Nintendo gets tired of whiny fans, says "make your own damn games, then."

I mean, having no horse in the race whatsoever it seems pretty clear cut to me what's gonna happen when you put someone with superpowers and magic against someone without either.  You could probably say it was a bad matchup from the start but I don't think their conclusion was faulty.

Weiss vs Mitsuru to me feels more like the characters just matched thematically so perfectly that the matchup was decided on the concept alone before the actual skill comparison revealed it to be a one-sided sweep.

Admittedly I've only ever seen KFP 1 and none of the sequels or spin-offs, but two things I remember about Po that will probably come up as being important is that 1) his fat panda physiology makes him more or less invulnerable to any nerve or pressure point based attacks, and 2) he has what is basically an instant one-hit kill move with that finger hold thing he did at the very end of the movie.  He literally just flexes his pinky and causes an explosion several miles in diameter.  I can't imagine DB wouldn't drag that out to its logical conclusion.

God, please no more Goku.  The discourse surrounding him is always so fucking toxic.

On a more positive note, I am 100% on board for this next fight.  Kung Fu Panda in Death Battle, let's go.  This show's a lot more fun when they go goofy with it, because it doesn't end with a buttload of salty-ass nerds/weebs/weebnerds throwing a bitch fit.

....Also what the hell kind of raid takes place 2B's small shuttle bedroom?  That sterile cot fit for military service has standing room for about 2-4 people in it.  What, is it some elaborate 9S hacking boss taking place on the Web?  How do the FF cast even get to the space station?  And any sort of battle results in the whole station blowing up, there's multiple scenarios that have just that happen in Automata.  Even a joke one when you self-destruct on it, killing everyone.

One raid dungeon is called "The Puppets' Bunker" which is based off the Bunker from Automata.  You follow a path through the structure, and one of the side rooms you can access is 2B's room.  There's no boss fight or any encounter there, but from what I've come to understand it's a faithful recreation from the source game.  Mostly just an easter egg.

And the fight doesn't actually take place in space.  To go into a bit more detail, the dimensional rift basically caused simulacra of locations from Automata (The Abandoned Factory, the Bunker, and the Tower) and all the technology therein to crash into FFXIV world some several thousand years before civilization sprang up there;  long enough for plate tectonics and the formation of mountain ranges to hide it all away in a series of lost caves and valleys where it stayed in hibernation until some dwarven miners and engineers accidentally found it and started turning stuff back on.

You must be referring to the YoRHa:  Dark Apocalypse quest in Final Fantasy XIV.  It's an optional storyline and a series of 24-player raids based off of Nier: Automata.  All the new bosses and areas are modeled after ones found in Automata; in one of them you can even find 2B's bedroom.  Nothing super-earth shattering in terms of story;  A standard issue "rift between dimensions" dumps a boatload of buildings, tech, and other junk from the NieR universe into the FFXIV universe.  An android named 2P creates an army of replicas of herself to conquer/destroy Eorzea because of reasons, and 2B and 9S show up and join forces with the Warriors of Light to stop her.

As far as NieR lore goes you get a pretty hefty dump of it shoehorned in via random notes to collect.  I will say that when I started playing through that questline I knew literally nothing about NieR or it's lore, and by the time I finished it I felt like I knew significantly less.

Pretty predictabo outcome, but still a pretty good episode overall.

Next episode is a rare matchup where I know literally nothing about either of the characters, not even to hazard a guess at what makes them comparable.

Injustice is made by the same developer as Mortal Kombat.  How is that in any way relevant?  It doesn't matter what Netherrealm thinks about using MK characters, they're not the ones calling the shots.  This is a Nintendo game we're talking about.  A different company in a different country with a different core market and demographic with a different ratings board to answer to.

And that still doesn't address the fact that an MK character, stripped of literally everything that makes an MK character interesting and iconic and reduced to a barebones set of pure functions, would be boring as fuck and please nobody.  Non-MK fans would wonder who this generic ninja with a generic set of ninja moves is and why he's there, and MK fans would be pissed that Scorpion had to have a babality performed on him just to get in the front door.

Yes, yes, it is technically possible for a moveset to be created for an MK character in Smash.  That was never my point.  My point was that if they took the time and effort to strip away everything they had to to make the character CERO compliant, they'd also be removing anything that would make them unique from other characters already in Smash.  As I said the last time this discussion came up, it's be an immense amount of hoops they'd have to force themselves to jump through only to wind up with a heavily diluted version of a character that Japanese fans mostly wouldn't even recognize and Western fans would find generic and uninspired to play as.

On another note, a Bowser's Fury spirit board event is happening now.  Get your kitties and kaijus before they're gone.

That's the thing of it, though.  Without everything that makes Mortal Kombat what it is, I don't feel like MK characters really offer anything that would be particularly innovative or interesting in Smash Bros' style.  At least nothing that Ryu, Ken, and Terry aren't already bringing to the table.  Take away the ultra-violence, the brutalities, the fatalities - retrofit everything in Scorpion's kit to be CERO-friendly and you're left with some pretty generic moves.  Fire breath.  Tether grab.  Teleport kick.  Nothing that someone else isn't already doing.

I mean, if you want an example of how milquetoast a defanged Mortal Kombat experience can be, look no further than Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe.

Sakurai has never said anything specific about Mortal Kombat to my knowledge, but there's no reasonable reason to expect they have any sort of chance of getting in.  When you combine the fact that MK isn't published or sold in Japanese markets and how they'd have to strip away everything that makes an MK character an MK character for them to fit with the Smash Bros tone and rating, you'd wind up with a heavily watered-down version of a character that Eastern players wouldn't know or give a shit about and Western players would be disappointed in how they were represented.

Doesn't Heihachi have some kind of weird "get-young-again" potion that he uses to make himself as physically fit as he was in his prime?  IIRC that's what they used to justify using his young appearance in Tekken Tag 2 and PSABR.  I'm not particularly well kept on my Tekken lore so I can't remember if that's a canon thing or not.

Fair play, but Geese doesn't really have that one substantial feat.  True, he survived falling off a skyscraper that one time, but then later he fell of the same skyscraper and died, so it's kind of a wash.

I think this is going to be another one that comes down to the volume of lore and reference material to draw from, like Scrooge McDuck/Shovel Knight and Samurai Jack/Afro Samurai.  Just by the very nature of how the two series' are written and handled, Heihachi has had a lot more opportunities to demonstrate things Geese doesn't have a counter for.

Eh.  General idea was right, some odd choices is all.  So yeah, they gave Lex the defense of Hal Jordon by relation to Larfleeze, so there wasn't a think Doom could do physically to hurt Lex but it just didn't matter in the end due to what Doom won with.

To be fair, the mental gymnastics of "Lex Luthor is singlehandedly as powerful as the entire Green Lantern Corp. because he fought against Larfleeze one time" was never going to stand up to any kind of scrutiny.
