Funny theory, on why do some prominent plot points from previous games are seemingly absent in SF6.

I... I somehow was expecting there would be some very small nod related to that other "SF in Metro City" game.

Wasn't expect it to be in such a confusing spot, though. I mean- how can someone even have possibly been playing a unreleased game...? :stare2:

If life ever decides that it doesn't need to suck that much all the time, perhaps I could actually manage to start some of these one day... :wall:

A remake of Capcom Fighting Jam / Evolution

A fullgame that looks and sounds nearly the same as the official game, only with more polishment, characters and gameplay mechanics around there. Most likely would use IKEMEN as the engine, since it has a native score system and allows for multiple characters in the same slot.

A full crossover between Sonic and Mega Man

Basically a interpretation of the awesome Worlds Collide saga by Archie comics, only with a few plot differences here and there to adjust for the gameplay and such. A 2D platform adventure where you can tag between Sonic and Mega Man, and have to master the synergy and exclusive abilities of both in order to fully blast through all the maps in all it's glory! (although you can theoretically beat the game with only one of them with no big worries as well)

Gameplay-wise, each character would have his own lifebar, and dedicated power bar - boost for Sonic, Rush and sub-weapons for Mega. Energy pick-ups would restore the current character's health, while rings across the map would increase the character's power bar.

Levels would have sections designed for both speed, and precision. In speed sections Sonic would pass through enemies with fair ease, while in precision sections Mega Man would benefit from his long range weapon and easier handling through platforms - as well as underwater sections.

The story campaing would consist of a starting/prologue stage where the boss is simply the other protagonist facing the character you chose to start with; followed by 8 stages selectable by a menu. Each stage would have 2 acts: at the end of the first act you fight a regular robot master from the Mega Man series, and at the end of the stage and second act, you face a roboticized version of a Sonic series character.

When beating one of these stages, you free the character from the robotization and mind control of the doctors, and then either Mega Man gets a new weapon from them, or Sonic learns a new ability/tweak/buff also related to them (wether both will get something new or just one per stage could be adjusted later on, as the game gets to the balancing phase).

Then after clearing the 8 selectable stages, you finally reach to the fortress made by the doctors where the final levels take place, and the rest is pretty much near to what a player of either series would expect.

Mechanics-wise, this one hack of Sonic 2 for the Genesis actually comes close to what I would imagine classic Mega Man could play like - just imagine it's a more tweaked slide instead of a dash, and perhaps a wall jump instead of a wall slide (since Mega can do that in the Power Battle games and in Marvel vs. Capcom)

In regards to graphics and style, Mega Man sprites could ideally be based around his MM11 animations, but with slightly taller proportions like he's commonly portrayed in the artworks and comics. As for Sonic, I would say the perfect design does already exists, actually - just look up the mods of the more recent 2D games that give him "the Modern" design... simply magnificent. :pleased:

A accurate recreation of Capcom Fighting All-Stars: Code Holder

Reality :wacko::

Something certainly time-consuming, although with today's free resources this could be doable. A 3D game with "retro" graphics that runs at 480p, that tries to achieve no more, and no less than what was initially planned to be on the official release of the game back in 2003. Obviously, I can never get 100% accuracy on this one; but it would still be something really fascinating to me, to see someone at least try to get a close feel of what playing the game back in the day would be like. :)

Figuring out a game engine would be the truly annoying part, though - I probably would have to learn how to code everything from scratch, using something like Unity maybe. If Project EF-12 could run properly in my lowend PC, I would have already tried to put up something for it...

But hey, did you know the pretty cool game Schwarzerblitz has a open source version and also allow for mods? This gives some room for thought... :rolleyes4:

Fei-Long vs. Hon-Fu
yep, I too think he ends up being the closest match. The SNK Wiki states that his inspiration is a mix of Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan, afterall.

Karin vs. Chizuru
wealthy gals

Ibuki vs. Malin
girls with knives

Ibuki vs. Hibiki
girls with slashing attacks

Urien vs. Krizalid
secret organization's second-in-command

B.B. Hood vs. Mars People
mercenary with lotsa guns vs. alien army with advanced technology. Sounds like a funny story; :P

Rock vs. Dante
stylish young men with a evil father

Lots of other ideias, although I don't know if there are full CvS/PoTS style renditions of all of them:

Kula... now that's a kinda tough pair to make. I initially thought of someone like Anita - girls with a seemingly cold personality, who eventually got accompanied by other fighters. But then, most versions of Anita out there are mainly based on her Marvel Super Heroes secret appearance, which on itself feels... a little bit incomplete, to say the least.
  • Another idea may be, one of the Shadaloo dolls - being basically living weapons, similar to how Kula once was.

Raiden - You guys already pointed out the good ones, so I'm gonna be crazy here and suggest a character that originates from the Slam Masters series...! Specifically the one that is also designed after Big Van Vader - none other than The Grater!

There is speculation that the 5th character might be Kain R. Heinlein based on the long hair and suit.  Also the fact that it is a neat way to promote the upcoming Garou 2.

