the walking backwards feels... I dunno... incomplete? that sudden turn of direction looks awful
this is just my suggestion but why not instead of using a mirrored walk forward animation, use the same walk forward animation but played in reverse so he keeps facing the opponent
or if looking away from the opponent is how's intended, why not use the turn around animation at the begining and the end of teh walk backwards animation so the change of direcction he's facing doesn't look incomplete

Does the whistle hyper still randomize who attacks? Like Bullet Bill, chargin chuck, etc? You could even throw in Thwomp
