Last time they tried to make him dark involving that whole marriage thing we got a terrible story, and Spidey works better as a deadpan snarker hero than grimdark hero.

Dark, gritty, aggressive?  I'm getting sick of this "Let's make it like Batman" mentality.  Spider-Man's optimism and never-failing good attitude is what makes him work so well.  Another "dark" hero is just so bland...

Depends on what book; like, I'd say it makes the middling to kinda bad ones (like Millar's X-Men and Ultimates and I dunno that one with Ultimate Batman and Robin knockoffs) seem like masterpieces. But nothing will ever make Loeb's stuff a masterpiece. Not even Catwoman (my face doesn't appear for 2 pages, but you can see my ass and tits as I get dressed!) or Batman (Joker cuts his face off for some reason) or Suicide Squad (Amanda Waller is now a thin woman in her late 20's, also juggalette Harley Quinn is making out with Deadshot after she put the Joker's severed face over his mask). Those still don't come close to the systematic destruction of an entire line perpetrated by Loeb.

TBH, I liked Ultimate Spider Man b4 the Loeb Massacre of the line, and of course the "NEW AND IMPROVED ULTIMATE SPIDER MAN" who was an obvious PR stunt from the get go.

I wonder what Animal Man (which so far seems like the only good new 52 comic to me) makes Loeb's stuff look like.

They were recently talking about making 2099 come back, so it might fit, though I wouldn't say it's automatically that.
Miles may be called a PR stunt but at the end of the day it's not illogical, demographically speaking, and using Spider-Man is better than characters like Luke Cage who only looks like Dumb Muscle at first glance, and Black Panther is rare. Why not, no reason to hate it just for that. They only have to make it look decent.

More seriously: the book had a very unique narrative and way of looking at a zombie apocalypse and the movie has basically discarded every single thing from the book save for the name. I understand that there was no way a movie version would use the mockumentary format and I made piece with that when the movie was first announced, but this trailer is just... awful. I mean, goddamn fucking seas of CGI zombies climbing over one another like it's the battle of fucking Helm's Deep. The GOT TO SAVE MY FAMILY subplot. Brad Pitt being the chosen hero who must save humanity for some reason. And of course they're fast zombies because fuck you.

It just feels like this was made by Roland Emmerich, with the CGI tidal waves taken out and replaced by hordes of CGI fast moving zombies.

Seriously, I am so fucking pissed off. >:[
