Well, it's out now.  So much for indestructible life fibers.  That was an exaggeration and a half, they're just mesh steel.  Freaking Big the Cat can harm that.

Next is Lex Luthor and Doctor Doom.  Ah well, so much for the hinted Marvel vs Marvel match with Magneto and Doom in their DBC videos.

I'd assume at first glance Doctor Doom wins, but I don't know how broken they really get with Luthor's impossible intelligence, maybe he'll outlogic Marvel's destiny plan for Victor somehow or something to that stupid degree of comic book logic.

Also side note, congrats on the new weirdest transition to ad, Death Battle.  What was that analogy of the anthromorphic hedgehog and 17-year old girl "ready to perform"?  Was that really not given a second thought?

So hey.  Zack Snyder's Justice League is out now.  Anyone catch it?  Does anyone smile in it?

Or to put that in a less snide way, does it impress at all for someone who already doesn't like the DCEU's gloom and doom and general Snyder grittiness? I imagine it's if nothing else a more complete package than the 2017 movie, but I couldn't comment one way or another with firsthand knowledge; my interest was already evaporated with the first release and didn't see it back then.

I see general reviews are still cult-ish and tribal side versus side, calling for Whedon to be burned at the stake and whatnot or Snyder being a hack.  You know, fanboy reviews.  My take is everything surrounding the film sounds great, let a director fulfill his vision unclouded by corporate meddling, all profits go to suicide prevention, etc., all good things.  I just....abhor his direction and vision and it being the new public face of the company at large.

Undertale.

So...yeah.  The big meme game.  It surprise launched on Xbox just today.  Supposedly with some Xbox exclusive material, I dunno.  So I'm largely ignorant of what Undertale is other than memes and the general online narrative of what you're SUPPOSED to know.  I know there's a fat skeleton and a skinny skeleton named after Microsoft Word font types.  I know that this is supposedly Mother 3's spiritual successor when in development and they like to borrow Mother's troll mechanics of waiting long times doing nothing for events to happen.  I know that there's, like, a gazillion multiple endings, one apparently about becoming Hitler and exterminating a whole monster race or something.  And a parallel pacifist ending where no one dies and it's all sunshine and rainbows.

But what the actual damn game is like or the story or actual characters, not a thing.  So what the hell, it's free, I started it up and am blind running it.  Off the bat, I find it odd its compared to the Mother series so much.  This is clearly the opening to Majora's Mask.  The girl I'm playing as clearly fell to their death and is going through limbo.  It's also rather.....not to be mean, but the sprites are so crude.  I wonder why they never touched up on things like the flat, detail-less backgrounds after all the hype.

I dunno what ending I'm going for.  I was just adopted by a cow on hind legs and it has me waiting while it does chores.  I'm assuming a parental-related one.  Also a sunflower dude tried to eat me.

Shadow's preview is out.

This brings up a random realization that has bugged me in the past about the Sonic franchise.  They used it as an excuse in the Ramona Flowers/Amy Rose episode a while back too.  Supposedly, in Sonic lore, the anthromorphic human child-sized Hedgehogs have an inherent speed gene that lets all of them run in the ball park speed of Sonic.  It's largely why Amy was allowed to win, because they figure Amy is faster than the speed of sound or whatever game lore Sonic's speed is, been a while since seeing it.

Shadow here, however, has always been stuck with those jet boots explicitly made to be super fast like Sonic.  And supposedly Amy.  He's, not to reference Sonic Adventure 2 too heavily, a fake Hedgehog.

What I'm getting at is, is Death Battle implying that Amy can speedblitz Shadow without his fancy shoes?  Because wow would that be a new notch of stupid for the Sonic universe.

Ryuko's preview now.

So.  Only Life Fibers can harm Life Fibers.  Girl is made out of them.  Implying Shadow can't hurt her.  Ok then.  Also implying the black outfit's not even necessary, could just go naked but whatever.  I'm assuming she's shown such indestructible skin in the show or is this all just assumptions?

Also jeez, the hair is almost as ridiculous as the outfits in that show.  Does the mother have rainbow highlights but only on the inside parting of her hair?

Thanks for confusing me at first at this being a tag not working.

Looks Japanese as all hell.  Which is funny when all I hear is how Blizzard is all bedfellows with China these days.  I don't get the thematic reasoning why, but then they also apparently also added a hamster as a playable character and its meant to be taken dead serious at face value, so whatever.

To my knowledge, she doesn't have a giant spoon as a weapon.

Which I can all but guarantee is going to be referenced in the actual episode.  They've made it the killing blow the last Shadow episode, they bring it up sometimes when he showed up in DBC.  They just have a weird on-going in-joke about Shadow's weakness is spoons.

