably change this around some.

Mechanics - Still thinking with this one. I definitely want to introduce a unique mechanic of my own making.

As an ARG fan myself, and an avid watcher of Night Mind videos, I honestly don't know what to suggest. The idea seems cool on paper, but I can't think of prominent ARG figures that can be made into fighting game characters. Mostly 'cause, well, they aren't fighters. Maybe HATE from Sophie's videos? Dunno.

If you broaden the roster to creepypastas, SCPs and internet culture in general, maybe you can gather enough characters for a small sized roster.

The worrying thing about SCPs specifically is the fact that they are so many of them and would easily oversaturate the lineup. Creepypastas, maybe, but recently those sort of things have a sort of poor quality stigma to them.

As for adding onto the concept that I'm with right now, I'm thinking of lifting someone from the Wyoming Incident ARG, as well as maybe reps from Petscop, POSTcontent, Local58... Hell, since we were talking creepypastas, even BEN DROWNED is an ARG. I could definitely lift some cues from that. I'm not really afraid to make characters kinda wacky and harder to manage, or to deviate from a normal character archetype, so I can lift more from the source material. To be clear, I'm gonna have each character from each ARG not be a 100% accurate representation of themselves in source, but more of a general representation of everything from their source, or as much that would still make sense for said character.

Threw Cadavre in the lineup as the Local58 rep. I'm going for sort of Smash rules in terms of how many reps there will be per series in that there won't be more than two.
