It's for MUGEN, but it's not about MUGEN itself, so, the last recording software I used was kinda bad (forgot the name). If there is one that records in good quality with the smallest file sizes possible ('cause shitty internet)? I really feel like getting back to recording.

I use Flashback Express myself. It's free (which is more then needed on my end - I'm not a big fan of paying tons of money for recording software) and you can easily get it to work with MUGEN itself.
-
I currently use Camtasia Recorder to record the screen
-
I use OBS. Works beautifully. High quality video capture.
-
OBS Studio, is versatile and good quality. I also recommend HandBrake to reduce video files size.
-
I remember Fraps being good when I did videos a long time back, but I don't remember if it works with all video modes in 1.0 or only certain ones.
-
Dunno if it's the best, but I use oCam. Even the free version, while it may have some annoying ads particularly when you close the program, still has a quite amount of options to choose from in regards to video format, quality, etc.

Fraps used to be good, but now is paid and the free version has some annoying limitations... :/

if you are using windows 10
the best is the building in one
go to settings
Gaming => Captures =>
Recording audio 192kbps
mic and system volume to max
check record game audio only
Recorded video
check 60fps and quality to high
when in the game press win+R
if not windows 10
OBS is the second choose
but you need to tweak the settings to get a better recording and low CPU usage.
both are free
-
Bandicam for Videos/Screenshots and Honeycam for Gifs.
-
OBS Studio and Bandicam
