Rewatching the fight, I'm wondering if they had bigger plans but hit time constraints?  Shin Akuma got literally two attacks, and one was countered and made a joke of.  The ending likewise just is way too abrupt and stiff suddenly.  Hits lost that feeling of impact and the whole of everything post-SGS was off.  I get it was referencing Neatherealm's stiff animations, it was the whole shoulder tackle deal, really, but it still needed some more time in the oven.

Also Death Battle has a habit of that with mutli-stage transformations and it's a bit disappointing.  They lead and end strong, but mid-forms get such short-changed, especially against opponents who don't transform as well.  So it always comes across as weird when one guy is doing way better in their base form than their super form's first stage, and only marginally better in their final form.

Episode's out now.  Next episode is Korra versus Storm.

The animation this episode was a bit stiff.  A bit odd rebuttal to the Shun Goku Satsu too.

Next episode was discussed before, but to reiterate, still fairly certain Korra wins.  Hard for Storm to fight with no air.

One would suppose the logical way they approach Oni is Shao Khan's soul magic junk would force Akuma to lose control.  It's all implied possible in theory but not in this current storyline, your basic "what if" scenario.  How much it differs from Shin Akuma though is up to debate.

Yes, just have it every time you switch from stock matches to timed you get a clip of one of them saying "Time, huh?  Thanks for the tip".

I kinda legit forgot about Disney buying out Fox.  Was looking up a number of companies for who owns what.  That sucks in this particular case, because Adult Swim had a humongous case in Family Guy and Futurama's popularity and series survival as a whole and they would frankly make neat additions to a Smash clone like this.

More-so Futurama though because I wouldn't mind beating up Rick with Farnsworth's finglonger.

Eh, a possible direction they could go as well.  In that case the 80's rep could be Lion-O.  90's I'm not sure, was gonna jump at the Power Rangers but Hasbro I think is tied to Disney now.

I'm disappointed in myself for not thinking of that joke myself sooner.  In a Smash clone thread of all things too.

I saw an article I think from EventHubs earlier that brought to attention that Warner Bros. owns Rooster Teeth.  So speaking of clashing art styles, I can't even begin to imagine how awkward the RWBY girls would look in here, seeing they're technically viable if not really expected.  But I can almost imagine them wanting one just to check off the "token anime character" checkbox on their roster list covering each demographic.

Hm.  I gotta say, I played Brawlhalla twice, once for each update adding Steven Universe and Tomb Raider, and it still only added up to about half an hour playtime.  I can't say I even noticed if it had a guard button or not, but it wasn't that great playing a game.  So playerbase size or not, now I'm a bit more worried if that's the direction they're going in.

So this is almost disconnected from the game as we currently know it as it is, but today Adult Swim had a particularly interesting if bizarre announcement.  Shocking, them of all people, I know.  They're doing a Cartoon Network-wide horror-ish crossover series or special or something.

Basically Happy Tree Friends meet the Heartless from Kingdom Hearts.

And the coincidence of similar timing of this game's leaking and AS pulling this show out of nowhere makes me wish it actually was a more condensed fighter based just on CN properties.  You'd even get the same roster as is in the initial leaked roster photo, just minus Gandalf.  CN alone has a still ridiculous range of fighter possibilities and would be more concise on character modeling rather than the weirdness of bringing some particular live-action characters into these 3D cartoon style.  Like, the previous rumors propose Mad Max, and Max Rockatansky is great and all but pretty freaking weird standing next to Bugs Bunny.

Am I blind or is their intention that there is no block functionality?  Unless one of those extra dashes is mislabeled or they really wanna try to get traditional 2D fighting game blocking mechanics to run holding backwards on a platform fighter.

That one random dude who threw together that one video about Shaggy fighting some biker gang set to Dragon Ball Super music that kickstarted this whole meme must feel on top of the world now.

Well hey, got one of the SU guesses right.  Neat.

If there is voice acting, I wonder then how Steven Universe would turn out?  Zach Callison as I recall was growing out of the voice.  And Estelle wasn't keen on doing Garnet VO unless it's actual Sugar-related content for the show or concerts.  Good thing Sugilite wouldn't likely show, would be an even bigger hassle getting Nicki Minaj to reprise the role.

