Topic's changed to KOF 0.99 since there's one last alpha release before the 1.0 beta.

The biggest change is that KOFE will have a tag mode when playing simul.

Melcore has also done some excellent work on color separation for characters like Adel, Joe, Jhun and Rock

Things I still need to explore for post 0.99 release:

KOFE will have character portraits done by Melcore
A basic story for the 1 player mode
More color separation for Robert and King
Oswald to be released as a "booster" character (I'll pre-code his special intro, stage and music).
The custom characters (Raiden, Ryuhaku, Morrigan, John and Richard). Look for them in 1.0.

Long term possibilities:

Victory quotes. Need to have consistent artwork for playable characters/
Sexy KOs? Yeah... I'm still thinking about it.
So it'd be cool if I could add a few alternate versions/costumes in there (Nightmare Geese, Omega Rugal, Takuma, XIII Iori). We'll see...

Here's the new characters to version 0.99.

Chris:

Plays like a combination of his reg and orochi versions as do the rest of the new face team. He's one of the few characters that has 6 specials and his DMs are all fire based. Because Krizalid stole his version of a fire projectile, Chris' is modified slightly to work like a Ko oh Ken.

Hotaru:

Did my best to touch up this character to give her that old school KOF feel. She loses the reflect because she was way too similar to Athena. I tried to make her more of an in between of Athena and Kensou. Her main addition is her new projectile DM that she takes from Grant.

Gato:

He retains most of his moves from MotW. His air projectile though is now it's own special and stomp and rush attack (from '03) are variations of the same move. The main change for his DMs is that his neck snap is now a leaping grab, although it can still chain from the weak palm strike.

Heidern:

I used Leona to try to clean up some of his moves and make them more efficient. Stormbringer and Endbringer use KOFE mechanics to improve their usefulness. He has a new counter DM and his Final Bringer is now an unblockable grab. It only grabs grounded opponents to balance it out. Heidern's bringer moves retain their vampire characteristics leading to less damage to the opponent, but life gain for Heidern.

Goddess:

She plays completely unique to KOFE. Fast draw arrows, seeking lightning, pop up throw and no animal friends. I had a lot of sprite customizing to do to make this character happen (considering my limited skills).  She's got the full screen SDM, but unlike the other bosses, her HSDM sees her heal herself, so you better make sure when you knock her down, stays down.

Lee Pai Long:

He is the Vega of the SNK universe. Fast moves, claws, a wall leaping special attack. The necksnap stun grab is now a leaping attack and allows for good combo potential. His DMs are more traditional. His Maximum Lee SDM was a pain to code, but should always deliver 6 hits. His HSDM recalls Gen with an attack of blinding speed and precision. It's blockable, but it's fast.

May Lee:

Another major change in this game is May Lee's play style. She has access to more moves from the get go to give her new pressure options. She also relies heavily on juggles being one of the few characters that has a vertical and horizontal launcher. Her kick rekka provides a low and high option to mix up opponents. Her hero mode remains only in her SDM and HSDM where she cranks up the volume for max damage.

Tung Fu Rue:

Fast and small, Tung is a good mid-boss that comes at you with hit and run techniques. He's got his classic moveset. He uses the muscle explode as his anti-air and it can snuff projectiles. His anti-air kick is now a DM and he summons the muscles only for SDM and HSDM. The HSDM is a new move for him where he fills the screen with power. Working virtually like a full screen attack.

Gouki:

Gouki brings an SF type feel into the KOF universe. While not coming in with his full arsenal (lacking the demon flip combinations), he's already strong enough to be a mid-boss character with his multiple projectile based attacks.  His moves span from SSF2T all the way to CVS2. And he's got a strong pressure game and powerful defense so he can be played either way. Beware the Raging Demon.

Chin Gentsai

Chin awkward style lives on in KOFE. He loses his "stances" as has been the case with other characters, but can now "delay" and "charge" his bottle strike, obtains auto guard on his leaping willow attack, no longer needs to "charge up" his anti-air flame breath and gains a new special counter strike attack. The DM and SDM are standard KOF fair, but Chin also gains a new HSDM where he powers up and runs at the opponent in a kamakaze attack that is unblockable. Chin's a deceptively strong addition to KOFE

I don't think so, Yashiro and Chris both are mixed, part Orochi and part normal, honestly I'm pretty pleased with the Yashiro, I enjoy using him in all my regular mugens.

There is an idea of doing certain characters with a second "look", but it wouldn't change the gameplay. I have 68 characters in this game lol. I don't think there'd be much room for something unique. Just gotta finish those ones first. Glad you enjoy Orochi New Face Yashiro. The Orochi Team was fun to make.

Every little thing counts, so I'm going to also log the bugs I'm catching and fixing as I go along plus any other improvements I've made that I can remember.

Leona: Moon Slasher now removes the explode when she's hit out of it. Also fixed the x velocity (instead of posadd), so it's smoother like Heiderns.

Ash: He regains his original crouching hp, gets a new Guard Cancel Attack and has new animation for his special throw (there's a lot of Ash XIII out there)

Rugal: Fixed the effect issue coming out of his wrong eye in the Goenitz intro

I know I've done more, but I can't remember what. The top of my list is a binding issue with Krizalid's counter. That'll be next.

Updated the post with Goddess Athena.

In the spirit of Athena work and Leotard Mai, who was added into KOFE long ago, regular Athena will now have swimsuit shining crystal bit. Gamba Gamba!

And lastly Kasumi gains her Air DM Projectile :)

Some minor bug fixes for Shermie's follow up to her throw.
Adjustments to Whip's special intros.
Stun attacks like Scum Gale have gained an extra tick of stun
Adel's stage has reverted to the blue sky blue noah version

Lee's vid and pic are up.

All special intro complete except for Gato vs Hotaru. Going into tweak mode to finish up some outstanding issues like Gato's lacking Victory poses.

I really like the effect, but I don't think I can do it for KOFE's stages as most of them don't have enough vertical spriting. Stages from KOF '95 and '96 all had spriting work done by me to give them some vertical spriting so the stage would at least move when characters jumped. Maybe there's still a way, but I don't know enough about the new effect to say for sure.

All bugs above have been fixed. Chris, Hotaru, Heidern and Gato had various fixes as well. Tag mode has been created and is slowly being implemented.

Mai's HSDM has her switch to leotard Mai. Been that way for awhile now. :)

Yes, I know most of the links are dead. I'm probably going to create a new website since I can't remember my old password to go in and change the existing one. I haven't bothered reposting stuff since 1.0 is just around the corner. I'll be using mediafire and mega.nz.

Must fix Krizalid type 3 counter bind. Andy's Geki Hishoken needs to be changed to a helper to avoid glitching.

Switched around a few stages. Ash gets rooftop, Pai gets '99 China streets and Clark gets Arabia '98 UM.