For a split second I almost thought the 5th character could actually be Alba Meira... Then I quickly woke up and faced reality. It's most certainly Kain promoting his brand new game, yeah.

Last character looks like a girl in a school uniform-ish type of clothing, with the skirt and sleeves... So I guess, Hinako? Kisarah? Athena but with some different moves?

As far as I know, yeah. Character music is only avaiable to arcade mode; for the other modes you can only play music files via stages.

The way these were written results in MUGEN looking for their .def file inside the Chars folder, instead of each character's own individual folder.

Remember, you don't need to put a extension when the character's folder name is the same as their DEF file. ;)

Code:
cvsryu/cvsryu_normal.def, random, music=sound/Ryu_Theme.mp3, order=1
cvskyo/cvskyo_normal.def, random, music=sound/Esaka_Forever_(Kyo_Kusanagi).mp3

cvsrugal, random, music=sound/The_RR_Rugal_Bernstein.mp3

cvsgeese/cvsgeese_normal.def, random, music=sound/Stiff_Shoulders_for_Geese_(Geese_Theme).mp3
cvszangief/cvszangief_normal.def, random, music=sound/Theme_of_Zangief_-SFIV_Arrange-.mp3
cvsnakoruru, random, music=sound/15._Silent_Hill_(Nakoruru_Stage).mp3
cvsdan, random, music=sound/Performance_-Theme_of_DAN-.mp3
cvsyun, random, music=sound/Yun_&_Yang_Stage_-CROWDED_STREET_[Console_Edit]-.mp3
cvstodo, random, music=sound/05_-_NEBUTA.mp3
cvshayato, random, music=sound/Dear_Falling_Angel_(Krizalid-2).mp3

Yep, this shall work fine!

For other examples, you can check the notes from default MUGEN's Select.def, or in documentation pages like the ones from this forum.

I think I might have figured it out... the parameter for the random stage is written in a invalid format, and so everything typed afterwards is ignored by MUGEN. Also worth to check, remember to include a ".def" extension when specifying which file to read in a character's folder.

Code:
cvsryu/cvsryu_normal.def, random, music=sound/Theme_of_Ryu_-SFIV_Arrange-.mp3
cvskyo/cvskyo_normal.def, random, music=sound/Esaka_Forever_(Kyo_Kusanagi).mp3

Does it work this way?

If I remember correctly, music on the 'select.def' doesn't work if the file name has spaces on it. So, just renaming the music file to something like "Theme_of_Ryu_-SFIV_Arrange-.mp3" shall make it work.

Maaann, just now I had to be far from my pc and not able to check it out for the next days... But regardless, the hype is real - LET'S (Shin)GO!!! :kugoi:

The actual coding part of character creation is the most fun and best part, and it went by far too fast. Especially compared to all the boring or frustrating stuff that came before. :qq:

Well, y'know... a EX mode of sorts maybe could remedy this kind of situation; ::) even if his moveset changes through the KOF games are a bit more nuanced compared to Kyo's.

Relatedly, on the subject of Norimaro: apparently one of the Capcom execs had promised that Norimaro would be in the next fighter Capcom developed, and Akitomo suspects that Norimaro was placed in MSHvsSF specifically to avoid having to put him in the then upcoming SFIII—in other words, they stuck him in the game series that wasn't really a huge hit in Japan so they could keep the big prestige titles "clean".

Lol. If this is the true reason of Norimaro's inclusion in that specific game, at this point I think he might be the closest situation of a truly "out of place" character that any commercial fighting game ever managed to get.

I am not sure why people keep repeating "grounded", but then look over the Samurai Showdown characters and Morrigan.

This!

SNK showed multiple times to be more fond of "wacky" roster choices than Capcom - see also SvC: The Match of The Millennium, and Neo Geo Battle Coliseum.

This is why I probably feel more entertained with the idea of a "SvC3" (yep, 3, cause MoTM also rocks and everyone should check it out) than a "CvS3", personally.

Small feedback about the park BG. Maybe it's due to it not being final, and you might already have figured that part out, but I think the fountain could use some dithering on it's shading, so it blends a bit more with the other elements of the stage. But that's literally the only thing I can point out - everything else is just perfect. :c00l:

if you have a idea in which character I can do next you can tell me

If you're looking for some characters ideas, may I perhaps suggest Cody's younger brother, Kyle Travers? As much as underrated Final Fight Streetwise tends to be, I think it's fair to conclude that his character design is one of the coolest aspects that originated from that game.

Do games that do horrible things with established veterans (Sonic in Smash 4, Sindel in MK11) count?

I still find it baffling, the lack of representation that the Sonic franchise ended up getting in Smash as whole, considering how long he's been around. I mean, seriously... having not only a icon status that arguably goes well beyond the gaming scope, but also a established crossover series alongside none other than Mario apparently was never enough to even consider a second playable character - being it a echo fighter or not - in the games that came after Brawl?
