[Party] said, June 22, 2011, 11:06:31 pmCVS Style =! Applying antialiasing to anything.Excuse me for being an idiot, but I dont understand what this means.
It means there's more to a CvS sprite than adding anti-aliasing to it. You have to do the proportions and size and shit right too.Unless you wanted to know what antialiasing was. In that case, it's the barely used second shade of color that you put everywhere.
Nothing to do with your criticism to Karasai, that's fair enough, but if you're trying to use ascii for stuff like 3º and 1º, it isn't working. If you're trying to say 3rd and 1st, there's a button for superscript.
what about mine?EDIT: New one. Limited to 15 colors, the first ones palette was kinda messed up. Is this a good base for a character? or what should i fix?
Garuda said, June 23, 2011, 03:30:39 pmIt looks like you you have just changed the colors...Nope i did the second one pretty much from scratch, though i copy/pasted the arms and edited them a bit. And yes, colors are changed too. But what should i change?+Jhun Hoon. shoes arent color separated, so they look weird.and Bao EDIT: Oh you mean i just changed the palette of the KOF sprite? No.
Those look pretty good to me though one thing that irks me is that when you add in anti-aliasing your second shade basically outlines your third shade 1:1. You should break it up some. I don't know how to explain how or where to do it, but just look at some other CvS sprites that has clothing at similar angles.(edit: I take that back. Firefox's blurry zooming has failed me again.)It's also worth mentioning that different types of material are shaded differently. Cloth, metal, leather, skin and more are handled differently from each other so keep that in mind. There may also be an issue with the light source being KoF-ish, but I'm no good at spotting that so take that with a shaker of salt =P.
The very top on Bao's hat doesn't have anti-aliasing. You should add some a little bit darker tone, which I mean the second to the lightest.
Edited the leg and the socks.Edit: @Enso (Posted before i saw your post) Is that what you meant with anti-aliasing the hat? (only added a few lines)
I'll say one more thing about what CVS Style is, and what it's not.KOF sprites don't translate well into Capcom style in general because KOF sprites are meant to have realistic proportions, meaning even if you entirely change the shading on a sprite to have antialiasing, it will not automatically look like a CVS sprite (are you reading me dampir?)The Capcom style, like most of us knows at this point, is derived from scanned sketches. Capcom style is exactly about that, STYLE - outlines, cool poses. If you want to make your sprite look like Capcom style, you need to take the lines to another level, where they have character and look stylish. The sprite above needs that.
