1st off I absolutely love this. Second, of all I think the number of ppl around that could make SF3 animations can be counted on 1 hand. Of all the styles it's the least likely to find collaborators IMO

(In response to Ink):

Oh Im sure most people would love too. Me in a heartbeat. But I think what is stopping most is the lack of time or skill. I've been studying your techniques and SF3/CPS3 characters in general but there isnt much information on how it could be done. And those that do have the ability to make such a character are a select few.

What could be more beneficial is a community that is formed to figure out the puzzle of the style. So that it isnt so much of a mystery and the techniques are more widely available. From there, those with an affinity for animation/color separation/etc.  would be able to combine what they already know into making more characters in the style

Thanks guys!

This is probably where I'm going to leave this for a while. I know it needs some cleaning up still but I'm eager to jump back into SF3 M.Bison. I did end up changing up the face a little, let me know what you think.

Also I've been thinking! Who would be interested in contributing to a community made SF3 character??

Using Morrigan as an example, I thought it could work something like this.>>> If anyone makes a SF3 animation that matches these sprites I would reward you with a new Morrigan animation. We would of course vote on a character worth doing this with. I personally would prefer an actual SF character. Your thoughts please!

Morrigans
That face needs a new Face. (Looking like Ken from SFV)
The stand pose: She is warming up to dance ?with her goofy shoulder tuck and rotating gears (hands)
The fix: Make the animation more subtle. There is too
much movement in the upper torso; rotate arms less,
and lessen movement for legs as well.

Pros:
Good.
animation is smooth, just need minor fixes. ( FACE)
I'm impressed.
I like it.

Suggestions:
Nude mod. Make it in a way we can Nude mod. So much yes to this. Everyone can Thank me later for this great idea.

Thank you? There's a lot of porn for you to wank over.

Guess we'll pass. But Ink has made something no one and you're giving him tips about the stance and etc. Could you show us an animation made by you?plzthnxbye.

Ink: finding someone with your skills in sf3 is pretty impossible.
I swear there was something cool here!!

Not to side with the guy, given his track record, but the physical (in)ability to sprite should not dictate the validity of one's feedback regarding pixel art. I can't sprite, but that doesn't mean I'm unable to notice oddities in spritework.

Oh, I want a diagram. I fucking love diagrams.

Yes, you're right. But before throwing those lines, he should have informed about WHO was Ink basing Morrigan's stance(he even said it was lilith, don't remember if here or in his own topic). Or not noting that SF3 stances are or calm as Hell or fluidly exagerated as F****. Look at Alex, Shotos, Hugo or Dudley (naming a few) for the second case. This Morrigan, aside being awesomely sprited, follows this second branch. Maybe Ink should have used the subtle, Morrigan's original stance, but in the end, it's up to him. Aside, the face was fixed...so I don't get why he's still complainig about it.

Back on topic:
@Ink: There's just a selected few who can properly sprite in SF3 style. Judas, Kiwi, Chamat or eFeX are the first names I came to.  Guess Balmsold(he's getting awesome at animating!!), Prodigy(aka Lavoris) are fine too at this, but they have their own book.

I'd be interested, but I'm short in time...and my skills has decreased, being honest. I even tried your SF3 method...and the result was terrible :(. Guess it would be more feasible a thing using SF3 proportions and CvS shading. Maybe adding black outlines at some parts for giving a more "graffitti" look to them, but this is just my humble opinion.
I swear there was something cool here!!

Truly exceptional work on Morrigan.  Personally I'd make the eyebrows a bit lighter, but everything else is perfect.

Also I've been thinking! Who would be interested in contributing to a community made SF3 character??

The problem with this is that you're the best at what you do as far as I know.  Finding people on your level to work with in any stage of your process will be nigh impossible.

Does the animation have to be based off a particular character IP? i.e. CPS3 Rikuo animation for a CPS3 Morrigan animation? Or can the participants go original or choose whatever character they please to animate in this style?

I'll admit that Morrigan seemed a bit jerky to me as well, but I think it's mostly due to her animation being sped up too fast. I slowed down the animation above a bit. The shoulders still drop down a bit too suddenly for me, but it doesn't take away from Morrigan's smooth seductive vibe so much at this speed.

One thing that needs to be fixed, imo, is the neck. It being straight up and down is not a good look. Pushing it inward just one pixel width will help it look more natural.

I was going over the original sprite sheet for Morrigan and noticed that your new version has some thick muscular thighs and legs, which I was totally mesmerized by. I wonder how your updated Morrigan would look like in CPS2 (16 colors). Frankly, I'm quite interested in seeing what you have planned for your CPS3 rendition.
I know that she appears a lot thicker than usual but with the correct aspect ratio applied she looks perfect. Her chest and body movement doesn’t seem nearly as exaggerated either.

No, the idea is to chose one character and us work on the sprite set as a group. If there were people willing to participate we would vote on what character to make. I’m offering to do one animation for each one made by another artist.(half the character)

I don’t see this as an improvement. The jerking motion in this animation is very purposeful. With out a sudden movement like that, there would be no reason for her chest to move in that way. You can see how odd the chest looks in your version.

Okay. Thank you for clarifying.

Maybe I'll contribute if it picks up steam, but you gotta keep in mind that CPS3 is pretty much your lane, so its going to be hard to find people to get into this.

i mean i would if i could, but i can barely do one cps3 sprite as it is, doing animations would be tricky

The idea isn’t just to get a new sf3 style character and It’s not about if you can or can’t make perfect sprites/animation. It’s really more about community and getting people excited in the forum. If anyone has an interest in learning how to make sf3 sprites/animations a project like this would be a good one to get started.

I remember the graphic section different. There’s a lot more “I can’t do it” attitude now.

Is Mugen CVS now? I guess we could try something similar for cvs style...

Then why not an intermediate style between both? Exagerated proportions as SF3 and less amount of colours(and brighter), as in cvs. Srite size could be bigger

Could it be that we just dont know how? People arent saying they CANT make a sprite/animation, just that the style requires a certain skill level that most cant reach.

I wouldn't be interested in offering the same deal as I was for a sf3 project but I would love to see any community based project honestly. I do think it's more likely for people to get on board with a style that is already established though.

Could it be that we just dont know how? People arent saying they CANT make a sprite/animation, just that the style requires a certain skill level that most cant reach.
I personally don't believe this, if you want to be great at something you just work towards it. You have to start somewhere. I do understand that people don't feel like making certain things.

:bulb2: I updated the first post of my "SF3 Animation/Sprite Process Tutorial(ish)" thread with my SF3 Morrigan work files. I thought you guys might be interested in those.
