Title: Anyone know anything about extrating character 3d models?
Post by: Sheng Long on October 27, 2014, 06:17:48 am
Specifically, anyone know how to rip character/player/enemy 3d models from N64 games? I want to try and make a papercraft model of a character, and or maybe sew up an upscaled version of it if I ever find the time to learn to do things. I read some models can be imported into other 3d modeling/viewer software and then exported as another file type to sue for papercraft making software. But I don't know for sure. That's why I want to know if anyone here knows anything about that.

Hello.
An easy way is: download FRAPS,get a screenshot, with Photoshop or idem sofware, clean the image, resize, etc.
I tried to extract models from certain games and the process can be tough, some requires decompile it,sometimes after extract that needs another software like 3dMax or Maya to view the 3d model.
There is a tutorial about "convert 3d images to 2d sprites" by Judas:
http://judas.piiym.net/3dtut/ (http://judas.piiym.net/3dtut/)

maybe this could be useful (for Unity games):

I hope ,that helps ya.

I don't need the 3D model to redraw in sprite form. I just wanted the character game models so I can see if I can convert them into papercraft modeling. Or perhaps sew something together.

I have already tried just regular screen capture from emulators, but you only get one shot of a particular angle to work with. But oh well, thanks anyway. :)
