Oh and I'm pretty sure that SyFy is a part of the NBC Universal mega-corporation family so this cancellation order seems well in line with Jack Donaghy's master plan to nuke the network by terminating decent shows and replacing them with God Cop or yet another run of M.I.L.F. Island.
It is last I checked.

I miss the old Sci-Fi Channel. Godzilla every Saturday, MST3K, Actually enjoyable B-movies that weren't made by The Asylum..........Damn I hate being an adult.

They actually had FXXX once. It was a shitty near-midnight block of 'adult entertainment' ie not real porn.

Really? Wow... sounds like a poor man's Skinemax.

Why couldn't they just keep their comedies on FX? Have the original comedies on FX and there you go. It's not that difficult, people.
And FX barely even has enough original content as it is now. The vast majority of stuff on it's schedule is either reruns or movies (FX HAS THE MOVIES), which makes this plan even more idiotic.

FX had some sports recently (college football and UFC coverage) but, yeah. That's FX in a nutshell: Reruns of old shows and (edited) movies with a bit of really good original programming (that is going to be split apart because whoever runs FX is probably about as smart as a vegatable)

The show was getting darker, and gaining more emotional resonance plus David Stratharin's arc in season 2 was brilliantly done.
It was surprisingly dark, like that time
Spoiler, click to toggle visibilty
And of course David Stratharin was really fucking good.

There was just so much that the new show-runners were getting right with this show
I remember when I was worried the new show runners were going to make the show lighter and more episodic. I was so happy when the exact opposite occurred. But now all of that is over because Ghost Mine and whatever the fuck that reality show about dark rooms is called. The one hosted by Urkel. UGH

In happier news, Archer's ratings have gone up, which doesn't happen most of the time for continuing shows. And even better, Charlie Sheen's shitty sitcom Anger Management has seen its ratings drop by 67%.

  • Unique, just like everyone else
They cancelled Alphas?  Well shit.  Now the only thing on that channel I'll even watch is Destination Truth and maybe some Face/Off

...why are you all looking at me like that and why are some of you holding baseball bats?

Sure the science on DT isn't exactly solid and half the show is more travel ad than anything productive, and sure they really abuse cheap tension-building tactics to sandwich commercial breaks.  But I appreciate and enjoy Gates' humor and antics along the way.  That and they honestly seem to care about trying to find whatever they're looking for, doing things you just don't see people do on similar "chasing things that may or may not be there" shows.    Plus, considering how rare it is they find anything even slightly related to what they were looking for, I'm inclined to believe they aren't making shit up for ratings like the Ghost Hunters.

As for Face/Off, I find watching them make and apply makeup and prosthetics to be an interesting process.

Godzilla news?

Godzilla news.......well more like an interview with Frank Darabont who's part of the project now.

Quote
We had the unbelievable pleasure of hosting a conversation between three amazing artists: the legendary movie poster artist Drew Struzan, director Frank Darabont and genre powerhouse actor (currently on Being Human) Sam Witwer. Throughout the week we will be sprinkling tidbits from this amazing round table and eventually releasing the entire audio file. Listening to these three creators talk what they do will knock you over. But for now, here's a taste of the awesomeness to come, starting with Darabont's thoughts on his most recent project, Godzilla (which he is currently rewriting).

Godzilla has its origins as an allegory for the atom bomb, but today it's more of a straightforward monster movie. Do you want to restore some of that allegorical significance to the franchise?

Frank Darabont: What I found very interesting about Godzilla is that he started off definitely as a metaphor for Hiroshima and Nagasaki. And some of the atom bomb testing we were doing in the South Pacific in the subsequent years. The giant terrifying force of nature that comes and stomps the shit out of your city, that was Godzilla. Filtered through the very fanciful imaginations of the Japanese perception. And then he became Clifford the Big Red Dog in the subsequent films. He became the mascot of Japan, he became the protector of Japan. Another big ugly monster would show up and he would fight that monster to protect Japan. Which I never really quite understood, the shift.

What we're trying to do with the new movie is not have it camp, not have it be campy. We're kind of taking a cool new look at it. But with a lot of tradition in the first film. We want this to be a terrifying force of nature. And what was really cool, for me, is there was a very compelling human drama that I got to weave into it. It's not that cliched, thinly disguised romance or bromance, or whatever. It's different, it's a different set of circumstances than you're used to seeing. And that's tremendously exciting as a writer when you're asked to do something else.

Sam Witwer: Is Godzilla going to represent a different kind of metaphor, something that we're dealing with as a culture? Because I'm working on a Mothra rewrite right now.

Frank Darabont: I think there is, but I do believe that there's a margin of interpretation, as Drew mentioned earlier. I love leaving a few crumbs on the table for the audience to determine what they think. Let them bring something to it as well. That's why a movie like The Green Mile is so satisfying or why The Mist is so satisfying to me. Because it stirs their participation and they have interpretation. I've heard metaphors that people apply to Shawshank Redemption, for example, that are fantastic that I never, ever would have thought of. And I say, you know what? You are absolutley right. That is exactly what it means to you. And how satisfying for me to have served you this meal and you identify flavors in it that I never even intended. That's one of the great rewards of what we do.

Sam Witwer: And then also pretending like you did it on purpose.

Frank Darabont: That's sometimes true. It depends on how much you want your ass kissed.

Are you looking to connect it to a different contemporary issue?

Frank Darabont: Yes I am, but I'm not going to give it away.

That's just a taste folks — stay tuned for a whole lot more, including some of the most amazing stories we've ever heard, courtesy of the master artist Drew Struzan.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon may get a sequel. Ang Lee is not expected to return, but the fight choreographer from the first movie will. And the director will be... the guy who directed Freddy vs. Jason. But then again, his Chinese films have been much better than that so who knows.

And here I thought a Liefeld movie would be about his never ending struggle to draw feet.

Movie ends with a close up of his feet, which are actually diamond shaped points otherwise unrecognizable as feet, and Stan Lee waking from a nightmare, breathing a sigh of relief, standing up out of bed to find his feet have been Liefelded and screaming all over again while they cut to credits.

Damn, beaten to it.

I don't know.  Giamatti can do big stupid action well enough.  Did you ever see Shoot 'Em Up?

I'm weirded out because it is apparently a lifelong dream role for him.  I just can't wrap my head around that part.

Perhaps he's drawn to comical impotency of the character. What IS the Rhino, after all, but the culmination of every Paul Giamatti role ever in a fugly gray Rhino suit?

Yes, I'm also including the time he played Elmer Fudd in Shoot 'Em Up. Critical part of the Rhino's psyche.

What else has Cartoon Network killed off here? I noticed in the comments that the Thundercats reboot got the axe as well.

Please tell me it's not true?

It's true. Cartoon Network's handling of its non-comedy shows has been absolutely atrocious.

:(

It's one of the few things I was glad to see comeback. Now, I am a sad (and lonely since I'm probably the only one who gave a damn about the Thundercats reboot) panda.
