No, the reason Virtua Fighter was dead for so long was because it simply wasn't Sonic, and Sonic (and also Puyo Puyo and Like A Dragon) was the only thing Sega cared about for a long time.

Hell, by the time the first Virtua Fighter games got released, other fighting games already had a bigger focus on story (such as King of Fighters and Street Fighter Alpha), so the Virtua Fighter games leaving the story out of the game itself was a deliberate choice.

Virtua Fighter isn't the kind of game that serves you the story on a silver plater. You have to WORK for it by doing your own damn research, and that's what made Virtua Fighter stand out, and a dedicated Story Mode would take all of that away.

why does it have to be a reboot?! why can't it be just, ya know, Virtua Fighter 6?!

and why do they have to add a story mode to a Virtua Fighter game?! not having an in-game story is part of Virtua Fighter's identity! give it a story mode, and it's no longer a Virtua Fighter game

god, that's about as garbage of a decision as removing insta-kills from Guilty Gear Strive was

...is seriously not a single spriter interested in Yamcha?

Yamcha is such a great DB character that got ruined by DBZ and especially DB Super, and it frustrates me that people see Yamcha as nothing more than a joke JUST because of his appearances in DBZ and DB Super.

Character assassination right there, folks

hmm...well, for starters, I wanna do the number one weirdest omission in HDBZ: Yamcha

why he is still not playable even to this day is beyond me tbh

Well, you could simply grab a spritesheet from an EB character you want to code and make a z2i version, this will also show your coding skills.
If the character is not even in EB, then it would be really difficult that an artist would like to spend time spriting a full sheet if there is no warranty the coder has the skills to complete a character.

...EB? You mean Extreme Butoden? Because absolutely NONE of the characters I wanna make are in that game...

While you would like to work on characters you would like to see. You have to be a team player. There are a lot of moments when coders are busy and another has to assist to keep things progressing.

I understand that...I am just saying that because I have noticed that HDBZ has some...really REALLY glaring omissions in terms of playable characters, and I want to fix that.

EVO will NEVER have Smash anymore. After all, Sony owns EVO now, and Sony absolutely HATES Nintendo.

is this where I suggest characters for HDBZ and/or offer my services to the team? because I would like to make certain characters for HDBZ, but only the characters that I actually want to see playable myself

that said, I can only program and suck at spriting, so...I would need a sprite artist to team up with me as well (so I can do the actual juicy coding part of the character).
Anyway, is this the right place for suggesting characters for HDBZ and/or offering my services to the team?

It's possible this game won't have as many characters as BT3 (which has the 2nd most characters in any fighting game roster), but it's silly to think it wouldn't have a bloated roster. If the roster isn't obscenely oversaturated or unbalanced, it's not an arena anime fighter.

yeah, no

if the roster doesn't have at least as many characters as BT3, then it won't be bloated enough to be worthy of the Budokai Tenkaichi name

By the way are you planning to hack a rom or remake it for Ikemen?

I can't say anything about future MUGEN/IKEMEN plans as of this moment, but let's just say I have...a good reason to be interested in all the feedback I am receiving.

Also, I have noticed that I have gotten a few suggestions regarding new mechanics or mechanics changes, but no feedback regarding possible buffs or nerfs for the pre-existing COTA characters...
Would be nice to hear those, too. After all, a second revision does rebalance playable characters as well.

EX versions of characters...interesting...I better note it down, too

They should have add Spiderman early as a secret character.

Spiderman was usual Xmen guest character in comics before Capcom had hold Xmen IP

Spidey has cross Xmen video games countless times from the snes, genesis, gb and the PSX activision XMen FG

As for Xmen characters

They should had gone with Sabertooth, Rogue and Gambit as early but it looks like Marvel Exec are the one that dictates the character in COTA since its more of a comic promotion for characters active in a saga that time but in Japan XMen 90s cartoons are the familiar and accessible to the masses than the 90s comicbooks becauseof import requirements

As for mechanics

MVC1 ExtraPartner would do wonders to XMen Cota like having other character like Cable, Jean, ProfX, Bishop, Jubilee, Forge, Mystique, Toad and etc that appeared in the cartoons.

dully noted...

I do have to say: I would have at least made Sabertooth, Rogue and Gambit playable as well...
...sure, they'd be just downports of their X-Men vs Street Fighter selves with any necessary balancing changes done, but hey, that's still something
and in the case of Rogue, it would mean more X-Men characters she can steal moves from  :mlol:

For a Super XMCOTA'CE Turbo Penultimate Hyper Edition, I guess they would have added Gambit, Rogue, Sabretooth, and maybe Omega Red.  Longer arcade mode with chance of mirror matches.
...wait, Omega Red was already playble in vanilla COTA

I dunno.  I'm not super familiar with what is actually different from COTA and later games in terms of gameplay besides the obvious.  It's already a lot like the MVC games.  I guess COTA didn't have any of the special blocking from MSH or MVC, so maybe push blocking would make the cut in an update.
MSH/MVC push blocking, noted

Tag mode as Capcom did later in X Men vs SF later.
hmm...that might be a bit too large of a change for a simple revision, but...I'll note that down anyway, just in case

Honestly... a better roster. Like, I get that there is an absence of villains probably because that game was based on earlier versions of the show, but even then there are some characters like Jean and Jubilee who could actually be there and have cool movesets. Hell, revisions with later seasons of the show including more villains like Mr. Sinister and the Hellfire Club would be nice, choices like Silver Samurai and Omega Red are so questionable considering how little they showed up in the show.
...well, a second revision wouldn't remove characters from the first revision, so Silver Samurai and Omega Red would have to stay, that's for sure

...how about suggestions that have nothing to do with PotS or any other MUGEN creator?

Just...assume for a moment that MUGEN doesn't exist.

My apologies if this is the wrong section for this, but I have an interesting question to ask.

As you may know, in December 1994/January 1995, Capcom released the beloved cult classic "X-Men: Children of the Atom" on their CP System 2, marking the beginning of Capcom's FG venture in the Marvelverse.

You may also know that Capcom likes to make updated revisions to some of their games (most notably Street Fighter 2 and later on Street Fighter 4 & 5)...something they did not do with X-Men COTA.

Which is where my question comes in: if Capcom would have made an updated revision of "X-Men Children of the Atom", which improvements would you guys liked to see?

Which tweaks to the main game mechanics would you guys want to see from such an updated revision? And which characters would you guys want to see rebalanced, be it with buffs/nerfs or otherwise? Please let me know, complete with a proper explanation as to why you feel that way.
It would be very interesting to hear that!

Suggested game mechanics changes so far:
  • push blocking (from MSH/MvC onwards)
  • tag mode (from X-Men vs SF and onwards)
  • special assist characters (from MvC1)
  • EX versions of characters