I'm jumping the gun assuming Garnet would show, but I'd go out on a limb and say it would be unusual to get Steven and not have the whole main team as well.  Maybe not the B-Team of Peridot, Lapis and Bismuth but the ones from the freaking opening and in 90% of the show would make sense.  Well, and Spinel, if they're going off of meme-related content thanks to the whole Shaggy thing.  People were obsessed with Other Friends for a time after all even outside the fandom.  Though thankfully that died down.  Coincidentally though I've been seeing it pop back up recently thanks to Takafumi Hori, but that's nothing new to the series, just neat to see Studio Trigger still getting involved.

Normally I'd dismiss such a out-there unlikely candidate because someone like Spinel showing up makes about as much sense as Warner Bros. making a game mostly because people have memetically crossed Scooby-Doo with a Dragon Ball event and it taking off like wildfire.  But oh wait.

I look forward to the mess of a roster this game ends up with, having boundaries as loose as those.

Mulling it over a bit, two things come to mind.  One, we know Shao Kahn destroyed multiple "realms" in MK's history, more-or-less equivalent to other planets that have their own dimensions.  But what exactly qualifies "destroyed"?  I haven't played any MK stories in a while, so I'm trying to remember if we've ever actually seen the guy actually blow up any planets with his own two hands and/or hammer.  Supposedly he could being juiced up on the souls of each and every individual on those planets, that's KINDA what the original game's stories are about, but even being the big End Boss until MK11 supremely neutered him, I still don't think Shao Khan is exactly planetary by the viewable feats in game?  I also can't imagine he'd, you know, WANT to.   He's Shao Khan the Konqueror, not the Destroyer.  He wants to rule these planets, being his endgoal.  Otherwise the case would be he'd be so way above not just Raiden but probably all the Elder Gods as well, if Elder God status goes to someone as low on the totem poll of gods as that Mother Earth character from MK11.  We then have the problem of MK11's new big End Boss Kronika being so far above the others as to be manipulating the whole universe to her whim, that then that MK scaling gets thrown out the window.  Especially with Liu Kang's plot armor still letting him beat Kronika in the end anyways.

Two, I haven't played SFV so I'm in the dark what new lore and whatnot has happened with Akuma, but previous incarnations I'm left to imagine the Shun Goku Satsu won't do much to Shao Kahn if Gen is anything to go off of.  If the enemy can't guard their soul and are guilty of sin then yeah, it's an instakill, but Shao Khan's whole deal is soul mastery.  If Bison could freaking do it, Shao Khan should have no issue pulling off the same.  Where that could differ is if SFV changed how it works or if Oni's ampt up Satsui no Hado junk is any different.  And those I just don't know.

Episode's out now.

Neat.  My assumption of how it would play out logically without seeing either series in any extended sense was actually what they ended up doing.

Next episode is Akuma versus Shao Khan.  That's....not Kenpachi.  Or Asura.  What gives?  Oh well I guess, that match has history with the show as well I guess.  Um, I'd guess unless they count Asura's Wrath as canon, Shao Khan takes it fairly easily, especially if they consider Shang Tsung's lesser soul steal ability a viable strategy against Akuma.  Taking Asura's Wrath into account though you got Oni drop kicking the moon without much effort and Shao never physically showed anything on that level of strength or speed.  If they count Asura' Wrath and still give Shao the win, it'd have to be on account of his more oddball abilities Akuma has no defense against.

Melty Blood's and Tsukihime's recent reboots make me realize that an Alucard/Arcueid match would have been a whole lot more sense than Dio.  But oh well, you get what you get.

Never cared about Jojo, followed Helsing up until, I dunno, the aircraft carrier with the werewolves or priests or whatever it was early on years ago, so I can't contribute much beyond hearsay.  Hearsay says Dio can't even keep up with Alucard, never mind follow his ten-step program on killing him.

