I would recommend editing Firebrand himself just a little. Maybe removing the white outline (which kind of looks like an aura) from his wings and outer body? Though Firebrand is strong, but I don't believe he should have an aura around him unless he's in "Luminous Body" mode (UMvC3). That one alteration would help the sprites appear as more of an actual "edit" than a recolor of the original Gameboy sprites. Plus to be honest, the"aura" doesn't look all that good. :P

I do think the color choices for Firebrand and Scrooge McDuck were pretty good though.

For the other sprites, I'm not familiar with them or their origin. But since they were made with more colors than a typical 8-Bit sprite would have, adding more contrast to the colors that already exist might help greatly improve their overall appearance.

More contrast between the colors would definitely make your sprites stand out more. At least with the original ones anyway.

its been a while since i posted something worth the watch but here is a concept for a screenpack.
i have been playing alot of slam masters so the insparation come mostly from this
so what do you guys think about if it is a good idea i may start learning how to make screenpack

Something like that, just make the belt bigger so the sides meet the ends of the screen and play around with the character slots to make it more visible.

^I like this concept the best. Although, I think it'd be better if the lifebar ends were rounded like the powerbar. Also, getting rid of the white line in the middle.

I don't know what to say... I'm not used to small sprites and I don't see errors in those you've shown so far.

Fang's stance is misaligned, that's for sure.

Just keep posting and don't care for inactivity, someone will comment on your stuff eventually (like I did).

I didn't get notified of this tag... :-\ Though about Lucia... No, I don't see anything wrong. I'm just not heavily familiar with that attire. Though, that's what she had on in Contra 4 eh? I never got to play that unfortunately. I haven't owned a handheld since Game Gear... I'm so used to her Shattered Soldier look. Although, that does look like her attire in Neo Contra...kinda. I like the new look with her hair down, as she always had it wrapped up in previous installments. Anyway, nice job.

Loving the idea, only nitpick is that is looks very pillow shaded at the moment. You might want to look at other samples of lifebars to have a good idea of what you could try for the shading.

I really like how you are going for the portrait in here. Just a suggestion, could you make an alternative where you can keep the Capcom styled JJBA portraits? I really love those too.

(Also, if I didn't know who Urien was, I'd say the guy on the right was a buff nude Enrico Pucci)

Lovely. Just a suggestion, you might want to make the lifebar have more of a golden shading in it. Like in Capcom's games, and try to lose a bit of the outlines too:

It's really neat looking, and damn, that's some wide screen lifebar.

Personally, I would dig some black shading to that outline. It might give it more depth for the golden effects, and you could also add something around the timer circle, like in ASB or any of the Capcom games.

It could be a mix of anything, you would just have to mainly decide what kind of portrait you would want. Looking at it right now, I don't think the MvC1 face portraits would go as well in this. In my opinion, something like the MSHvsSF or XvsSF portrait placements might go well in these, but you might want to experiment with what you think that fits better.

Update: change some minor stuff like the guard bar color to a greenish turquoise and the power bar to something closer to asb also add the idea to make the lifebars change color when you lost health

I can't help but feel that the letters in the RETIRED! logo should be more separated from each other so the logo could look a little wider (extending the borders as well, of course). Just a thought.

His body itself actually looks pretty flat, seeing there is barely any shading on it to give a sense of depth. The head looks pretty fine.

A good way to shade would be to outline the areas where later you want to fill in. I can see the hand is flat, the lightsource is not defined, the spikes shading is too simple. Some details got lost in the translation to pixel art.

Lifebars are looking awesome so far. There are only two things that seem off to me. One is the low contrast on the timer's shading, and the other is that it's somewhat hard to read the little round square below the lifebars. You might want to give those little squares and the round victory letters a bit of more depth, like putting a little shadow under them.

I was planning to make a lifebar for MFG SF until see yours. It is pretty legit.
I think a white outline in the font of name works.

so after browsing in the mfg sf project I took judas idea about editing the power instinct character since this was kind of an easy one I wanted to try my skill at it dont know the name of the character but I know that he was supposed to be in cfas

I always love me some Punch Out, and I dig the look for those lifebars. Only thing is that if they were to be used in mugen, they would need to be larger.

Really nice Magician's Red sprite, has a pretty nice separation. Say, did you edit the shading on it anyhow? Hard to tell.

Yeah, man, all your lifebars are turning into something really special!
I have two suggestion for you:
1st - For basis, you should use 320x240 px screens, so the coder wouldn't need resize/modify the lifebar size. :smash:
2nd - In your RS lifebar, you could make the fonts thicker horizontally.

That's a decent concept, but I have one main problem with your lifebars. They tend to be way too outlined, and far too linear at times, and it just makes it look far too bland and uninteresting. You can give any kind of look and appearance to the lifebar you want, like maybe making it look a bit metallic, with the top outlining having a bright look to it or something like that. Not to mention most of your work could heavily make use of some anti aliasing at the linear parts, like in that timer counter over there.

So yeah, in short, it's kind of a nice concept, but it has a bland execution to it.

- About RS fonts, they look nice!
- The MVC lifebar looks simpler than you usually work, maybe doing a Time BG with a globe like MVC3.
- The TVC one is good, but is that for the simul mode, right?

To be exact that's sel-out (selective outline), a type of anti-aliasing restricted to the outlines. Look at the different examples that describe the differences between normal anti-aliasing and sel-out.

What they meant is that you used only one colour for the outlines and that you could use lighter colours for the fonts' outline (but I wouldn't suggest that, because it would need a lot of work to do to look right with the lifebars).

The problem in here is that instead of a metallic look, what you achieved was a yarn looking life bar. The thing about dithering is that it works for either very limited palettes, or as a shading transition, and some times, it works for detailing certain things, but the dithering for those is very specific. Still, my point is that you shouldn't just fill something with dithering like that. In fact, I doubt a life bar like this even needs dithering to begin with. If you want a metallic looking life bar, you could try looking at other pictures to get a better idea of it. For pixel art, try to think of it like this guy's sword:

Liking the 2nd screenpack layout better than the 1st... but the portraits need to be re-tooled (if that term fits) for how it's shown. I'm slightly aware that it's a concept image, but right now it looks like lines just drawn from a marker or something.

If I were to think of how the portraits are shown, I would think of something like.... this:

- The gradient (white and gray/light blue) makes it look too simple.
- The place where the timer would go, you can try making it look more 3D (adding more shadows) and not flat as it is right now.
- The big circles for the Powerbars look too big, IMO.

The "quick" one is my fav, on it you could use black instead the lightest blue tone on top, in my opinion.
About the "Tekken-type", it needs some work on portrait area.

The concept reminds me to one of the Tekken lifebars (I don't remember which one) but I like it :)

Since the release of SFV is getting closer I taught it be good to do something related to the MugenGuild SF project
not being a fan of my oldf lifebars anymore I decided to do another concept

For portrait, i think using SFZ2 styled position could be nice, but it's up to you decide

Was thinking about the old MFG SF project and I just felt inspired lol. The turqoise in middle is for random select and the big triangle at the end would be the stage select. Character name would be on the white line similar to unist.

Obviously the kof name would not be there but man the color is spot on especially with the earth globe
