This is a new collaborative contest, this time for Buu. As you know, Buu has the capability to absorb the enemies and take their form:

We have the Z2 characters already sprited, but we need alternate forms when Buu absorbs non-Z2 characters such as Ryu, Kyo or Megaman.
Are you bad enough dude to draw them?
- Absorbed form could be a static sprite or a simple animation. By simple I mean that it stays on the same location, but some face or arms animation is accepted. We will not implement huge animations involving multiple objects/layers, as it will create a conflict with what we already have planned.
- Absorbed form must keep some of Buu's original palette, whether it's the pants or the skin. You can use the below sprite as a reference for Buu's main palette:

- Absorbed form must follow Z2 art style (outlines, shading, angle of light...) or at least be closely related. Exceptions could be made if the original character has a radical different style, but then Buu's parts must have the same style as well.
- Size, body mass and overall pose can be altered, don't restrict your creativity to using the same pose as the above example
- Submitting an entry to the contest may not guarantee your sprite will be included in the final character build
- By submitting an entry, you are allowing us (Team Z2) to make slight edits or modification to the sprites as we believe it may look better in Buu's SFF file
- Despite what the title says, this is not a Halloween-theme related contest. It's just that Buu is a fan of candies and this is his favorite season of the year

im pretty sure that anyone that wants can figure out how to make a ryu buu without a base lol.
Guys remember that you can do random buu bodies that will be used at random, you dont have to do a specific character for he to fuse with.

No offense, but the Buudan sprite looks squeezed horizontally. I am sure you can improve the quality and linework on this. It would be a pity not to include a Buudan sprite, but it needs more quality on the sprite.
You can compare Sabockee's sprites using SF characters and learn from him on how to get the extra quality and fine tunings

It should be shortened a bit though, but for the most part, that's how it was positioned.
The left viewer hand outlines (the ones that separate the fingers) seem a bit messy though, they should match the right viewer's hand. The outline's at the bottom of the pants can use some smoothening out,, but IDR if Barker did them like that.

Guys a request, could you make some weirdass buu edits? No character sin particular, just like, a big fat buu, a small thin buu, a buu with several arms, etc.
All in the same vein, they'll serve for the randomize when buu eats a character he cant recognize.

legs and hips don't match at all. Jacket doesn't look like fabric, but more like bloated plastic.
And last but not least, the neck, the neck!! where's the neck?? Buu looks like a fat man with a hanging jowl.
I know you guys can do it better. There's no need to rush to get the sprite quick or "be the first". Take your time and work with the linework, shading and details.

Also,a question i had in mind for some time:
Are these absorbed forms win poses against specific characters? Example:Buu against Ryu, Buu takes Ryu's form.
Random? If not recognised takes an old man's form or else for example.
or both?

That's because you are doing a straight-up JJBA > Z2 conversion w/o taking into account how things'll look in Z2. Its like a copy-paste of JJBA shading/detailing with little changes here and there, and thats wrong.
Reference from the style you are converting to and take into account style specifics when doing conversions. Otherwise they wont look good.

No.
-Hat looks nothing like Hol Horse's, it looks likes something one would find in a dumpster rather than a commercial safari hat.
-Hands look nothing remotely like Buu's, they are still devoid of detail and the shape doesn't remotely match that of Barker's sprite.
-Lighting is pretty much fucked. That hanging part of the upper body, idk its name, shouldn't have that much lighting. Look at sabockee's Buu-Li to see what I mean. In addition, it doesn't look like fabric, just plastic because of how its lit and the lack of folds. Also check Buu-Li.
-Right viewer arm looks broken. Its as if his forearm was forcibly twist. The forearm should have the same angle as the upper parts.
-No anti-aliasing on the outlines whatsoever. Look at the pants (which you took from Barker's sprite), the way the outlines were handled, that's how you want it to look like, otherwise it'll look like an unfinished Z2 sprite.
-Lighting on the arm is wrong as well (left viewer). Bicep shouldn't receive that much lighting. Also, in most of the parts you made, the light doesn't even hit Buu Horse correctly. why does the lighting on the left viewer fore arm, the hat, neck, and bracelets look like that? It should flow with the shape its hitting, not do... whatever it is that its doing.
-More of a nitpick, but since you are doing a JJBA character, you should exaggerate the pose. Your's is devoid of any dynamism, and honestly looks boring. Also, he doesn't have that long hair Hol has.

It's not perfect, but to an extent, it does address the problems stated above. Use it if you want.
You'd benefit highly from working on your art fundamentals, because you really don't seem to have any sort of grasp on them. That, and maybe practice some fundamentals of pixel art too. Like anti-aliasing for example.

You can do a better job, I know you can. Otherwise I would not have bothered to tell you anything.
Try to give time to the art fundamentals, they'll def help you. I mean, my grasp on them are far from perfect, but you'll notice an improvement in your own art when you start practicing them and giving them mind in future art related stuff. That's what happened to me in some aspects. And it will happen to you too.
And having references on hand is not a wrong thing. The best artists use references a lot.