If you say he has a specific number of deaths needed to kill him off for good through a loophole though, I can see Death Battle dragging out the fight by getting Dio close to however many thousands needed between all his various ways to kill during repeatedly spammed time stops.  Just a shot in the dark how they'd approach it though.

No:
-Corrin
Ok, goes to show how little I pay attention to the series that I legit forgot Corrin was even in this game.  So yeah, Corrin I'd agree is keen to go before Roy.  Dunno if I agree with Chrom just because how much Awakening is the series savior, but likewise I would not bat an eye if he's gone next game.

As someone who hasn't played Three Houses, Byleth's inclusion in Ultimate was poorly timed and I have no interest myself in them but the intended attempt at addressing the Fire Emblem character template issue characters prior had was somewhat broached with them.  It kinda misses the origin of the whole issue to begin with, that the roster already in the game needs to be cut then look for reps that actually make use of the various weapons and roles of the series, but Byleth attempts to be an all-in-one that compensates on the lack of one character per skill set and just has them use all of them at once.  Well, not all of them, I don't see Byleth's Up+B being summoning a pegasus, but close enough.  Byleth I personally will likely never touch, but is of the more logical choices to stay.

From what I understand of it Byleth's gameplay isn't lore friendly to Three Houses anyways though, so eh.  Byleth doesn't get all the weapons from the other generals/commanders/teachers/whatever they are and is instead in the game all about future vision.  If anything Byleth probably should have had some of Shulk's moves.  But it's whatever at this point.

Kool-Aid Man's silly tie-in comic line reminds me of those Hostess fruit pie ads you'd find in comics all the time years ago.  So now I kinda want something like this to be the cause of the fight/end result.

Also thanks for the flashback to early OotS.

Fire Emblem if anything would take the biggest hit of reduction and reorganizing.  And Roy's kinda top of the chopping block list.  Regardless of being "our boy" or not in Smash, without series relevancy or a diverse movepool, he offers little in the grand scheme of the series that Marth does not already cover.  His inclusion after all was for nothing greater than the ease of marketing his upcoming new game.  Similar but to lesser extent to FemMarth and Chromebook because likewise their gameplay offers little new but their relevancy is intrusively linked to the series' survival, for better or worse.

Lucas is probably fine because Mother 3 is a Nintendo legend, despite how much Nintendo themselves probably want people to shut up about it already.  Mega Man I'd assume is assured because what else is Capcom doing with him beyond nostalgia appeal?  They will still make plenty use out of Rock and Roll and X and Zero, just probably not in their own new unique games.

I'm more curious about Banjo & Kazooie.  Because while Nintendo is on good terms negotiating with Microsoft/Rare, they both seem to have zero plans or intent going forward to even do anything with the bear and bird.  I don't know why in particular, Smash's advertisement of them was prime time to at least mull the idea over.  Maybe the Perfect Dark reboot is testing the waters for Rare at how successful they'd be getting others to continue their work after the Kinect era bled their talent dry?  But without something in the works, fanbase appeal over a lengthy period of time is just going to turn into resentment over their Smash inclusion not leading to something, anything after where Nuts & Bolts left off....what is it, 13 years ago now?

Counter-point to mull over, Smash is just Kirby.  The guys who took over the Kirby series from Sakurai can feasibly likewise take over Smash from him if need be.

And sure, just like how the Kirby series has changed a bit since Sakurai left it to do Smash, I'd imagine them at the helm would also bring some unexpected changes to Smash.  Probably some sort of tag-team combo deal I'd imagine since they've made that a focus of sorts over a few titles.  Or greater emphasis on elemental damage types I guess.

If anything, I'm curious what characters they made extended deals with other companies to continue to include said characters in future titles.  Seeing from hearsay most everyone was fine with Ultimate here keeping all prior guest stars except Square.  And then whatever their renegotiated deal was with Sephiroth going forward brought in a truckload more content, as well as also tying into Sora.

Same to all those Mii costumes that certainly took their own extra degree of bartering to get at all in this game, how many of them are being lined up as full fledged characters the next time around?  Doom's resurgence in popularity since 2016 continuing to rise ever since tells me that since Doomguy cleared the biggest hurdle of getting in at all, he's a prime candidate next game.
