The Ace Attorney or Phoenix Wright series has usually played to a certain niche of gamers who enjoy logic-based games. Capcom stated that in order for the franchise to continue, they needed to expand the audience which is why they are going after one of the largest audiences, Call of Duty fans.

“I am told that overseas gamers really enjoy playing Call of Duty and that it is the most popular video game franchise outside of Nintendo,” said Yamazaki in an interview on the official Japanese website for Ace Attorney, “Capcom said that Turnabout Trial 5 (Japanese title for the game) must sell over three million copies and that the only way to do that is to target the Call of Duty audience.”

“As for the gameplay, it is ultimately the same as the regular Turnabout Trial games except for the addition of first-person shooting sections,” said Yamazaki, “This is where the game will most resemble Call of Duty. Naruhodo Ryuichi (Phoenix Wright) will carry a gun in these sections and will have to defend himself against terrorists who want to assassinate him. It is very violent and I hope this will be enough for the Turnabout Trial series to continue for many more games to come.”

The director also mentioned that a dog will play a major role in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies and that players will assume control of the dog in certain parts of the game to complete important tasks like killing people.