I wasn't aware Kill la Kill girl was an edge lord.  I legit thought the point of the series was making fun of that, she despised the skimpy outfit and the black and red and all the spikes and having to run through some school of other actual edgelords, getting stuck with her dead grandfather's ancestral scissor blade, because that's a thing.  And something about the ending of the series being about being true to yourself and not to cast shame on revealing your body or some hogwash like that.

I did not make it past episode 2, so I'm just going by hearsay.  Seemed to me just syndicated porn with a cop out reasoning around it at the end, I dunno.

I wasn't aware the series ever got to the realm of power and feats Sonic the Hedgehog did.  From what I recall from the Mewtwo episode, Shadow played tug-o-war with a Unicron-sized shadow demon pulling a planet back and forth.  Didn't know Kill la Kill got planetary feats.

I mean, I'm assuming the next episode is being done solely to end Shadow's losing streak.  They've made him the butt of their jokes for years now.  This is just throwing those fans a bone.

Same reason why Doom 3 is considered a "horror game".  Surprise and being underprepared.  The saying that no Pokemon game is hard rings mostly true....with hindsight.  You got a few spots where you can muscle through without thought but going in, running into someone like Red or Cynthia unaware is what's most fondly remembered.  That's it, that's the whole reason.

Also having character to her character helps.  Along with a pretty good theme song.

Oh, no, I'm not expecting it whatsoever.  That'd be too good to hope for.

I'm just saying it's the best outcome we could get if the remaining Smash DLC includes a Pokemon rep.

Also I don't particularly think they care much about number of reps per generation, as much as it would soothe our need to neatly categorize the roster like by needing one of each starter typing and such.  We have how many Kanto folks in here now?  Jigglypuff is legit there just for original anime season representation and Ultimate's rule of returning everyone.

Huh, I guess stupid realization, I just never bothered to look into Regigigas much deeper after everyone realized how much it sucks early on.  I didn't think Neutralizing Gas would work with it?  I thought Slow Start had to complete its full 5 turn run to restore its stats, removing the ability would just leave it at half capacity for the rest of the fight.

Neat.

While I would be frankly annoyed with a gen 8 pokemon showing up, now that we've moved past that and the Next Big Thing to promote is returning to gen 4, I would genuinely be very excited and quite grateful if we got Cynthia and Garchomp, an actual great Pokemon character with history and one of the most popular actual pokemon monsters as well to boot.

Not that I'm going to give myself false hope, but now is legit the best opportunity for such an inclusion, and I would imagine would be a fairly welcome one.  The Pokemon roster generally doesn't fall into the swordfighter trope of being too similar no matter what they do, a Garchomp to play as simply wouldn't play like Charizard, Mewtwo, Lucario, or any of the rest in there.  Also that brings another boss-type character to the roster, if not a "villain" per say.

Unown wouldn't make sense to evolve.  Frankly, they need to be reworked altogether because they were a gimmick for gen 2 and its accompanying movie.  Reworking it would go hand-in-hand with fixing Hidden Power though, so I'm all down for it.  I could imagine an Exodia-esque team composed of just Unown spelling some word would provide a team-wide boost or something like that.

Luvdisc is intentionally horrible to be used to farm, that can stay as is.  What doesn't need to be is Luvdisctwo.  Alomomola just being Luvdisc but again because gen 5's soft reboot deal did not pan out.  If it was a hard reboot and everything prior to gen 5 was cut out and discarded, maybe it would have some use as the new Magikarp pathetic pokemon, but as is it's just a repeat but slightly larger.  I think a neat idea would be another cross-generational pairing/rivalry like Tauros and Miltank, and just buff the two in opposite directions of usage.

I mean....it's Magikarp.  To this day the Pokemon Company upholds the tradition that the species is too stupid to live outside being too stupid to die.

A reminder this is official.

Said library also had a Pokémon become a human after sheding it's skin.
Alternative take; they add to the messed up concept and tie this to Ninjask/Shedinja.  Koga's just three Ninjask in a trenchcoat.

Didn't one of the vaguely recent Pokemon movies with Diancie have a royal family with a shiny Gardevoir relative?  And I think Pokemon Conquest never dropped this factoid in-universe, not sure since I didn't play that one?

I don't really care if others play whatever character stands out to them, have at it.  Personally, in a game about crossovers, I prefer to play as the characters I know and like.  That's all there is to it.