The sprites are great, but as you said, they are underrated series (or not as popular as SF/KOF) and it's a pity that there will be few chances to see them in action, as they are character-specific and I'm not sure how many Misaos have been mugenized.
In any case, rest assured they will be added to Buu's SFF

The sprites are great, but as you said, they are underrated series (or not as popular as SF/KOF) and it's a pity that there will be few chances to see them in action, as they are character-specific and I'm not sure how many Misaos have been mugenized.
In any case, rest assured they will be added to Buu's SFF

Just so no one is misguided or misinformed: Absorbed sprites need to using Z2 art style. The Bender animation, while funny, is not reallly Z2 style, so it won't be included in the SFF. If you redraw it in Z2 style, I will add it without any doubt

What about the DuckHunt dog? To be fair I thought Buu becoming 8 bit for that was part of the gag.

Hunt dog could be an exception, keeping in mind the origin of the character and that the whole Buu absorbed form sprite has been adapted to the 8-bits style. Obviously this will not work for other characters.
But in the case of the Bender, what I see is a clash of style between Bender's art and Buu's head. It is basically a headswap with differing art styles. Buu's head is not even using Matt Groening's style, nor Bender's body is using Z2 style

With this one, I had the "brilliant" idea of using a winpose from the game. Besides the fact that the source had the crap of semitransparency, I got a little lost when I was positioning Shinidamachu with the lasso tool.
And shit! An official game that uses rotated sprites without edit... I had more work that I could predict. Whatever... I liked the result.

Putting Super Buu Z2's head on CvS Haohmaru's body =/= A Z2 sprite, or a proper submission.
Try to actually edit the sprite a bit more, to match the Z2 standards. Give Speedster's sprites a reference if you are in loss.

The idea for the first one was to turn Buu into a Balloon, coupled with some inflatable pants (anyone who gets the reference is an official OG :8):), and the other, a Past-his-Prime Buu. The only things I'm having problems with are the legs for the first (positioning wise), and the torso + arms for the other.
Any pointers? I could really use them.

I think less folds would make it look more realistic. I'd also add some curves where his shoulders would be because it looks kinda odd like that, at least chubbier :)

Alright, two Mega Man styled Buus. They were designed to be more like a amalgam of robot masters, although one of them ended up looking a lot like Bass. :uhoh2:

I know it's a little annoying updating the sprites in the SFF, but since I'm still learning how to sprite, sometimes later I realize how I can improve the sprites. Sorry, but it may happen again while I'm contributing. :wall:
All Inuyasha chars are covered. Totosai and Shippo weren't converted and Naraku neither, I mean, there's a Naraku around but he's not good.

Probably by using "enemy,name" or something like that. Maybe also some of those mysterious character trait identifiers by Messatsu I've heard about for some of the more generic absorption transformations.
It's just a guess, though.

I'm glad to contribute on a heavy project like this, Buu is a crazy villain and you guys are making justice with his uniqueness. :]
I could sketch out some more ideas if I find myself with enough free time, but for now I just leave a update to one of the BuuMen - the chest was needing some adjust on the antialising, and the "head gem" can look cooler in alternate palettes.

I want to add more absorbed sprites to BuuZ2 for personal purposes, but I can't figure out how I can do it.
Can anyone give me a detailed explanation, please?

It's not a complicated process, but it could be intimidating if you are not familiar with mugen coding and sprite format.
The absorbed sprite has to be separated in 2 different layers, one will be palette shared with Buu's colors, and the other layer will be using its own palette. With this, the skin colors will use the same ones as the active palette, and the clothes will be unaffected by palette changes.
Once you have the 2 sprites, they have to be added into the SFF with the following sprite numbers
28xxx,0 <-- This is the sprite that shares Buu's colors
29xxx,0 <-- This is the sprite with clothes (not sharing colors)
xxx is the ID that we are going to use for the form, it needs to be the same number for both sprites. Accepted numbers go from 000 to 999, but some of these slots are already used for the other forms. Obviously, the ID you chose has to be available in order to make it work. You have the full list of used IDs in the beginning of state 4400
Now, we have to add the forms in the AIR file, by creating 2 animations

Even if the sprite is just a single sprite, we have to add both animations (one of them will be empty) if not, there will be a debug error of missing animation
The code that needs to be modified is located in supers.cns, in states 4400.
In state 4400 you will need to add the corresponding name triggers:
[State 0, VarSet] ;Custom form by Ricpia
type = VarSet
triggerall = !time
trigger1 = Enemy, Name = "Name of the character for your custom form, as it appears in the DEF file"
var(51) = xxx <-- this is the same ID we have used for the SFF and AIR
That's all you need to have the custom form working in your personal mugen.
