Re: Petition to bring Capcom Fighting All-Stars back. Seriously.

It was negatively received during beta testing... why would you want it back?

• for historical/curiosity sake;
• to bring some more appreciation to all the work that did get somewhat finished during the project;
• for the fact that there hasn't been anything that comes close it ever since. There allegedly have been 'fragments' of the concept across subsequent titles, as appointed by Byakko in another thread (Batsu in TvC, Ingrid in CFJ/SFA3, Haggar and Hiryu in MvC3/MvC:I, Nash/Alex/Poison/Akira in SF5) but... along with that being debatable, it doesn't cover up the rest of original content from this entry (the other three fighters, the weird mechanics, story, etc.);

• because it doesn't look that bad based on the few footage clips avaiable...? Really the only precise word we have is "a beta-test happened around 2003, and it gone wrong!", taken by the few sources that documented it at the time.

I'm pretty sure most of their assets are forever lost when the project was cancelled back in 2003 (which is 19 years ago).

Probably. The only way to end speculations about that is if we got a response from Capcom, though.

@GTAguy: , @DauntlessMonk7: , @Macaulyn97:

Thank you so much, folks! :c00l: Stories about a petition impacting on the entertainment industry is as much rare as stories about a company being transparent with it's public about why something didn't work as intended. But at the end, if something doesn't hurt to try, that might as well be enough reason to go for it!

do you really think this sort of online petition thing could work?

I think a lot of things. I'm just trying to see how far this kind of communication is able to reach. If enough people around the FGC happen to see it, and have a similar opinion about scenarios like this speciffic unreleased game, it stops being a silly request and becomes, at the very least, a topic worth of discussion.

If the most far it can get is a message from one of the devs at Capcom just telling that they aknowledged the attention given, I would be satisfied as well.

Look, I'm gonna sign it, but I don't think it will go anywhere. Like, lets be real, even though they could easily drop Marvel so they don't have to suffer with Disney's bullshit, they chose, for all these years, to not bother. It would be great to see an all-Capcom crossover fighting game, but Capcom themselves are too stupid to realize that.

Which is why trying to politely communicate with them might be one way to clear up the common perception about both sides. Preventing future weird situations like, Capcom publicly stating that the reason MM Legends 3 (and later on, Darkstalkers) getting cancelled was simply due to it "not having enough support from the fans"...(!?)

So, I made a petition on Change.org. For real.

The intention here is just to say to Capcom that, they don't really need to keep this episode forever locked in a shame vault... and that there are indeed people who would actually appreciate, and support a game with such concept today...!

It doesn't need to be a full game or have online or anything, just a port of what they've shown during the beta-testing phase in 2003 - at least the portion that is currently in their rights, that is.

So, would you guys legit join me on this crazy idea? This can be a fun experiment, c'mon. :P

Evidence that a build of the game possibly still exists, somewhere:

I bet my human rights that Capcom would rather fight toe and nail for another Marvel or SNK crossover than ever doing a crossover with just their own stuff, regardless of whatever license fees and whatever other stuff people argue about.

There, I said it.

Perhaps. Capcom has a big legacy of characters though, and a good tracking record stablished by their work alongside Marvel and SNK. Capcom is one of the few companies that is both iconic enough, and capable to do a crossover with almost the same impact as Nintendo, for example.

the sad thing is, people say they want a new collection or new game besides street fighter, yet the only thing that does sell is street fighter, resident evil, etc

At the same time, because most of their resources are put towards SF, RE and Monster Hunter, we kind of don't have the same amount of opportunities to be interested in a new entry of one of their other IPs...

It's a paradox.

It's depressing as hell.

Which is why this new collection is, like, our one chance to tell Capcom we want these games.

So please, for the love of god, buy the new collection.

Yeah, I guess that would be it. Capcom does have this wacky notion that, if a simple release of something doesn't sell well, then a big scale version of the same thing can never be profitable either. This logic almost makes sense but, it takes so many things out of consideration...

Talk about bummer.

There's a chance that the gameplay itself wasn't the only factor in which the playtesting didn't go well; as it was made in a time where arcade games in general were having only a fraction of their former popularity; and there probably were also the people who just weren't fond of Capcom making a abrut change to it's mainline fighting game formula, possibly disregarding the overall game content only due to it's average 3D models.

The old footage avaiable seems to indicate that this game is, at the very least, not as much broken as you guys are implying. It looks like one typical old-school 3D fighter, with 2D motions, sidesteps and camera shenanigans. Would the controls happen to be so bad that they don't even compare to early 3D fighters like Street Fighter EX or Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition? Right now, just a few amount of people can precisely answer that.

Hey, even if it looks tame compared to all the other games that came after, isn't it still a kinda unique concept that isn't really well touched upon by Capcom even to this day? And a piece of that rare event actually did get concretized, just existing somewhere in a shelf of some building...

Common saying is that the fiasco of Capcom Fighting All-Stars/Jam is the reason why Capcom never attempted to do a full-on fighting crossover of their own ever again. Maybe it would be cool, if a portion of fans somehow managed to communicate with the company, that there could be some actual profit in a project like this nowadays.

As far as to what the likely setting SF6 will take place, this is just my thoughts.

There is no SF3.

6's plot will be the NEW SF3 replacing the old timeline and instead focuses on the setting that was developing since SF4. [...]
Also it can ease up stuff like Makoto's age,

Makoto, Ibuki and the Lee brothers are gonna be teenagers once again, noooooooooooooooooooooooooo.........

Yes, they have a probably almost complete build of the game in the vaults, as shown by one of Capcom devs during the time people were comparing SFV's Luke, and Rook;

No, Capcom never seem to care enough about releasing the game in the first place - even less nowadays.

Bummer... Or some concept arts, videos and a interview for this game would be nice.

I now had a sudden thought.... If the community managed to push a petition of sorts, would Capcom be willing to attend to it and share a small portion of what was stored about this old project? If they happened to see some sudden attention and interest by the fans recently;

I mean... would people willingfully pay to see a demo-sized release of a old game, if things got real?

At least it's the definitive edition of SF2 though, which is nice to see again;

Sadly, no SlamMasters. :[

Like we don't get many SF as it is now.

My thoughts, honestly. So much to revitalize the SF series ever since SFIV, and yet so much other interesting fighting IPs either get passed through, or get cancelled for an arbitrary reason (Darkstalkers...)

I don't wanna sound like a silly fanboy anymore but, alright just once more...
SNK is right here again folks, you guys literally have everything to make a successful new CvS...! :pwn:

And btw, yeah,
if this game doesn't tell what happens after SF3, and characters like Ibuki or Yun become forever teenagers, then there's no point in making a new story at all.

Its most likely SF6. Capcom Cup is this weekends and the date matches when the event ends.

At the end of Capcom Cup, huh? So yep, it's most likely a big new fighting game. And that only means...
