Sprited a new tied animation for April based off of the classic 1989 arcade.
Spoiler, click to toggle visibilty

D'cat is D'man!

(But you already knew that!)

You even improved on the original sprites from the '89 Arcade game!

I'm amazed at how good you are at drawing your own sprite animations!  That's a skill that just amazes me.

I am curious, however, as to your decision making process on the April color palettes for that sprite rip of her with Shredder.  I can see you tried to match Mirage palette with Mirage palette and Manhattan Project palette with Manhattan Project palette, but did the other variants have some logic behind as well.  I'm scratching my head about the one on the bottom left.

EDIT: I'm thinking for his special Desperation Attack that Shredder should throw a thermite grenade at the opponent like he did in the comic book but it backfired. Does anybody have scans of the tmnt & Shredder fight on the rooftop from the original comic I can use as reference?

While they aren't exactly high resolution scans, you can still access all the old comics that used to be hosted on the official NinjaTurtles.com site (through Internet Archive):

Oh wow, dcat, that is so great!

As far as I'm concerned, "TMNT 1 NES" Shredder is really stealing the show!

About the cellphone one, why not having the cell beep, he answers, and Krang tells him that he must go elsewhere. Shredder angrily proclaims he was just about to kill you, but Krang insists Shredder goes. Shredder angrily hops like an angry manchild refusing to go but finally succumbs to Krangs will.

I don't remember which episode it was, but that scene was so hilarious. XD

You're thinking of "Turtles on Trial," which is pretty much my favorite stand-alone episode of the show!

Also, Enscripture, those are some amazing sprite rips!  I've always wanted the "captured Splinter" sprite rip from SNES Tournament Fighters!

A idea for his winning poses:

#1: Shredder calls his foot clans and the foot clans bows for Shredder. Much like Dr. Doom.

#2: Shredder get a phone call from Krang and says that he complete his mission.

#3: Shredder will take off his helmet and says something from his victory.

and #4 (joke winning pose): Shredder will dance and sings "I HATE MUSIC" from TMNT: Coming out of their shell.

How about that?

Ha!  Those sound funny!  I'll add:

*Grabbing April O'Neil and jumping off screen (ala TMNT Arcade Game)

*Jumping into a Drill Module that arises from the ground and then goes back down (another Arcade Game homage)

*Pulling out either the Eye of Sarnoth or Dark Mutastone and proclaiming victory.

*Stealing another piece of porcelain for his collection (yes, he did have such a collection in the Fred Wolf cartoon!)

I see what you mean by "too early to post." Although he obviously looks rough due to being so preliminary, he already exhibits that smoothness in his combo ability. Nice!!

Is it me, or does he appear a little too tall??

I actually thought he was a bit too tall upon first glance, as well.

But all of the turtles are sorta hunched over in a fighting stance, so maybe that's what is throwing my vision off.

Its gonna be just another one of those OK characters that Dcat makes.

Nothing big here. :curtain:

The heck is this supposed to mean?!?

I'm relatively new around here, so I'll just assume you're making an inside joke that I don't understand.

Everything I've seen dcat make on Mugen is great, but his TMNT line takes the cake.  When people think of Shredder characters in Mugen, the horribly broken "Psycho Shredder" comes to mind.  Dcat is finally giving us something balanced and visually appealing.

A one hit kill?? Sounds cheap to me. But with Dcat's talents, anything is possible.

Thanks thanks on the good idea comments!

Just hope Dcat can do something like that..and nope wouldn't be cheap to the point you would get annoyed from it.

In fact, it won't happen every single time (I believe it doesn't always happen with White and all you have to do is keep in mind he might attempt that trick at the end and you are fine)

If you have faced Rin and Bat's White, you know it's easy to avoid but there are those few times he gets you.  Anyway, I think this fits Shredder so perfectly!

I might be in the odd minority here, but I spend a lot of my time on Mugen's Watch Mode.  I think it's a good way to see how comparable characters are.  Would the CPU be able to recognize a post-battle desperation attack and get out of the way?

But I agree, an attack like that would fit Shredder perfectly!  If not a retro-mutagen ray gun, perhaps he could use a "thermite grenade" in reference to his final desperate attack in the very first TMNT comic book.

Hmmm, he should have some colour seperation on his face and eyes aswell, for thoce who likes the modern, shadowed face, Shredder. Or the comic book Shredder, did'nt he also have a shadowed face? :S

BTW, an idea on his time over lose. There was an episode where had the opportunity to KILL the Turtles, but Krang ordered him to go someplace else. Shredder shouts angrily into the walkie talkie device, stomping the ground like an angry child over not getting to kill the Turtles.

That would be the awesome "Turtles on Trial" episode from the third season!

Color separation on the face/eyes would be a great idea for alternate color schemes.  Great observation, rukifellth!

Foot soldiers for sure...but, don't forget about his two favorite henchmen...Bebop and Rocksteady!  They should make some sort of appearance in a special..maybe just firing their guns or appearing from both sides and ramming/crashing into each other (I remember that happening in the TMNT game when you fought them both) it would count as a hit to the opponent, but also look like they screwed it up as usual.   :sugoi:

Oh, I loved it when Rocks and Bebop ended up hurting themselves trying to crush the turtles.  That fact makes me think it would be funny if R&B helper attacks/specials had the possibility of backfiring on Shredder on occasion, like accidentally restoring a turtles' health or damaging Shredder as opposed to the intended target.  Would something like that be either feasible or practical, dcat?

I give credit to artists and programmers who can add some originality to their created characters as opposed to just ripping sprites and attacks from existing games.

I am envious of all those master sprite artists and coders who can bring their imagination to life for the rest of us to enjoy.

Dcat, how is it that you continue to amaze me after all these years?

wowow, looks badass man! keep up!
Liked the second animation, with rapid punches, kinda reminds me of his special attack in TMNT Tournament Fighters on NES.

Totally what I was thinking as well!

Other ideas for this character

-hittable Foot Soldier goons.
-having a full-screen attack where he slices through certain sections and the opponent must dodge. Like Mr. Chau's attack in Scott Pilgrim vs the World The Game
-Of course, retro-mutagen! Ripped these from the 1st arcade game specifically with that in mind

I like all those ideas!  But my favorite is probably the notion of hittable Foot Soldiers.  That would be so great and creative!

Dcat, I'm really glad you are going with the Turtles-in-Time Arcade version of Shredder!   ;D

I'm guessing the SNES/Genesis "Super Shredder" sprites will be used as an alternate form or for special attacks.

Also, that Krang mini-gun animation looks awesome.  Although I wasn't sure how to interpret it when I first saw it.  The gun is placed at an awkward angle.   --;

I love that Milton Knight artstyling on Dr. R!  I can practically hear Jim Cummings voicing him!  The animations look very good.

EDIT:

Wait.. my bad, Cummings did the voice in the other two DiC Sonic cartoons.

I meant to say Long John Baldry.  Although I think Cummings did record for the AoStH pilot.
