Title: Pokémon Scarlet/Violet (Generation 9)
Post by: DarkWolf13 on February 28, 2022, 06:05:35 am
Ninth Generation of the series coming late 2022. Starters are grass cat Sprigatito, fire croc Fuecoco, and water duckling Quaxly. It's also said to be an open world game like Pokémon Legends: Arceus and yet we have towns, cities and stuff.
Any thoughts on this? I'm already leaning towards Sprigatito and already picking Scarlet unless there's exclusives I want to have that are in Violet.

Also you forgot to mention that seems like this new region is based off of Spain/Portugal (from the looks of the map and the names). Sprigatito is easily the most likable of the three. Fuecoco is very meh... Quaxly is.. fine. I see nothing special with them for now, gotta wait to see the fully evolved forms, but IMO they are very weak in terms of design lol

The duck looks like it's wearing a hat with a W on it.

Gimme my spicy alligator.
Honestly? This the first time in three gens that a starter lure my attention.
IDK, remind me to the dinosaurs from that old Bubble Bobble game.

It looks like it's the first time for the fire starter to not inspired from the chinese zodiacal. I was expecting a little ox just to fit on the new region.

you could argue that Fuecoco is based on Year of the Dragon
Anyway, Sprigatito is the only good starter design here, the other two are fucking dumb

Still time for its evolution to somehow be a snake. Litten looks nothing like a tiger.
I love Sprigo's design and already people are rallying up to ensure it stays on four legs for its evolution. Hoping Fuecoco doesn't turn out to be a defensive tank. Fire types do not do well on that.
Also wondering if some elements like move changes from Arceus will stick around such as the adjustments to Stealth Rock.

Spoiler: the leaks are real(click to see content)
There will be a new kind of Pokémon feature called Paradox forms that have familiar Pokémon travel in time but come back very warped. One case is Jigglypuff being some kind of Vampire.

Mirror Herb is an interesting item. For example, your Mon uses Prankster Swagger in Doubles to one of your opponent's and the holder gets the boost without effort. Lots of potential tricks in VGC.
Tera typings get their own boosted Hidden Power that can either by Physical or Special depending on what it higher for one turn.

I like how Tera Blast uses the higher Atk stat to ensure any type of attacker can use it. Covert Cloak is definitely gonna flip things on their head since it's basically Shield Dust the ability.
Spoiler: Leak Talk(click to see content)
In terms of leaks. It is said the Gym Leaders will use Pokemon that are not their specialty type but their Tera Types are. Meaning Grusha may have a Pokemon with the Tera Type of Ice and then Terastallize them. Also pointing out in the leaks that some abilities were nerfed like Intrepid Sword and Protean. I'll allow leaks to be spoken of here as they can keep the convo going. But please use tag spoilers if you're going to talk about leaks!

Seeing that abilities might be nerfed to actually make compeditive battling a bit more balanced would be a lot of changes....if the leaks are true. But so far, we're doing good. That Shed Tail ability might be a bit overkill, though.

Ok.
I'll be honest, these two look dumb and excessive, looking more like Digimons!
but I like them.

Woot that design reminds of Mega Man X games.

For me, remember Megaman Starforce 3 (Red Joker and Black Ace) designs.