I also prefer to know a character first-hand as intended rather than have misconceptions seeded by artistic changes and/or censorship, which Smash is oh-so chock full of.  Don't get me wrong, Samus isn't accurate at all, she doesn't even conform to the other series getting new mainstream looks like Mario and Link and she's still stuck as Other M Samus, but I already know Metroid fairly in and out and the Smash 64 concessions to get characters in so it's not such a bother.  Also that's just Nintendo's stance on Metroid as a whole, which will never not baffle me, but that's a topic for another thread at another time.

So I wouldn't be able to try her out anyways for a while, but seems to me her Zelda/Sheik intention just made her a Cloud/faster Cloud character.  Dunno why that amuses me so, but it does.

I mean....guess good for me as I main Cloud and Samus if I ever wanted to try the character out, but I have zero connection with the character so pass.  At the very least until I someday maybe play her game when its on sale or something and potentially regret my 90 hour JRPG purchase?  Sakurai's comment on how overly detailed the character's mech outfit was in comparison to the rest of the roster made me chuckle at least, they are very out of place on the roster regardless of "worthiness" or whatnot.  They're just incredibly modern anime fanservice-y looking shmoes thrown in next to Yoshi and Pikachu.  Even the other anime swordsmen are less "anime" trope looking.

Monster Hunter mii returning kills off another persistent rumor.  At this point, what mii costumes from Smash 4 haven't come back yet?  I never bothered with them much in either game so I wouldn't know.

Huh, they're keeping classic Disney animation as a resource for King Mickey.  Ok then, that complicates things a bit....I was expecting them to just include Fantasia and The Three Musketeers for him, they're directly referenced as events that took place in KH and frankly don't matter much in the long run.  Movie media icon or not, the magic of Fantasia doesn't really matter much one way or another in this context of looking for feats.  But I figured since KH disassociates itself so much from the original takes on both Disney and FF cast (I'd say Square Enix as a whole, yet for some reason they really wanted The World Ends With You to feel authentically tied-in) they'd just stick to what's shown, you know, in KH.  Disney media is freaking vast and not exactly made for this sort of analysis. (Take that weird Scrooge McDuck speed feat where they found him throwing and catching a penny in, what, a 1940's newspaper comic?)

This also run into the contradictory nature of KH's lore to Disney lore.  Similar to Worlds being separate universes in KH but shared planets in some Disney films, KH just ignores most at-the-time modern Disney cartoon stuff.  Like, Goofy never had a son named Max.  So....where does the cut-off begin?  House of Mouse?  Disney reintroducing Oswald the Lucky Rabbit?  How about when Disney had a whole species of homicidal Goofies running around?

I was already guessing Mickey wins use to the simple multiverse scale KH runs on and Mickey has shown feats relating to compared to Star Wars' galaxy-sized stuff, but now you're also throwing in OG old as dirt cartoon physics in?  I'm more curious now how they intend to wrap him all up into one concise character than the episode now.

Episode's out now.

Spoiler, click to toggle visibilty

Ok episode overall if rather underselling the KH series.  Next is Shadow the Hedgehog versus the Kill la Kill girl.  I don't get it.  I mean, they made fun of the match-up a while back because of it just being based on their looks.  Which they shot down Mewtwo versus Frieza over.  Is this some ironic continuation of that?  Someone who's familiar with Kill la Kill, what's her connection to Shadow beyond color scheme?

Something tells me you wouldn't enjoy fishing.

Randomness isn't the be-all enemy of difficulty.  Physics engines like Half-Life or questionable reactions like Super Mario Sunshine make them all the more memorable, and I'd say from the way many remember then, fun.  Hell, I don't play them but seems people adore Xcom games, in the same breath they're bringing up how placing a gun upside someone's chin is a 50/50 chance of hitting.

There is enjoyment to be had in running your odds and holding out to beat them.  His Shadow Pokemon example is a good one, I too remember having to capture the 7 of them and, well, it was fun.

Oddly, while that's true, Pokemon Go also prety much copypasted Orre's Shadow Pokemon, concept and execution and all.  Just missing a Celebi tie-in, to my recollection.

TMs breaking after use already was brought back.  They're in Sword and Shield just under a new name.

There's just also a huge imbalance in the ratio you obtain copies of all of them to the rate you'd ever want to use them that with little effort last I checked I have some 80+ copies of most of rotting in the bag.

HMs I'm never sure how I want them to handle them.  They're intrusive, annoying in battle....and really the wall of difficulty you want in Pokemon games that's been lacking.  At least early on.  I don't have an answer how they should tackle that issue, just I'm not 100% against their removal.  Their inclusion is just one of many things to balance in your team to make it through the world map, and I liked that back in gen 1 needing to have that designated flier and someone to surf you around and working your moveset around that.  But I also wholeheartedly get why people praise moving past them.  Though I dunno why they need the games any EASIER, SwSh can be beaten in your sleep.
